Why do you think certain opinions are aggressively pushed on the internet?

There's quite a few of opinions that circulate near consistently on the internet and always garner the same responses (as if going by a pre approved script, whether based on real or imagined emotional responses from internet users).

If one is not confined to their screen they can notice in real life these discussions often play out differently and offer more diverse opinions than what the internet gives (especially in the past 10 years, with controlled google searches and suspiciously sounding A.I bots on >redditcostanzayeahrightsmirk/Youtube/4chan comment section). Of course, people who parrot the same internet-approved (as I would like to call them) views exist in real life but they're often the types to be constantly online or very familiar with internet culture, as opposed to someone who grew them "organically", so to speak.

Here are my unbiased observations of which opinions are pushed aggressively on the internet. Some astroturfed and some not.

New Age/Paganism/Spirituality/Alternate Religions
Atheism/Science Worship
Anti Christianity/Anti Abrahamic Religions
Feminism, especially of the Sexual Liberation Variants
Incel Led Misogyny, MRAs
Pornography Addiction/Sexual "Immorality" (furries, zoophiles, pedophiles, rape, ect)/certain sexual fetishes (traps/femboys, "mommy fetish", ect)
Evopsych theories/wannabe evopsych theorists supporting the previous points
LGBTQ+, chiefly Transgenderism, Transrights, and focus on (Male) Homosexuality//Identities and Pride Based on Sexuality
Nazi era / Eugenics inspired Racism
Extreme Pro Capitalism / Anti Communism
Extreme Pro Communism / Anti Capitalism
Extreme Political Views in General
(recent one) Defending Corporations
(recent one) Obsessive stanning of Pop Artists
Alt Left/SJWism
Alt Right

The most highly engaged (and very predictable) responses where it all tends to feel scripted are topics of Sex/Dating, Gender Differences, Sexuality, Religion, and Abortion Rights. For internet forums and websites, these opinions are either aggressively alt left or aggressively alt right, rarely any in betweens strangely enough. If a site seems more center or "balanced" it ends up going off the deep end relatively easily.

Another curious problem is when posters of a community get seemingly replaced overnight with posters of a completely different opinion that gets repeated word for word, constantly throughout the day, seen it happen with so many different communities (from politics, to dating sites, to video games) that hasn't really been common in any time period of the internet before 2015/2016

Either way, I would love to discuss this cause its been weighing on my mind for some time now and has me feeling really dissonant about the internet lately. Other opinions about this subject are encouraged!

i think this stems more from the fact that those who post online tend to be more extreme in their beliefs to have posted in the first place. it falls into the realm of voluntary response bias, where they only people who respond (post in this case) are those who feel strongly enough about something to post in the first place. this eventually just spirals out of control because american politics is just wack af. i think the predictability also stems from the fact that in american politics, the same talking points are used over and over, and half the populace havent had a genuine poltical though in their life, and just repeat whatever talking points are spewed at them by their beloved political figures. as for the overnight opinion change, no clue. id venture a guess that its a big snowball effect of one person posting something controversial, then all the others who agreed with them finally speak up

the internet is such a weird place in regards to poltics because everyone speaks their mind and says things theyd never say to another person face-to-face.

American politics is only chaotic because as an organism it is resisting the leftist takeover it's enduring

just like when your body catches an illness, it does crazy things, so does a government

leftism is a foreign organism to the US

It's a combination of things. First of all, we're talking about the US here. The US invented the Internet, and the vast majority of the english-speaking internet is still dominated by it. Given this, US economics is a heavy influence. The US has been on a downward spiral economically in terms of wealth inequality and workers getting a decent share of GDP gains since the 70s, and things got noticeably worse after the '08 crash. Poor economics strain everything. Marriages break up or never form. Same with friendships, small business, clubs etc. Everyone is more on edge and less likely to cut anyone slack. Polarization increases. Obviously this is going to manifest online, and it's going to manifest MORE, because people (even now) still feel more free to speak their mind on a website than face-to-face.

Second, social media has devoured the web, and social media is literally a machine for making people as "engaged" as possible so they stay and look at ads. What's the most engaging emotion? Anger. FaceBook, Twitter, etc literally make money by making people as enraged and hateful as possible. So to some degree, the "unusual" or inorganic views you've noticed being pushed are probably an organic attempt by individuals to play inside the rules of social media and get that sweet, sweet reward, whether in actual money or just e peen points.

