I've never understood why so much of the internet seems to have this seething hatred for nihilists and come up with all these elaborate psychoanalysis of them as secretly depressed, addicted to something (usually porn or consumption) or otherwise "broken". Doesn't nihilism just mean you don't believe that there is a meaning/point to life? Maybe I'm wrong here about what nihilists believe, but how does believing something has no inherent meaning mean that you hate it, think it is awful or are depressed? Isn't a neutral statement about a lack of a pre-defined meaning to life? Aren't any of those "I make my own meaning" types also nihilists because they acknowledge any meaning is one they invent rather than being inherent?
The more I see it, the more I wonder if people are just salty they weren't able to prove meaning to some nihilist or they met one insufferable nihilist and blamed the entire philosophy for them being an ass.
