I've watched some YouTube videos showing off AI filters for videogames, and also some content on current state of AI video generation. Sometimes the results were funny, sometimes they felt uncomfortable, but overall it's inconsistent and pretty ugly.
And yet, comments are full of praise of how good it looks and how much people want to "create" "their" "art" using it, thinking it's on par to real movies they enjoy. Or how they are excited for Rockstar to use this tech in GTA VI.
I mean, do regular joes even have aesthethic sense? I was thinking about it a lot and didn't really want to talk about it as it would feel like I'm on a high horse. But it just gets depressing.
How could anyone look at this and say: "What PS2 games looked like to four-year-old me." or other things along those lines.
I don't really mind that some people enjoy AI for what it is. I can't change it, and if not for the fact that it depends on stealing copyrighted work and other unethical practices (fuck, what even happened to that
whistleblower?), I would be far less critical of it.
But you know what is awful? Knowing that a lot of people think that real art is on par with AI slop and sometimes even better than it. This mindset may be out of spite towards artists or leftists overall, but also seeing popular comments like someone waiting for a time when someone makes a fully personalized service that "creates" movies, music and other media based on his prompts, because then he would not need to risk himself to be exposed to any opposite worldviews.
im just tired, boss
and im scared how much it will impact society once it becomes really mainstream and casual
