I remember I used to write up these literal essays on discord chat with this occultist Gypsy (absolutely brilliant man; phenomenal specimen of a mind) and it got to be so much we were banned from every literature server we joined

That's like asking if someone is Italian or Sicilian

Eh. It was funny sometimes and really tragic other times. I really, never, ever understood the argument for why it was bad. "Stop writing profound stuff; it's bullshit. Stop being long or thorough; it's disrespectful." Like what— you're seriously telling me to only talk in short bits about banal drivel? And that's supposed to be a sign of respect? I really never got it.

Lol no. Czechs are laid back like Germans, Slovak are laid back version of polish

It's not like there was only one channel either, and we were making all other discussion impossible. Just like in any IRC server or discord server, there were dozens and no one needed to lurk and read our commentary if they didn't want to... but the mere fact that we were doing it pissed certain people off to a degree that I always thought was irrational and had to be rooted in some kind of deep-seated anxiety and nihilism about the world.

oh. I see I left on the best lol. I get this from both sides. Something you can't really say stuff (like willhelpme), other times you forgot what you wanted to write and end up schizoposting.

anti-intelectualism. It is this fear that "western edu will make my kids gay (if they open up to world and ideas outside their heads a little)!"

A lot of it seems to stem from thinking that certain conversations should stay in other places like threads/personal websites/something, no idea though

This narrative is pushed by right-wing nuts who will lose their power if that deem to happen... (There used to be good rightwing sides, but they went from reasonable to redneck somehow in 2 decades)

Wanted to mention an aspect of people feeling inadequate when reading things they can't comprehend but that might just be one person (lol) and mild projection on own part

I don't think someone like say Eris is an anti-intellectual, though. Certainly, there's a virulent strain of that cancer in all our modern societies and it's deeply disturbing, but there has to be an ever more pervasive problem, because people seem to hate it at an emotional level even when they are themselves erudite.

Most people, at least here, obviously don't mind "intellectualism", time and place matter likely

More like a "only shitpost in here" policy, at least regarding chat

Maybe this is closer to the answer? It feels similar in time and vibe to right wing reactionism very often. Absolutely no logic, absolutely no reason, just "YOU CANT DO THAT BECAUSE I SAID SO" tier logic.
