Have you ever tried to find a random clip, whether it be a commercial, episode, etc. that you remember from the past but can't find it anywhere? Chances are you're dealing with lost media.

Lost Media (n):
Media that has previously existed but no longer does or is lost or not viewable to the public.

To see if some vague memory you saw late at night was a dream or in fact reality, I highly recommend checking out the Lost Media Wiki, the hub of both found and lost media.

I'll start with some I remember.

  • During Cartoon Network's "Yes!" era in the mid-2000s, there were a ton of bumpers that are no longer available. The one I remember specifically was Grandpa Max from Ben 10 standing against a white background singing the Muffin Man song.
  • I remember for about a week straight in around 2006/2007, Cartoon Network would show a commercial for softcore porn. I have no idea why it showed (probably Turning fucking up what channel specific ads were supposed to play) or how they got away with showing it multiple times, but I can't find any record of it happening online. But I remember specifically talking about it with kids at school that week.
  • Most of Out of Jimmy's Head. While each episode has been found, a lot of the original English episodes are still missing. This show was awful but I specifically remember the episode "Ambush" really well. It's there, but not in English, and that version is lost.
What about you? Any lost media stories?

I remember seeing those ads of software porn. But maybe you were confused with adult swim because they would come on after.

But I got a lost media I've been wanting to see again for a long time is "Dan nainan tesla world 2015" it was a comedy thing he did and it was 30 minutes of pure, concentrated cringe. Literally 30 FUCKING minutes he was up there telling jokes and nobody laughed. It was amazing. The current video is private on YouTube and you can't find the vid anywhere else

Not quite on the same level as other media, on account of it being extensively documented and all that, but I'll forever be saddened that I'll never be able to play Cartoon Network's FusionFall in its original state ever again.

There was a fan-made remake called FusionFall Legacy that was in development for about 5 years before the team got hit with a DMCA request from Cartoon Network. Shit sucks :PepeHands:

Sure, it might not have been the best MMO, but it was my first and goddamnit I have a lot of great memories of staying up late to level up and tackle bosses.

I may or may not still have a thing for Marie Kanker in this game. :gollyBLUSH:

Maybe. I do remember it happening later in the day, at least, so that's possible.

Fuck, I remember seeing ads for that all the time but I never had a chance to play it.

The Softcore porn, was it the Girls Gone Wild commercials? I remember seeing those on Cartoon Network in the middle of the every once in a while while watching Space Ghost, I'd hear the music and go "oooooh yeah!"

I don't think so; I remember seeing those on Comedy Central. The ones I remember had a narrative, I'm pretty sure.

あなたはそれがコメディセントラルにあったと言います。あなたがトレイパーカーの淫行の挑戦を見たショーは壮観でしたか?ずっと前にそれを見たのを覚えています、それは挑発的で心のこもったもので、私の心に燃えました

Interesting, I'm not finding any results for this on Google. Does it go by another name?

I remember seeing a very obscure youtube video when I was either 7-8 or maybe 9 ...I can't really tell. I remember the title was either in arabic or japanese, anyways. First a bit of backstory. I was watching 'mortal kombat 1/2 endurance tests' , you know, that part when a fighter would break that wooden block(damn missed the word in english xD). Anyways. And I would just scroll on 'recommended videos'. And I saw a video with a bloodied hand. I was like 'what ? haha ! is this another movie/game ? ' And when I clicked on it, it was a 'literally endurance test' with a man with lots of nails in his hand. The video was filmed from the top view and in the background it was a white desk(it wasn't filmed in some god knows what kind of no man's land). The video depicted a man getting nails and needles from his hand while holding his fist tight trying not to scream or something. His hand was so f*ked up....and it looked bloody as hell...I watched only a few seconds then I closed the tab. Now, there may be some concern as of the authenticity of the video (for example, it could have been some kind of prop or something)...but the image of that man extracting nails/needles from his own hand to just test his endurance still lies with me to this day...wow..

That sounds insane.

This reminds me of rotten.com from the 90s. It wasn't long after we all got internet access that we all discovered the dark side of the internet.

Well... I will only list a few because my list is astronomical.

From TV:
  • I remember a commercial for a joke [music] album from Mexico that was being advertised as a Ring-Back tone feature for some popular cellphone service company. The songs were made of corny, mid-00s stock rock and a singer repeating one word as per the title of the song; among the songs in the album you had names like "No" "Sí" "Ven" & "Qué?". I saw this ad maybe 3 times ever and never again. Nobody I have talked to remembers this shit.

From music:
  • I came across a club "mixtape" CD within my Grandma's music collection [The kind that a JVC HiFi from the 90s would require], I do not remember the name of it or what the song titles and artists were... But I remember track 4 and 10. If I got to find some sort of disc scan catalog I might be able to track it down.
  • The first time I heard "It's My Life" I had heard it sung by a woman [somewhat sounding like Cindy] instead of the lead from Talk Talk. Nobody remembers this.

From the Internet:
  • The original music video to the "This is Sparta" Halo song no longer exists.
  • A YTP going by the title "Irritante Wezens gan Doods" [somewhat, not sure what language that is] somehow made it to my recommendations in 2010. The YTP in question is just destroying Schnappi The Crocodile in any childishly violent way possible; No longer exists.
  • vSide
  • The original broadcast for Sonic dancing to reggaetón in Entre Nosotras does not exist anymore.

Ive been looking for two things for a while.

I remember this one comedic video from youtube about fire safety. It starts with this kid that looked to be in his teens talking to someone on his phone. he hangs up and starts giving an intro to the audience about how fire can ruin your life. then there's a transition to a next scene where the same kid is talking to another slightly younger kid. The older kid says he feels bad as the younger kid asks what it might be. this goes on for some time until the younger kid says, "well do you want to go outside?" and the older kid replies "I think I know whats wrong". The shot zooms out to show the older kid's shirt is on fire while they both yell at the top of their lungs. The shot transitions back to the older kid in his room saying "thats how fire can ruin your life" or something along those lines. Something else about this video is at the end there was a jumpscare for no reason that scared the shit out of me. This video looked like your run of the mill amateur early 2000s youtube video complete with bad audio quality. this was probably around 2008-2010 and it probably wasn't that popular.

I swear I saw something like this but whenever I bring it up no one has heard of it. This had to have been around 2006-2007. I remember seeing this weird ass web comic with bright colors and the art was really impressive and colorful, especially for the medium at the time. The style changed throughout the comic frequently as some parts were more realistic and some were more bizarre, but throughout the whole thing it was loosely based around a colorful and surreal style. I don't remember the story too well, but I remember it being pretty dark with a heavy focus on drugs and kidnapping (I didn't pay much attention to the story, it was mostly about the art for me) I really want to find this again, some of the art on this thing I remember being unbelievable and I want to know more about the story. I've been looking for a long time but I haven't come up with anything remarkable, I believe it might have been a collaborative effort due to the changing styles, but I have no idea where to start looking.

Does any of this ring a bell?

I remember a specific episode of G4's Hurl game show that is now lost to time. It was the episode where the contestants got on carnival rides after enduring an eating challenge. Pretty funny to 10-year old me. Come to think of it, there's a lot of stuff from G4 that just wasn't archived or rereleased in any way.

a brain is an analogue device, why not give your brain what it craves with a new hitachi digi-1000 sound system? memories are stored on a substrate which is a biochemical soup, it's a wonder we can remember anything at all. besides deja vu, you have jamais vu, presque vu, deja reve, deja entendu and deja vecu. people used to know these things.
