I find it impressive we haven't caught more attention from the chans. Maybe we overlap just enough to be uninteresting to them.
Seems like he have a good number of oldfags here at least. Pirate needs to run ads on /x/ again so we can get some more Nagolbud type characters joining up.

I'm actually impressed we haven't gotten soyjak spammed to oblivion by soyjak.party, we are too small I guess, they will shit on anything they can get there hands on, chan boards, random tech site comments, some of the old twitch raids on there were pretty comfy and produced some gold for a bit.
"No raids allowed" isn't even one of their global rules :gigachad:
One of the perks of being on the Kolyma network is all the typical guidelines soyjak.party and their other hosted websites can evade. That's one of the reasons I'm such an unapologetic VidLii shill, they're on Kolyma too and as a result copyright enforcement on video uploads is non-existent there.

It probably has more to do with the sign-up system in place at this site, since approval for account creation takes a bit any attempt at a raid could end up falling flat due to one cross-poster warning the admins of Agora. Even if they got past that and started spamming, new account creation could be locked for a bit and the offending accounts banned/ post removed and things would be back no normal more or less within a day or two.

I don't think I've ever gotten great reactions the few times I've so much as mentioned this forum anywhere else on the internet, and frankly, I think that's fine. I mean, think about it, do any of us really want to be sharing links implying that we're associated with anyone else here?

On a serious note, I feel like people tend to have one bad interaction or experience on a new website and paint the whole picture with it, or see one post with an opinion they disagree with not being shamed and assume that there's a predominant opinion they disagree with, and I'm not sure much can be done to help that. If the only options are carefully choosing when and where I mention this kookie little site, or having said site overrun with complainy assholes with preconceived notions about it, I'll gladly just do the first which is already what I've been doing.

lul, reminds me of when those sadgrl.online discord servers were being raided by /g/ and they were freaking the fuck out, I wanna say that was about a year ago now. (Also when and how did sadgrl pass fauux on Neocities for most popular site??)
I quite like sadgrl.online, full of useful information and the spirit of preservation. Isn't Melon sadgrl?

The Yesterweb's disord is a mixed bag. Their rules are decent and looks like they were at some point built to avoid the social anxiety of social media, but it looks like it's got its fair share of tweenagers scared of the hacker known as 4chan. I can't remember what community I went to that explicitly banned identity politics, but I thought that was a really nice touch.

I quite like The Yesterweb's Discord rule three:

3. Don't share or discuss sexual preferences, sex acts, porn, content depicting sexual acts, etc. There are plenty of other places online where you can do this.

It avoids the depravity of most of the hugbox "free speech" communities.

I find it impressive we haven't caught more attention from the chans. Maybe we overlap just enough to be uninteresting to them.
We get people from the chans. They either integrate or get bullied until they leave... or like some specific users I can think of they don't take the hint and think they're making friends while everyone ignores their posts.

Hi (lordofthecringe),
This is a moderation alert - Im sorry to have to edit your first post, but I had to remove a link to the Agora Forum you shared. Within the web revival community the Agora Forum is generally considered a toxic website and contrary to the values most of us share.

I personally believe in providing a forum experience thats safe, inclusive and kind, to people of all backgrounds - one way I ensure that is the case, is by barring links to sites that might be harmful or degrading to a visitors experience. This forum doesn't aim to be a village square, its more like a private house thats having an open party for neighbours.

Of course you're still welcome here; but please respect this forums community for what it is and not for what the rest of the web is like - there are so few kind places left online
:4u:

-Melon
As a mod representing agora road (any doubts or complaints can redirected to anyone in the moderation), i do not support many of the opinions shared in this forum, but i'll just say, i think that's an ethics problem that goes along with agora road debauchery, is not that agora road supports it, is just by the sole purpose of the forum, we don't really care, so as long as it follows the rules, people can say whatever they want, which carries many things, for example, that toxic people can say toxic shit, is not that we are toxic, is just that is the core value of agora road, a place in which pretentious social outcasts can rant and talk shit about their delusion of persecution or nutty conspiracies not even their mother believes, and pretend like they change internet by refusing to use the centralized web and spew things normal people found as a distate.

