was labor alienated back in the day when people had to hunt and gather and shit for survival? I mean, you might not have had a boss who exploited your labor, so maybe it wasn't 'alienated' in that way, but you still had to work to survive,( just as a basic fact, not any sort of abstraction about having to contribute to society or else--you would literally just die) so it wasn't exactly 'free' labor that you did entirely of your own volition, it was a means to an end instead.
