• I added an agora current events board to contain discussions of political and current events to that category. This was due to a increase support for a separate board for political talk.

  • >Great great grandparent arrived into the continent.
    >Great grandparent founded one of the first workers organisations of my country.
    >Grandparent was a communist during one of the time periods were being a commie meant getting disappeared, tortured and buried into an unmarked grave. As it happen to way too many family friends.
    >Parent was a communist during the time period where democracy seemed to be established for good

And yet, I'm way too reactionary to bear that load, but too revolutionary to fully get rid of it.

@Some_porcupine interesting really, don't have much to say. my grandparents were Islamists farmers and part of the petty bourgeoisie (their businesses and farms were later on shut down and sold, wished that we still had the farm land though).

@Rollingstart i do agree, most states who have their main goal of achieving "communism" are just statist bureaucracies trying to maintain their power and monopoly. most of these states have in fact created new hierarchies, instead if destroying hierarchies as a whole, and have preserved the previously weak bourgeoisie state that they have "overthrown". i personally think that this is because of the Leninist vanguard party which many socialist have adopted as their praxis, though i still have to do a bit of research for this conclusion. many of those 1st world communist you are talking about are just doing rituals, clinging on to the past. this is a major problem that the current Marxist and some Anarchist movements have. i hope that these problems will be resolved in the near future, but it is easier said than done really.

I don't know why I never considered the option of latin vaporwave, especially Charly, it really fits him.
On the topic of communist grandparents, I have a friend whose grandparent was not only a communist but a guerilla fighter in my country. Not only that, he got connections with the then Soviet Union so now my friend has some medals, those Russian hats but forreal, a Soviet whiskey bottle that looks like a skull, some disarmed grenades, miniatures of bombers and helicopters and a bunch more stuff.
If you ask me, definitely worth it.

@hhh yeah I would say that's pretty accurate. The marxist-leninist model works pretty well pragmatically, because they consolidate power and wield it with an iron fist so you can preserve the "dictatorship of the proletariat" (lol) without it quickly falling apart from lack of centralization and chaos/disorganization, but it just leads to another oppressive state system. Then they realize that the command economy that Marx envisioned doesn't work, and they need to go back to allowing markets and private business (like China and Vietnam) and the whole thing becomes kind of absurd, like you have a meeting about Marxist-Leninst praxis at Starbucks (something I actually saw when I lived in Vietnam). The main problem I think is just a much more obvious one: people love money and being rich, and communism will never satisfy that desire because the only way to make it work for now is making everyone equally poor, not equally wealthy.
Been listening to this album lately. The tracks are on point, they really do take me back to the Wii days. It has the right amount of stimulus while also being calm to be used as background music while coding.

Bought this album on Bandcamp after it first came out; I love it. I definitely am with you on the balance of stimulation and calmness, a lot of albums are too busy for me to easily focus on something, like coding, while listening. The artist really nailed the "console main menu" vibes they were aiming for.

Just watched some videos on the Buenos Aires metro.
Bit weird how the changing needs of the city's planning made it so some stations and tunnels are no longer used but still there, just closed off or walled. Kind of creepy to think about tunnels and stations just sitting there in complete darkness lol
Rate my latest map game autism.
Switzerland in 1907, WWI just arround the corner probably but I don't think I'll play through it.Greater Switzerland.png

yeah, once you play through enough nations it can become repetitive. My harshest was forming Indonesia as Bali. The early game wasn't fun at all, it just involved a lot of save scumming, and to be honest, once you form it it's just like playing Japan...
The other playthrough I suffered lots through was Shewa(I think?) into Ethiopia. That one was much better but just boring. I managed to conquer Egypt and the horn of Africa, can't remember how I conquered Egypt though. The borders looked nice, and it had a more interesting geographic location since I never play in Africa. Probably should do a Boer run at some point.
Most of my games just involve looking at a location on the map and thinking, huh it would be nice if a country existed in that region and was powerful. Hence mega Switzerland covering all of the Alps.
Another nice run was long Paraguay, owning the Argentine Mesopotamia, with the Paraguayan Congo Free State lol
I'm not big into blobbing, I prefer making maps with nice looking borders, and sometimes small countries look better than larger ones, so I get bored by giant Germany maps.
But my go to when I just want a chill game is Italy. It's nice and comfy and the Italian peninsula is practically a fortress, if you invest into navy you are impossible to invade. What nation is your "main"?

