Yeah, that's right, I took l@in is here thread and took it into the 2000s! Movies, OVA's and anime series all are welcome to discuss, and yes maybe some early 2010s animes too but please be reasonable.

Going to share one of my favourite anime intros to start off:

I just binged a rewatch of Eureka Seven and am trying to decide if I subject myself to Astral Ocean after. Vote no by disgust reacting, vote yes by wow reacting.

OH shit, you should 100% watch Eureka Seven, one of the best anime of the mid-2000s. AO is the sequel that came out 7-8 years after and is dog shit. Even though the creative team behind it hates the comparison, I would describe it as a happy and love-pilled Evangelion.

Bro, what was the deeper meaning behind this one? Felt like an acid trip but was very good.
To put it simple: Escapism bad, facing inner demons good. (obviously is more than that, but the message was basically that, you should face your guilt and traumas, and accept it as what they are, part of you, do not make excuse and love yourself for what you are)

I loved perfect blue, but i need to watch paprika, it seems surreal tho.

I'm surprised bobobo is semi-obscure. The whole thing feels like a huge shitpost which would be praised today.

Bobobo is a God-tier anime. While you had so many animes in the 2000s trying to be ultra serious and edgy, you had shows like Bobobo being all like "haha funny muscle man fights hair stealers with nose hairs" :gigachad:. Also Bobobo has a brilliant dub too, you can tell the voice actors had good fun dubbing the anime and that they had a lot of creative liberty due to Bobobo's batshit insane "plot"

Anyone else remember Welcome to the NHK? One of the first animes I can recall that properly delved into the mental health crisis that was becoming (and still is) prevalent throughout Japan. It covered it all; from suicide, depression, social isolation, to even the roping in of desperate people into pyramid schemes. I originally watched it back when I was 14 but the anime has really stuck to me over the years and how it to braved touchy subject matter.

Welcome to the NHK is probably the only show that could make an attempted suicide funny but at the same time deal with it seriously. (Spoilers for those who haven't watched it, also I actually prefer the dub for this one):

Also, I know they're kind of out of fashion now. But the Welcome to the NHK abridged series (that's now over 10 years old) is genuinely funny and worth watching. It holds up remarkably well considering how dated most abridged series feel when looking back on them.

Dude, I remember when everyone and their mother were making an abridged series, all desperate to become the next TeamFourStar. Most were horrendous and were filled with lol random XD jokes but a few rare ones had heart. Really were a product of their time, not something you see anymore, mostly thanks to Youtube's more stringent copyright laws.