Third, "Russian Trolls." Yes, they're a boogey man for anyone the left doesn't like, but they're also real, and not all Russian. It's become incredibly clear that the Internet is now CRAWLING with shills, and surprisingly, their motivation usually isn't to promote any given product, belief or nation state. Rather, they simply want to disrupt. They're like internet arms dealers, selling to both sides, pumping up the conflict as much as possible because they want communities destroyed and the individuals in those communities exhausted and demoralized. There is now an absolute army of cockroaches crawling over every inch of the internet night and day, whose only desire is to make it miserable for everyone else.

Fourth, "Silicon Valley"/Technocracy. What are the big tech companies up to? Whose side are they really on? Yes, they're making people miserable for profit, but it goes beyond that. They genuinely have aspirations of population control and manipulation on par with the USSR or China, and every users is a new guinea pig, fodder for a new a/b test they'll never know about. Will they finally be broken up, or will their meddlings just get more and more perverse as time goes on.

In short, it's not one disease, but several attacking simultaneously. All of them feed of each other, and off the artificial positions OP mentioned. The net is no longer just a place for sharing useful information. It's a battlefield for the minds of whole populations.

About 95% or more of all content seen on the World Wide Web is created by just 1% of users. Most of the internet's population just consumes what they are given. It is an essential tool for manipulating the mindsets of entire societies.

A lot of people never wake up to realize how much of an "ant" they are.
Makes me wonder just how rare this "human conscious" is. Supposedly all humans have it, but I'm not so sure. I'm almost convinced a lot of people are just running on autopilot. Maybe its the lack of reading a good book... one that isn't comically narrowing down issues of "good" and "evil" into minimalistic black and white.

You have the philosophy of "subreddits", small communities that breed hiveminds so they become like clones.
You have fools in the Artificial Intelligence regiment, creating algorithms specifically designed to make people see what they want to see, even if it is total lies or half-truths.
Its disastrous.

I've recently been messing around with Myers-Briggs tests and I think most people who believe in this "NPC phenomenon" are deeply Intuitive (N) thinkers that notice "bad"/"average" Sensing (S) personality types.

Sensing
"Sensors pay attention to both immediate data from their five senses and from their own direct experiences. They are create meaning from conscious thought, rather than trusting their subconscious, limiting their attention to facts and solid data. As necessary, they will happily dig into the fine detail of the situation.
They focus on what is immediate, practical and real, and live life as it is rather than trying to change the world.
They like logic and tend to pursue things in a clear sequence. At work, they will have a clear schedule and like to use their proven skills in tactical situations.
They may be seen as frivolous or short-sighted by Intuitors."

Intuiting
"Intuitors process data more deeply than sensors and are happy to trust their subconscious and 'sixth sense', gut feel, intuition or whatever you want to call it.
They are good at spotting patterns and taking a high-level view, as opposed to digging into the detail.
They like ideas and inspiration and tend to have a focus on the future, where they will plan to change the world rather than continue to live in the imperfect present.
At work, they like to acquire new skills and working at the strategic level.
They may be seen as impractical, theoretical and lacking determination by Sensors."

Results
  • Intuitors see Sensors as not thinking for themselves (not listening to subconscious/thought)
  • Intuitors see Sensors as only focusing on what is in front of them or presented to them (seeing things as-is, not questioning)
  • Sensors like "clear sequences" and "schedules". something an Intuitor would see as "NPC behavior"
  • Literally in the description: "They may be seen as frivolous or short-sighted by Intuitors."

There are two explanations and I will give you the long version and then the short.

Long story:
Since the intelligence agencies in this country have actively turned the news media against it's citizens, dissemination of information is done by the very vocal minority and amplified through social media which, happen to also work hand-in-hand with the three letter intelligentsia. This narrative is carefully curated for the average normie across all social media platforms. The destruction of someone's world view based on an opposing opinion that goes against the policies put in place by these tech companies. You are trapped in a box of non-pejorative news.

for the TL;DR plebbitors that have begun to lurk this forum:
bad people push bad things in order to create a passive society no matter the cost to their legitimacy or trust factor.