So yeah, let's just say is not a safe environment for someone who is easy susceptible to these kind of regurgitated topics, agora users believe that gatekeeping is good because it consist mostly in a user based on grump old people that are scared of change, so if you not tough up, and learn how to ignore perspectives that you find dumb, then you are not gonna have a good time here, for example, you might be thinking that because of the comments above this place is quite a toxic waste (that sometimes it is), but in reality i know the folks above, they are quite respectful and friendly, agora is a kind place if you learn to watch the positive stuff and ignore the bad things, as such, is more based on what the individual contributes rather than what the community has to scream (individual over collective due to the size limitations of the forum) is a matter of perspective, for you i might look like an alt-right jackass, but i'm actually probably more open minded and progressive than you are, so agora road is a place of opinion, individuality and debauchery, so yeah people will say so many things, but if you take the time to see it, it is worth it, sometimes.

Personally, sorry for the bad impressions you had on the server, but if you want to give agora a chance, you'll discover we are not that bad after all, and some users could feel an embrace of home bigger than they expect in this place, is not about circlejerking or imaginary constructs created by lonely people, is just mere personal experience, so yeah, any complaint, request, opinion, or proposition, be welcome to talk to the moderation or directly with the admin: @IlluminatiPirate @admin

Happy trails, partner.

I know some folks that are quite nice in there, but the yesterweb discord makes me feel irrelevant, your comments goes ignore in an ocean of topics, which always seems the same to me, with all respect, but i'm kinda tired of just reading the same topics about web design over and over again, that's something i got to give credit to agora road, even if the jackasses in the containment chat can't stop talking about religion every single goddamn time someone's says "god" for the rest, topics never seems to stick and always change.

Pirate needs to run ads on /x/ again so we can get some more Nagolbud type characters joining up.
And while you are at it, why don't you drink some gasoline and become a nagol of your own? You can also try making a mud crackhouse in a latin american jungle and steal wifi from your neighbors and make your own youtube channel with some payed sex worker to appear in your videos and tell someone how to live their life while running out of money, you will be poor and miserable, but hey, your schizo takes will be the finest for other losers on the internet.

I don't think I've ever gotten great reactions the few times I've so much as mentioned this forum anywhere else on the internet, and frankly, I think that's fine. I mean, think about it, do any of us really want to be sharing links implying that we're associated with anyone else here?
You say it like someone wants to be associated with agora road, in the highschool that is the descentralized webring of the yesterweb we are basically that loser weeb loner outcast that things he is cool for wearing a nirvana shirt ironically and had cringe takes like non ironically thinking that Serial Experiments Lain is a deep piece of artistic media and not just a nostalgic posterchild for the counterculture aesthetic of the dissasociated/raised in the internet fellow that is engaging in the message the show opposed in the first place, instead of just an intent of avant-garde media that can be summarized as "ooga booga, internet and future goes too fast, dissasociation cringe" with so many bullshit not even Yoshitoshi knows what's going on and making analysis that take around 3 hours just to say at the end "yeah, people in the autistic spectrum shouldn't use internet" (watch thexnolyze instead, is a much better anime than lain)

The only people who wants to be associated with agora road apparently are outcast chans, somalian pirates, brazilians (they want to be associated with everything for some reason) and the Juche Government of People's Republic of Korea (Also applies for firewall chinese folks), so we should kinda drop the act of the picky princess.

We get people from the chans. They either integrate or get bullied until they leave... or like some specific users I can think of they don't take the hint and think they're making friends while everyone ignores their posts.
Let me guess, Cunei? He is kinda cute tho.

People today think if a site allows one or two assholes to post it must be a site for assholes. It's become this really weird cultural thing, man. If you don't show active support for something someone else believes in, they accuse you of showing disdain. If you don't show active disdain for something they don't believe in, they accuse you of showing support. The idea that someone just doesn't care that much is unfathomable to them.

Like, if I let an obnoxious guy who chews with his mouth open and burps a lot into my restaurant, it doesn't mean I actively support poor table manners. Maybe his poor manners just don't bother me enough to warrant throwing him out. Big difference.

When I was growing up, not caring and being kind of amoral was viewed as the correct way to behave amongst me and my peers. It feels like culture has done a complete 180 since then. Ask 50 different people how they feel about that flip and they'll probably give you 50 different answers. To me it feels like the people who were angry about us amoral kids in the 90s have all gotten old or died and now there is a generation of kids who are angry about amoral 30-40-50 somethings. Why does everyone besides people born in this 20-30 year window from the late 60s-to mid 80s care about what other people say on the Internet so much? lol. Everything funny is either offensive to Jesus or trans people, apparently.

