Usually when i hear the word mobile games, ripoffs of trends like squid game, games with licenced characters using cookie cutter gameplay like endless runners, match 3, cringy ads and games with stolen concepts from several indies that put more effort come to mind. I opened this topic to discuss good mobile games and i have some recommendations. I prefer good games that use good gameplay mechanics suited for mobile platform and touch screen, good retro game ports
* Kingdom new lands and two crowns, for the simple gameplay and good pixel art.
* Rusty lake game series, for the intriguing story and the unique twist on point and click genre
* Nitrome, for their smart gameplay mechanics
* Runescape
* Simogo games known for Opus game seires(Emotional stories)

The only games I have installed are Retrobowl and Wordscapes. They're "normie" games but I find them really fun.

Buriedbornes is a hard-ass dungeon crawler with extremely customizable setups. Only issues it suffers from are that runs can be ended by one single overleveled boss and premium currency is nearly impossible to come by.

One that I'd recommend never playing is Summoners War, 7 years dumped into that game all for nothing.

Summoners War is a gacha game, so naturally it suffers from a shit ton of downfalls. Its RNG rates are ridiculous, you'll pull a 5* monster once every blue moon (and a rare Light and Dark Nat 5* even less than that, in my 7 years of near-constant play I've never gotten one). The playerbase is toxic and there are fights in chat all the time. The PvE is unrewarding, tedious, and repetitive. The PvP is full of tryhards who spend hundreds if not thousands on the game. Lastly, it's riddled with terrible optimization for most phones and crashes frequently even on the latest mobile devices, and using an emulator can get your account banned pretty easily.

I legit enjoy playing Princess Connect Re:Dive. My wife plays a lot of gacha games cause her autism makes her really into grinding (long time MMO player), but I fucking hate that shit. Spending hours ballsacking my screen just to get a pickaxe or a picture of a waifu makes me want to kill myself.

I downloaded PriConne on a whime when it dropped in the US, but never played it. Then my wife picked it up a few months later, so I actually started to try it out. I think the game balances streamlined gacha grind stuff with tactical teambuilding enough to keep the flow feeling steady, but a continual challenge. Grinding is easy, too, as they have an auto-grind feature that'll allow what would normally take hours of grinding in a few minutes. To unlock the auto-grind for a level, though, you have to get a 3 star on the mission (basically beat it without any of your girls dying), so you stay immersed to a point and don't forget you're actually playing a game.

Now gacha elements are terrible and a hard sell to people. I hate games just because they have gacha elements. I don't even like going to Casinos, unless I'm about to play some poker. I've never really felt pressured by the gacha elements though. I'm a free-to-play player and doing really well in terms of content and capability. Just by doing the normal gameplay I get plenty of jewels (in-game currency) to do tons of pulls on all the important banners. I almost have every single character currently available just by doing all the normal free-to-play content. And that's another thing, all the content is free-to-play. Even the #1 player in my PvP bracket is a free-to-player. He's literally the top PvP player in my bracket and he's never spent a cent on the game, just time and strategizing.

So anyways, game's pretty fun, especially if you like cute anime girls doing cool fighting.

Wolvesville is a game I've been playing off and on for years now. It's similar to the Mafia card game or Town of Salem

The only mobile game that wasnt a endless runner or a highscore type game that i enjoyed is DATA WING. Really cool racing game with an immersive story and cool binary mini games. The soundtrack is mostly vaporwave music so it fits this board too. Its about 1-2 hours i played it many times back in 2018. I would strongly recomend to anyone really.

I play quite a bit of mobile games when taking a shit at work and I've come across some gems as well as some utter trash. Currently playing a lot of Hill Climb Racing 2 and I don't see myself slowing down any time soon. KartRider: Drift is a mario kart style game and has a lot of soul to it. For some reason it didn't grab my interest fully but it's a good game nonetheless. The F1 Mobile Racing game is actually really high quality and feels like the closest thing to an actual driving simulator possible on mobile. Soul Knight is a really fun to play dungeon crawler. If you're into idle games then ExoMiner is pretty good. It has a good balance of resources that feed into other resources for crafting things as well as some pretty cool optimization of mines. It got boring to me after a while though. Green the Planet is a game that I wouldn't recommend but it has one of the weirdest effects on people. Pretty much anyone who's played the game will acknowledge that it's not a fleshed out game by any means but it has the tendency of putting you in a complete zen state. Very relaxing game but very repetitive. Tickles the right spot of monkey brain I guess. And now for my final entry I have one that you should never ever play. It's a shit game that is completely a shitty ad based cash grab with zero artistic effort put into it at all. The game is called Crowd Evolution and I only got it bc I had to see if the non-shill reviews on the app store were true. The game redefines what it means to have ads in a game. Want to start the level? Ad. Finish playing the level? Ad. You want to apply an upgrade that you got during the level? Ad. Literally every action in the game comes with an ad. Hilariously from the reviews it seems like even buying the no ad option will break the game entirely bc an ad is needed to upgrade things but now the game can't load an ad. And I haven't even gotten into just how basic and sanitized the gameplay is. It's a shit ad simulator game and you should only ever try it out if you want to see for yourself just how bad mobile games can get

I've come across a few of these now it's insane. I get there is some 'cost' of the game being free but it's becoming ridiculous.

I've always suggested games made by Kairosoft whenever asked about phone games.
Of theirs I've played Game Dev Story, Dungeon Village 1 + 2, Pocket Academy, Station Manager, Home Run High, Beastie Bay and Grand Prix Story. Game Dev Story being my fav of that lot. They're all essentially management sims, and very engaging.

Originally Kairosoft released Game Dev Story back in '97 for the PC, so it has been ported technically. Not sure about any of the other games, and to be honest I'm not quite sure how different the original PC release of Game Dev Story is to the version currently available on phones. Would highly recommend any of the ones I mentioned if you like management sim games, pick a setting that appeals most to you.
