The United States has a belief in freedom of speech, represented quite eloquently by Evelyn Beatrice Hall "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Considering that in the modern day, a group of fascists call themselves anti fascist, I am very suspect of everyone's views on such a subject. In my opinion, the lefts intolerance and increasing rigidity will only breed a farther right mentality amongst it's victims, just as the rights did back in the 60's with the hippies, and in the 80's with the punks, and the grunge kids in the 90's. Those who are so easily disregarded for arbitrary reasons will always become the new counter culture. The pendulum swings, the more one side pulls the harder it swings in reverse. Two sides fighting for control over human nature will only cause needless suffering throughout a futile effort. I am merely an observer and I believe balance is Humanity's best chance for prosperity.

Speaking as someone rather far on the left, fashwave seems to be little more than just an obscure curiosity (similar to it's left-wing counterpart, labourwave, which is even more based on mere aesthetics instead of music) and hardly relevant aside from that. There are no fashwave artists out there who have produced anything of relevance outside of their own little clique, and I'm not sure what to say about that.

While I'm not against political art in itself, these politically motivated microgenres rarely give birth to anything worthwhile, and the way I see it, their only purpose is to uphold this group identity in those already in the circle. Of course, exceptions do exist, some larger genres like anarcho-punk and national socialist black metal do include some bands that have managed to gain some visibility outside of their respective communities. But as a general rule, artists who identify themselves with these political microgenres produce their music as simply another representation of their political identity among others.

Fascists do not call themselves anti fascist

there is nothing remotely fascist about antifa

they oppose capitalism, religion, nationalism and civil liberties and subscribe to racialism

not fascist

I've met enough people who support antifa that also believe race comes before the individual, who believe in severe social and economic regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. So I guess the definition doesn't QUITE match, I suppose they are more a kin to run of the mill terrorists. All I know is when you get right down to it, they are doing the same thing the brown shirts did back in nazi germany, intentions mean little to those caught in the middle of it.

I don't like labels personally, I find them rather restrictive. I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to hinder their versatility of thought to any extent. I suppose if a bunch of people can do your thinking for you, it takes that much more of a burden off of yourself, but it hardly seems like a desirable prospect to me. Any stripping of individuality will only benefit those who oppress or who's intent is to oppress, that includes antifa and black lives matter. It appears to me that many people operate under a black and white mentality, which I find rather discouraging when considering so many answers lay in the gray. It's like people are living with an 11:00 am mindset when it is well after noon.

the nazis weren't fascist either, people only think so because they've been reading history books written by soviets and the Chinese since the 60s

of course intent matters especially when it comes to political violence. brownshirts, bad. union soldiers in the US civil war, good. different intent and ideology, same methods.

Abe Lincoln and Napolean were far more violent, you wouldn't compare them to antifa, would you?

My two cents, semantic discussions like this why fascism isn't a good choice of words in contemporary political discourse. There are differing views on authoritarianism, usage of violence as a tool etc., but then again, they are just two of the axes of many we need to consider when identifying ideological tendencies. And one way you can tell that a word has suffered enough inflation to become basically meaningless is how to completely opposite sides of the spectrum use that word to discredit each other. For sure, there are some contemporary movements that adhere to fascism and can be accurately described as such, but this misuse of the term isn't a service to anyone.

This isn't to say that I'd symphatize with any currents on the far-right (or the right in general, but that's somewhat irrelevant here) but to say that everything bad = fascism isn't just poor analysis but even harmful in the long run. I oppose run-of-the-mill conservatism, but to call that fascism isn't useful at all. And one can oppose antifa, but as Memoryhead did excellent job at pointing out, it's not fascism.
