4chan had a lot of resources for different subcultures and interests. If you wanted to be recommended a solid piece of software / hardware, for example, there was probably a general thread on /g/ for it, and their recommendations were more solid than >reddit

, twitter, youtube, or anything else, even if people in those threads were constantly screaming at each other about how their video player was better than another person's video player or something like that. It wasn't "creating culture" (at least, not to the same degree it was 10+ years ago) but it was a useful place for stuff like that, and it sucks that it's gone for that reason. I'm also salty that /vr/ is gone, since that was one of the only places to discuss old games online that didn't fucking suck.