How'd you know my news years resolution? :JahySmug:
Obviously Nagolbud was crazy but idk I found it whacky and entertaining more than anything else. I'm not a janny so him making a mess for others to clean up wasn't my headache to deal with.

Isn't Melon sadgrl?
I don't think so? Could be wrong though.
If anyone is looking for a tongue and cheek alternative to a raid, I suggest buying a plot of land in Melon Town and claiming it on behalf of Agora Road :agnudgbl:

Holy fuck I love how playful Melon Town is. What a lovely place. I'll say it again, I'm glad the Yesterweb project exists.

I hope one day users from Melontown can put aside their differences and come together with the people of Agora to hold hands and talk about the looming problem of the web-lizardpeople psyops.

See, it's funny, because I completely agree with you, but also I have realized something very related to this for a long time now, kinda coming from the other side as a zoomer. My grandparents were always insistent on manners and politeness and whatnot, and because of that, it seems like Gen-X and Millenials decided they were going to counter that culture via rude apathetic assholery. Now, my parents and other adults surrounding me are amoral pricks, and so I, being the anti-society people-hater that I am, have to be polite and kind overall to counter the shitty scornful social attitude that's been built, otherwise I am literally acting the same as the people who want it to be this way. There's a certain rush you get from being genuinely nice to rude assholes in a passing sense (*which is no-doubt just another straw on the superiority complex bearers' back).

Granted, there's still plenty that I don't care about, I generally don't go sticking my nose in other people's problems unless I want to be entertained, but this is something that effects how I live my day-to-day, and could potentially shed some light on why what you're talking about is a thing.

Arguably the only reason I'm not one of those annoying tumblrite zoomers is the fact that unfettered internet access had my ass browsing the chans and SA at single-digit ages which probably fucked me up enough to vibe with all you old people.

The idea that I might have called you a fag or retard on SA when I was in my early 20s and you were under 10 is genuinely disturbing. Ha ha ha

Yeahhh, as a child who was on the internet, children should really not be allowed on the internet lmfao. People like to say that trauma made them more mature as kids or wtf ever, but honestly I just gained maturity by learning to more or less seamlessly blend in with adults on the internet.

I agree 100%. My kids only get unsupervised access in walled gardens like Amazon Kids or via a Chromebook where we have to approve sites they visit and that's the way I intend to keep it until they're in their early teens.

Anyone who says "be kind" is almost invariably the opposite of kind. This guy clearly just wants a hugbox. "We don't want an open square". In other words you don't want the old internet back. What you actually want is the Tumblr era back when social media wasn't so automated as to destroy any attempt at actual communication. Of course this completely ignores the fact that Tumblr and its' culture played a huge role in the formation of the modern net as people increasing wanted "positive vibes only" social media which inevitably creates auto generated social media as the only means to achieve that is to replace all the humans with robots. The social justice crowd is more than catered to. It doesn't want to interact with real people because real people prevent them from escaping into their delusional fantasy world.

I'm actually shocked that other people on the yesterweb consider us toxic and contrary to the values of the old net. Especially seeing as the oldnet was an incredibly toxic place. Lurkers, predators, harassers, scammers, etc etc. The oldnet was far less safe than this site is. We don't even do raids like the oldnet, let alone irl raids.

I think older folks who can't handle the harshness of reality slink back into this comfy, rose-tinted, pillow dream of a remembrance of the oldweb to escape their daily lives. Young people seem to see some sort of intrinsic goodness associated with the oldnet as well, which was never really there.

"I personally believe in providing a forum experience thats safe, inclusive and kind, to people of all backgrounds"
While I agree that we should provide a space 'to people of all backgrounds', nothing is safe. Even these flimsy, hugcircles aren't "safe". Its a pipedream unbefitting of reality. So, I see it as my duty to curate a place where people of one kind don't overshadow those in smaller groups, to allow the growth of all. Its the same idea behind why you don't plant plants too close to each other. You can't remove people who you disagree with and then claim your space is "for people of all backgrounds". (I know that they were not removed, just the link to our site, but its the same concept.)

Indeed, the impact will be felt across the entire services economy: and we don't even need humans for their political biases anymore from what ChatGPT will and won't write so far. Then again, as Twitter perhaps shows, only a core of white-collar workers are needed to actually run firms, and the rest can go help rebuild the UK or US army, or such-like. What an irony that would be: the people who patronisingly told blue-collar workers to 'learn to code' being told to become blue-collar workers, because that's just progress.