Yeah I was gonna say, I only played that Mongolia game because I really like the Mongol Empire. It was not fun at all, I didn't even bother finishing it I don't think. Even when you conquer all that land you can probably see how low my brigade count is due to the fact that I get none of them as accepted pops. South Africa is fun at the beginning but once you establish your nation it kind of sucks because of how empty and desolate it is, didn't finish that one either because of it felt like I was hard capped around 8th GP with no way to raise. Your pop remains low the entire time since old world nations can't get immigrants. It would be nice if there was a mod which added some more flavor to the Boers and let you sort of make the America of the old world. With all that land and gold I don't think it' sunrealistic at all that people would've moved there. I still think it's worth playing regardless though.

I also did an Ethiopia game though yeah similar experience where it wore off after a while. Long Paraguay sounds awesome, I might try another SA country sometime. As for the tall/wide debate I'm probably somewhat down the middle on it, sometimes I just feel like minmaxing economy and others I blob. I have had a few games where I got powerful enough to ignore the infamy limit (like that Japan one) and just chose not to because it's not fun fighting constant deathwars. As for my main nations, probably in no particular order Netherlands, CSA, and Scandinavia (formed either as Denmark or Sweden). I would highly recommend a Dutch game where you reconquer Belgium if you haven't, you can become filthy rich by the power of Belgian coal/iron and the East Indies. It's great for playing tall or wide, perhaps my favorite nation in the game

. Maybe I'll run another Italy game sometime, I have played as them a few times and it's cool since they have no colonies so you can funnel all of your colonial immigrants into one state. I made Tunisia like 40% Italian by endgame in one of them and stated it.

Doesn't it? I assumed you got the migration bonus just like Australia or the American nations. That's strange to be honest. I think GFM does have content for the Boer states, but I'm unsure. I remember I tried playing as the Zulu for the lols a while ago and the game just destroyed me constantly by expanding the Boer states on my land. No war possible or anything, just poof and the states flipped to a Boer nation out of nowhere.

My philosophy is try to expand towards borders that look natural, then I play defensively. The reason I didn't try to form the South German Federation in this game, and take the southern German states, is because I just didn't care for how the borders looked. I also have a save in which I conquered a huge chunk of Eastern Africa. The borders didn't look bad! But given the context it just didn't spark joy. Made me too blobby which makes me feel bad for some reason, I just don't enjoy administrating such large territories. So I rolled back and decided not to be involved in the scramble for Africa even though I could have.

I might try some day, I always get jealous of the Dutch having a monopoly on Indonesia, often times try to take a few of the islands for myself :AYAYAComfy:
This professor I'm having this cuatrimestre is utterly retarded.
    >you have to design all app icons for the indian slopware I'm making you create
    >even though we don't offer and never will offer you a graphic design class
    >even though most of your classes were focused on backend.
    >even though we are not supposed to teach you anything new on this class just ask you to create apps
    >"all icons must be the same but different"(?????)
    >turn in my icons
    >"these buttons are clearly different"
    >youdontsay.png
    >ask him what on Earth he means by the same but different
    >"they must be the same but different. These are all different, this is clear to the eye"
    >????
    >ask him if he means that they should have the same colour palette, my icons are fairly generic
    >"they must be the same but different."
    >tell him to show me what he means by that
    >professor brings out an image of google app icons
    >remind him we are not on the same level as a google graphic designer
    >"ahh, but that's the thing. This is the hardest part. You can't teach creativity"
    >implying google graphic designers just randomly stumbled into the position through sheer creativity
    >ok so the apps must look like they belong to the same app environment
    >after this fine critique of my art turn in the ui I've been working on
    >"these all look ok. But they must all be different, they need to have different palette, buttons, and fonts"

    >have beautiful house next door to mine
    >lush front garden and lawn, with a lemmon tree, a palmtree and a kumquat tree on the sidewalk.
    >old lady who lived there passes away
    >Their family sells the house
    >Paraguayan family moves next door.
    >a week in immediately chop down all trees in the property and sidewalk
    >ask them why are they doing this
    >they are going to pave over the lawn and garden(?????????)
    >can't do anything about it because it's their property
Why the fuck are they like this, it's always the paraguayans or bolivian migrants who act like that, it's like they are scared of dirt and life. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I'VE HAD THIS HAPPEN. I'm so angry right now.
