I kinda wonder if Reminiscence could be a good compromise for something like this, since it attempts to make something like BTA in a modern version of Minecraft rather that mod that old version directly. I don't really have a personal preference between the two; I just figured I'd mention it since it's a cool project.
It looks cool, and personally? I think there's a good point to it. There's a bunch of technical improvements to modern minecraft that make it a bit less insufferable to play. Modern minecraft's recipe book is better than BTA, and the world gen doesn't have awful scars between versions whenever worldgen was slightly changed. Plus if it has 1.5 redstone stuff, hoppers, droppers and comparators that's a plus. If it has 1.9+ combat that's a negative imo since the combat changes are rubbish.

Also @ビンス since you mentioned BTA v 7.3, what does that update include? Does it have the aether, since I was aware they were teasing a "Paradise" dimension a while back

- Igneous Cobbled Netherrack, Mossy Cobbled Netherrack, Netherrack, Netherrack Bricks, Polished Netherrack Slab, Cobbled Netherrack Slab, Netherrack Brick Slab, Cobbled Netherrack Stairs, and Netherrack Brick Stairs.
- Soul Schist, a new stony variant of Soul Sand. Currently unused.
- Bone Shale, a tough bony block that can only be broken from one direction. Currently unused.
- Paintbrush, which allows you to recolor some blocks such as wool and wooden planks once they've been placed.
- Reinforced Piston, a stronger piston variant that can push more blocks, launches mobs and blocks like projectiles, and can crush blocks down into simpler forms (e.g. cobblestone -> gravel -> sand).
- Activator, a new utility block that, when powered, performs a right-click action for you. Likely to be useful for automated farms.
- Redstone Pumpkin, a new spoOoOky variant of the pumpkin crafted using a Redstone Torch which only applies redstone power from a single side.
- Inverted Redstone Lamp, a variant of the Redstone Lamp that is lit by default and extinguished when powered.
- Some blocks now have retro texture variants in the Retro, Indev and Classic world types.

== Changes to Existing Blocks and Items ==
- Perma-Ice now spawns in patches in cold biomes.
- Food now makes a sound when consumed.
- Removed Redstone Torch burnout.
- Renamed Netherrack to Cobbled Netherrack.
- Cobbled Netherrack can now be used as a substitute for stone in recipes.
- Cherries now only stack to 2.
- Crude Steel has a new texture.
- Many, many piston bugs have been fixed.
- Dyed blocks can now be un-dyed using a sponge.
- Minecarts with chests now retain their colour.
- Pistons can now push block entities such as chests, furnaces, and seats.
- Flowers can now be stacked up to four times in one tile.
- Motion Sensors and Dispensers can now be placed facing upwards and downwards.
- Note blocks now have several more instruments to choose from.
- Nether Portal linking can now be controlled using dyes - e.g. a green portal will only link to another green portal.
- The recipe for ropes has changed to no longer require slime balls.
- Rope breaking behaviour is now more reliable and useful.
- Furnaces and Blast Furnaces now have an alternate texture when they have items sitting in their output slot.
- Players can now control whether the reverse side of a flag is mirrored.
- Pigmen now only spawn on natural Nether blocks.
- Players can now place any item on their head.

- Migrated the game from LWJGL2 to LWJGL3.
- Added support for modern UUIDs.
- Log4J is now used across both the client and server for logging.
- The game now supports more launch arguments, improving compatibility with modern Minecraft.

(And no I am not overloading them they just keep getting fired (at an inconsistent rate) at my door design.)
(Can we use 1.12 or any modern MC mod/version instead of nostalgiafagging?)
Redstone torch burnout is removed in this upcoming update.

Sorry to anyone who's super into the idea of modern Minecraft but we will be sticking to BTA. I just want to make this clear now to avoid confusion or people getting too attached to the idea.
Yeah, fair. I just figured I'd at least bring up Reminiscence since I remembered it existed and it's generally a cool project. BTA is awesome too though; and I'm still really excited to play on a more active server running it.

Question to all of you: how can we ensure that the server remains active?

The Frag Nights are easy since it's one day a week which allows people to miss it all week and come for one day. A 24/7 server fragments and scatters people. I'm sure the server will be super active at launch and then die soon after.

I'm thinking of having an event called a "Block Party" semi-regularly, where we all get on to play at the same time. I just don't know what times or days of the week would work best for this since we have two Frag Nights and a Movie Night now.

What do you all think? Please give me your input.

Maybe have the block party be associated with a goal or activity, so people hang out and work towards something. Sometimes it can be a personal goal (add x to your base), and other times a community goal (create a public park).

You could tie that together with "season goals" or something where there's month-2month long period goals to allow some people to work on things on the off peak hours. And/or maybe competitions where winner gets X.

As much as I hate the obligatory playtime and pushed monetization a lot of new games have, this is something that (in moderation) could help ensure a somewhat steady audience.

Wait until Minecraft Alpha becomes what everyone is nostalgic for, and it becomes an inventory of stone pickaxes to flatten mountains. Truly minecrafters of old were just built different

It's exclusive to Agora road members afaik. I think it's a whitelist situation though because there was rumblings about griefers from somewhere else earlier in the thread
I see. So whenever it goes online again I'd be down to play so add me to that mailing list please.

@ビンス and others, curious to hear what other people think.
Would it be possible to have additional mods for BTA alongside it?
  • Basket Tipping, which lets you right click a basket to flip it to insert its items into the container and right click to make it back upright to grab items(which combines with the activator to do this tipping). I'm sure @Ashman will love it just as much as I do, because it replaces hopper functionality in a beta-feeling way, and allows for more cool redstone farm designs(i.e. cobblestone collecting facility that then outputs cobblestone into a cobble->gravel->sand machine that then outputs into a trommel, combined with a wood farm to output fuel into them all)
