Indeedly-do, that's what I do.
I also scan the books I bought and I upload them on libgen. And I say everyone should do the same. It's not that hard and it will help those of us who cannot access printed issues for whatever reason.

The exception would be for very expensive historical books. For those, it may be cheaper to go to a library which will or probably will have it, and look through it there. If none of those libraries have it, you're gonna have to cough up money for it. Besides most historical books remain in Latin, and often don't have translations or scans. But this exception... not many people go looking that far back.
If you have to buy the book, I'd also suggest looking into whether anyone has made a print on demand copy of it on something like Lulu. Buying original copies gets expensive fast(unfortunately I don't think there's many people doing this, let alone making decently typeset and nice to read copies).
