Slowly, I am getting back into the creating of art. I expect I should have more comic pages out within the relative future.
However, there's a danger lurking in the distance. On the horizon of the internet, there is a dark and foreboding cloud. A storm is coming, and it will not be gentle.
I believe that the general online world - specifically, ours on the HTTPS protocol - has rotted so much that we can no longer define the current landscape we are on as "the internet". I don't know what to call this, but it is no longer fitting to call it by the same name. The internet is not only dead, but it has nearly rotted away completely. Where we are now, is a small refuge in a vast wasteland of trash.
If we want to understand where we are now, we need to understand what's been lost.
We can define the internet as having once been like a sort of inter-psychological "place" in the past, while it's original usage was to share and maintain information, in the 90s and 00s it had taken on a different shape. It became an "other", a kind of subtle layer that was put over conventional reality, one which could enhance the user's experience of the world around them in an authentic way when used properly. If you didn't have a community, the internet gave you the chance to find them and interact both in and outside the digital space.
By no means was it always a good, the old internet is alot like a fairy tale landscape. There were monsters, dangerous territories. But all of it was somehow enchanted, time moved slow and thick like molasses. The phenomenon of creepy pastas represent in many ways the ethereal nature of the old internet. The internet was other, and it had as such a kind of sacred value to it.
This is gone. The old internet did not die a natural death, it was deliberately murdered. This was done in a direct and pointed effort to desacralize the world and to strip everything of value in order to maintain absolute control over every facet of your personal time.
The old internet has been replaced by a kind of advanced television. This television is interactable, and is designed explicitly to attack your subconscious and your imagination 24/7 through a slew of inescapable advertisements and blase psychological warfare, meant to keep you a productive and enslaved asset to capital. This television, which is manipulated through A.I and predatory algorithms, attacks you so thoroughly as to keep you in a constant state of neurosis. It encourages your worst aspects, feeding into addictions and delusions wherever possible.
The myth of the industrial revolution, the protestant theology of capitalism, is that it creates value. Here I argue this is not so, instead it is a constant attack on value. Capitalism must desacralize and devalue everything around it, in order to maintain economic control. By making nothing sacred, it makes it acceptable for manipulation and sale. By making everything valueless, it can crush it into forms which are easy to market.
There is more yet to this. It is not enough to devalue what already exists, this must go farther. By stripping out value from everything like a meth head stealing copper wire from your home, they can then sell a purposefully inferior product on the market. Selling a product which is shit on purpose means they can generate more income for a random handful of people in control of the markets, keeping the masses dependent on people like Jeff Bezos.
Gen A.I has been mismarketed to the public as part of this endeavor. I believe that folks like Sam Altman know exactly what it's capable of, but they are spinning a narrative of an "imperceptible machine" in order to fool people. Fool them into what? Into believing that A.I is simultaneously a magic tool and a kind of Machine God.
There are many reasons for this, but we can boil them into two primary reasons
1. So that A.I can fulfill it's intended purpose of destroying, desacralizing and killing on a massive level. Stripping human activity of value in order to maintain control over the lives of everybody, for economic and political power.
2. To benefit the TESCREAL cult. The cult which is calvinist-puritan in nature, selling a belief in a machine god that is destined to descend on the world, of a intellectual elite, of slaves. A cult which promises the end of the world is nigh- and conveniently has made tools (political and technological) to accelerate environmental and social destruction.
A.I is not a god, it is not sacred. It's a technology which is politically anti life, in order to service fascist-authoritarianism and the capitalist theology. It will create pictures of shrimp jesus for the same reason that, given the chance, it will generate media of crimes that never happened to politically punish dissenters. For the same reason it will encourage delusions, emotional dependence & addiction.
It's goal is to destroy and devalue everything.
