If there is a widespread famine in the western world, will people post themselves dying of starvation on social media for clout?

It's time to ask ourselves the real questions. Like, will they tweet, post tiktoks, and all? Or will survival instinct take over?

On an individual level it will just be ebegging times a thousand. You'll have e-influencers getting busted for laundering the money too.
We'll get those "struggle porn" type articles like "90 year old retiree selflessly picks up second job to support her daughter and 3 children through famine" to try and reassure the plebs that all they have to do is pick themselves up and work their way out of the mess that by no means contributed to.

Yes, they already try to squeeze out as much content from their lives as possible. Its clear they'd livestream their starvation.

However, if the situation is a dire as a famine, I doubt that they'd be able to post at all.

People are too crazy in the western world for this to happen. Within a week all the telephone lines would be destroyed and there would be complete chaos and pandemonium in most, if not all major cities. The military would have everything shut down within the first week to prevent people from forming en masse to take over government buildings and such. Stores would be getting looted and broken into, people getting robbed, the works. You might get a few live streamers using up the last of the internet that's available but most people would be more concerned with not being killed given the fact that a large percentage of the U.S is packing.

I'd say this might end up being the most likely outcome if a famine happens. If food prices rise to an unaffordable level people are gonna be rioting in the streets and shit. It has happened many times in the past (particularly in China) and it will happen again. There would also be a massive refugee crisis and chaos would spill out to neighbors, if they're not in a crisis already.

You just described how every crisis has been handled in history, just replace e-influencers with priests, and struggle porn articles with we will survive and we will live crap from town meetings and church.

i am pessimist-good
like, more likely, as youve seen in corona - people self-developed (lot of free time and boredom), helped others (volunteering, sewing masks for others, cheering up to docs, being...)
like, sometimes you need slap or reasurance to measure "good" with/against.

as i say, "the biggest tragedy is to not be allowed to fail" ;)