Simple, Identity politics and the fact that the US, along with the a good number of countries both within and outside the west are currently facing an lonely epidemic prior to the CCP virus. The need to belong in us no matter how many people think we're better off alone is hardwired into our psyche. It's part of Human Nature. However since the 60s and onwards we had saw a decline in meditating institution or more commonly known as "Civil Society" only by the 2000s and early to mid 2010s did the results of these beliefs that you've listed had finally come into fruition and is now common place within the internet itself.

When people no longer find meaning in mediating institutions their brain will unravel to a more primal state and they'll end up within a tribal institution which can mean either as; radicalization, or tribalism itself. Morally speaking, within a tribal institute; everything must be done for the tribe and everyone else the tribe is considered as evil.

Sometime ago I was going to make a thread similar to this answer but more detailed and it would be based on a person's video series who had since private the series but was achieved prior (thankfully). I plan on making a thread that will show case the video series while bringing my own thoughts to the table itself but as of now, my answer to this should hopefully help you understand that this is problem far larger than it is now.

During the time I used dating apps, I can confirm that atheism is truly a popular phrase now among women pretty much almost all women on these apps state themselves as atheists. One night when I went over to a girl she laughed at my cross necklance when I took off my t-shirt. I have to confess I was an atheist myself back in high school. But now I'm a man of faith. This new age shit scares me, people losing faith and the absence of basic empathic feelings are a huge problem.

That's the price of the faustian deal of modernity.

Why would you even try meeting such women though? I'm sure that dating apps are the worst place to find dateable girls for people like you. If you're a player and want to fornicate a lot with women with a ridiculously high body count then it's a good choice to use dating apps but otherwise don't. It's better to try to meet people irl through friend circles navigating social networks (meet the friends of your friends and the friends of those friends too and further, eventually you'll find a nice girl who feels lonely and wants to be with you).

The thing is. I don't have friends. This is a kinda recent stuff. I deleted all social media, cut off any interaction with people I used to call friends. They fell for a gossip which everyone believed and I knew that it's pointless to try and turn it around. I used dating apps for bodycount with low success (I look pretty decent but my texting game is lame af) I pick up girls better in real life. But I'm not that interested for a while.

People are failing to self-actualize and the holes in the fabric of society that used to be filled by God and community are being filled with the worship of the Self.

People would rather escape the flaws of the world than confront them and try to address it as a team because that requires putting others before yourself, and in a world where people are taught to prioritize themselves this doesn't work.

Easier to create swappable labels and put on make-up instead of reflecting on why you feel bad about yourself and working towards fixing those deep, emotional flaws. Transgenderism is like moving to another town -- doing it to run away from your problems only makes your problems worse.

There's a huge monetary incentive to keep eyes on social media as frequently and as long as possible, and things that make people mad work a lot better than things that make people happy. The big players in the industry engage in extensive psychological testing to see how tweaking the algorithms that display news stories affects people emotionally, and they boost topics that get people as heated as possible without causing them to actually leave the site.

Once people are drawn to a highly controversial topic, comments sections are amazingly good at keeping them there, the angrier the better. They build psychological profiles of users based on their behavior and they know which types are likely to argue with one another and which topics draw users of both types. Even if you know about it, no one is immune to it the same way no one is immune to advertising.

Once I quit social media I started feeling a lot more like myself. It still happens to a lesser degree even in small communities like this, but there's some consolation in knowing it's mostly coincidence or my own fault instead of something deliberately engineered

E: As someone said earlier in the thread, there's much deeper manipulation that goes on outside of this but I think this is the culprit for most of the fighting on those websites

Interesting observation. I lowkey wondered the same thing recently. I guess because these are topics people just wont never naturally agree on. But what would a world be if everyone think and acts the same. boring.

I don't want to say it's all about money, but it really does seem like it. Each of these is a viable marketing category.
there's also the fact that people get intellectually curious, and find these ideas stimulating and then spam them. Engels in his essay criticising anarchists basically argued that you can't use language to create reality, and i think the criticism would apply here as well. people think that they can influence the world moreso than they actually can, and the illusion is perpetuated by the seeming infinity of cyberspace.
but idk i'm pretty burnt out atm so don't have the juice to write a full thesis or whatever.
