I didn't realize you guys were on Agora, I've been listening to some of the old podcast eps since you guys followed me a week back on Neocities.

In regards to EP15; There really was something special in the air around 2016, there was this sense that reality was crumbling around you because you saw all this online stuff seeping into the real world. That barrier/distinction was being torn down. MDE World Peace getting aired on Adult Swim right before the election was a big part of that feeling for me. And now it's almost like that barrier not even there anymore, the stuff we were all reading on 4chan almost 10 years ago has gone from the fringe to the public lexicon.
Added to that was this mass public awakening that the legacy media and many instiutions are liars for the establishment, albeit many were misguided in thinking of it only along political party lines.

Been thinking about this alot. It's so strange remembering how the web and the world used to feel like two completely separate places. I only started becoming active online towards the end of the separation 2012-2016.

But looking back to not so long ago, I remember logging in feeling like entering an esoteric world akin to the wizarding world in Harry Potter. It felt like this untapped frontier misunderstood and unappreciated by the broader public and I used to dream of the day when Gamers, YouTubers, Streamers would have clout like celebrities akin to what I watched in Sword Art Online. And somehow it happened without me realizing it.

I was scrolling through my YouTube recommended the other day seeing Adin Ross streaming with Donald Trump, another one with Candance Owens and it doesn't phase me anymore. These are high profile figures. But now they fiend to show up on these streams now because it gives them exposure to the youth. Such a stark contrast to even only 6 years ago when everyone at school was freaking out about seeing Ninja play Fortnite with Drake. I remember before that year no one at school knew what a streamer was. Everyone thought it was so crazy that I built my own PC. People laughed at the idea of e-sports.

The idea that all these things were strange somehow feels strange because they are so normal now. But that's what slow progression is. It's like filling a pool with water using a hose. You don't notice the water level changing until you come back a few hours later.

Unrelated but I also remember as kid thinking how weird it was that I spent 4+ hours a day online. But in today's world, those are rookie numbers for most people. The internet used to feel like an escape from the real world. But now they are one in the same and I can't seem to escape the internet even in the real world.

It's been so jarring. Hearing college kids say "based" in response to something they like or think is cool out loud in public, elderly conservatives at the store refer to "blackpilled doomers", and my normie little step-bro say that he's "looksmaxxing" over the past 4 years alone nearly gave me whiplash, and that's just the lingo. Hearing some dude yell out "Pepe!" at a Hillary Clinton rally, among other such incidents, was one thing because clearly everyone but those in the know were confused, but it was a kind of opening of the flood gates in some ways because- while The Eye of Sauron had been shifting its gaze toward the internet and those kinds of spaces in particular for some time already due to stuff like Gamergate or even back further to stuff like Chanology and beyond probably- now everyone's eyes were on 4chan and adjacent spaces. Now, ideas and entire conceptualizations of the world that would've been considered insane or even downright verboten are just kind of everywhere now. Ideas about race, sex, gender, religion, history and government that you would've only seen on /pol/ or lesswrong or tumblr or some other such place in 2014 are now not only just common place in average people of all ages but are even being peddled by some of the most powerful, influential, and filthy rich people on planet Earth. Like it or not, but when you have people of all walks of life openly challenging longstanding liberal progressive ideas on race that after half a century practically have been considered gospel or the just as longstanding moral historicity of the second world war- that's a big deal, that's potential paradigm altering, if not shattering.

It's all that and more, such as this:
Added to that was this mass public awakening that the legacy media and many instiutions are liars for the establishment
Facilitated by the elder internet and its surviving kin that I believe why that very establishment decided these places had to go. Either nuked out of existence entirely or subverted into shells of shells of their former selves by bots and slide shills. Perhaps it's too little too late for them though in some regards. Again, one of the most watched political commentators in broadcast history is openly platforming and engaging in the questioning of modernity's creation myth to millions of viewers emboldened to do the same- and he himself is being platformed and supported by one of the richest men alive who explicitly bought that very platform to allow for such happenings. One of the current running mates for a potential president is friends or at least mutuals with countless Twitter anons and political net commentators, some of whom have been at this since the days of Gamergate, and he so clearly gets many of his ideas from them. There's a distinct possibility ideas concocted by imageboard anons in 2014 will be policy and law after 2024. For good or ill, there may be no putting this genie back in its bottle. I fear only a kind of real life Butlerian Jihad can put a stop to this digital dimensional merge.

Totally off topic from the above btw but I just wanted to say I'm really glad someone's actually engaged with our stuff in this manner. From the start I'd hoped to one day see some conversation generated by the stuff talked about on the podcast, actually got people to think about this kind of stuff and discuss their own thoughts and feelings on the topic. Really motivating and validating, both because it means we're doing something right and also because I can feel like I'm not crazy for thinking this stuff, so thanks for that! Agora really seems to be the place to find some cool peeps who /get/ it, glad we got on here.
Progress begins again on my Short Story after a bit of a lag in my flow, still on the final chapter but managed to get 500~ words this evening, so I'm content.

I've been posting it on Wattpad ( :drinkBleach:) in the meantime but I'm going to put up a properly formatted .pdf on Itch at some point as well (soon after I finish it)
A new project is coming along nicely...

Back to uh, writing or something, who knows! :IAMINIMMENSEPAIN:
Instead of focusing on my writing, I just ended up slipping farther into the Worldbuilding rabbit hole as expected again, out here rebuilding an entire alternate history from the 1st century onward. Having fun at least!

I am also working on a novella atm where a guy goes back and forth between history and today, spends some time in the Augustan era, witnesses Augustus shouting that and banging his head on the walls, etc. Teutoburg disaster plays a great role. Man's aware of what will happen but can't do anything to change it, so he's just witnessing the pain and trying to stay alive. I'll post it on Agora when done

BEST OF LUCK, if you post your story here please tag me, I'd love to see that.

And since you haven't been active before--welcome to Agora! :)

Holy shit, I am also writing a... Short? Novelette? (As part of a much larger series) similar to this, with a stranger appearing just days before the battle and tries to intervene. (The instigating point of divergence of the Alternate History) And yes I'll definitely let you know, I've been posting the chapters on Wattpad in the meantime despite my distaste of it, but I'll be posting a proper Put-together PDF on Itch or something once it's fully done!

Im thinking ao3 when i finish mine! My main character only intervenes by preventing his soldier friend from going to Teutoburg, then gets questioned because how did he know? And so forth

Best of luck again! Roman historical fiction for the win! :)
Man I am getting tired quite quickly, but it's rare that I get such a long and intense burst of motivation to work on my creative endeavours, feels like I've got to use it while I can but might be overdoing it. :Lain:

Kinda of topic but, most sectors are saturated. You can see that art in general is really alike and with much substance to it. That goes to show that people really don't know or at least do not acknowledge why they do thing (mostly trivial things like trends and fame). My take is that we need to trust and enjoy the things we make without much irritation.
