I added an agora current events board to contain discussions of political and current events to that category. This was due to a increase support for a separate board for political talk.
there is this celebrity paranormal researcher named mahmoud salah(not to be confused with mohamed salah) who comes on tv and rambles about conspiracy theories(basic vanilla stuff you realistically heard to death cuz you are more than 5 years old. zuck is a lizard, admiral byrd and teh icewalls, ect.)
even basic facts like big tech spying, he goes on and tards with "THEY ARE DOING IT BY READING YOUR BRAIN WAVESSS"... dude your phone(and everyone around you's phones.. hell most "smart" devices in your home at this point) has a mic, an internet connect(which can roughly locate you and know which devices are yours via the IP), and a processor to package all that sweet data up... it is that simple
anyways i drew him snorting cocain cuz i thourght it was funny
i am gonna develop severe tech paranoia at this point.
a buddy at my apartment called me "Dostoevsky" as a compliment and when i open youtube, not logged in, cache cleaned, less than an hour later guess what is the second result in the side bar? exactly a video about the life of dostoevsky.
this isn't even a "your phone is spying on you dummy" situation sense
a) i didn't have my phone on me at the time
b) this situation is happening on my computer, again not logged in, that shouldn't have any connections to my phone other than being on the same network.
to be fair i was looking up a clip of alburt camus... which i guess could technically connect to dostoevsky through some vague "wise dude" algo link? or maybe his phone was connected to our apartment's network and thus our ip address was marked as "interested in dostoevsky" or smt??
i stumbled on this.. it is interesting to see foreigners talk about it.
seeing these vids, believing they were real, and fighting with anyone calling the obviously fake videos fake(a fight mainly consisting of saying "NO YOU ARE STUPIDDD. CaNt U SeEEE??? it is right there on film????" and walking away grumbly) was the norm.. good times
yes, i thought slinderman was real
yes, i thought jeff the killer was real
yes, i thought the scp foundation was real
yes, you can insert any creepypasta or spooky thing made online pre-2018 and i probably believed it was real :/
Appreciate you checking out that blog of mine and leaving a comment. I don't use it as often as I should so I had no idea that comments needed to be manually approved, but it's up now.
due to some technical issues our landlord is dealing with, i have been living on dial-up level internet for about a week now. not as bad as i expected ig.
irc, messaging, and other simple stuff like ddg lite? works just fine
forums(this one and ng mainly) and normal webpages? take time to load but they work
large shit like youtube?... GIVE UP, page isn't even loading.
tho i have already been trying to cut off on youtube for a while, so i guess that helps. i feel at this point i have been opening it out of habit more than anything, neither gaining anything nor having fun, just passing time. i still sometimes stream things into mpv(audio only or verly low quality cuz duh) when someone from my rss posts but at least it is something i care about.
went to visit the dar al-hilal publishing house in down town cairo with my classmates, WW2 era building if i remember correctly(tho the publisher started in 1892).
this whole trip is a subject for a blog post(might do that for website Wednesday) but i wanted to show some pics from their "museum". basically a room filled with old equipment + president sadat's old desk from when he ran the place.
also here is a bloody fan from the 50s functioning better than half the new fans i have seen in my life
found an old podcast named (2014-2018) named video game generations. hosts are a dad and daughter... it is just super wholesome. interesting to relive old gaming rumors from back in the day
the witcher books are pretty fun so far, and the translation is nice except for one stupid pit peeve- they just transliterate "witcher" instead of the original wiedzmin or trying to make an arabic equivalent. a margins note says it was done cuz that is the more popular term and to avoid confusion between witchers and witches, which i understand but still would be interesting to seen the term rendered here.
the arabic word for a male witch is "mosha3with"(derived from "sha3-wa-tha", meaning witchcraft). so i guess a witcher rendering could be sha3witheen?
i was born in 2004, but my parents were super old(my dad was like- 50 when i was born i think), so growing up they would show me old b&w movies, play old radio recordings off youtube, or sing old songs from the 70s or older. what am left with, sometimes, is a nostalgia for an area i didn't even live.
not even an "oh this looks cool" or "omg i was born in the wrong generation blah blah blah". it is genuine nostalgia for a time i feel i grew up in, this vague amalgamation of old egypt, even tho my oldest memory of consciousness is from 2010...
