I remember enjoying A Scanner Darkly and if I recall correctly Alex Jones even makes an appearance.

Please tell me you already watched black mirror. If you haven't, watch it right now, drop everything you're doing right now and watch all of it. It's dystopia the serie basically.

Not sure how seriously you want the movie to take itself. Iron sky (2012) is about nazi's fleeing to the moon after the fall of nazi germany. Ridiculous movie, but hilarious.

If you want a more serious movie, but not too serious, try behind the curve (2018), a documentary about flat earthers, that ends with the flat earthers doing an experiment to try and do an experiment to prove their statement.

If you want a movie that's actually going to teach you about the fucked-upness of the world, try the great short (2008). It follows a story about how someone predicted the 2008 financial crash, bet against the American economy and made huge bucks. What I love about this movie is how it takes itself so serious that it regularly breaks the 4th wall in order to get you a clearer picture of what really happened.

If you want a serie to watch that's a balance of them all. A fictional story that tries to poke on real-life topics, go watch years and years. It's about a Br**ish family living in an increasingly dystopic Br**ain that's gets more ridiculous the more the serie goes on.

I can't think of any good movie with that subject but watch the show called "Utopia", it's incredible.
Was just about to recommend this. Make sure you watch the 2013 version (british) not the shitty american remake

I second Eyes Wide Shut but only if you can watch movies that get started quite slowly. The original Snowpiercer movie is a pretty good original take on a dystopia too- I haven't seen the series though.

If you want something with similar vibes but nonfiction, you might like journalism/whistleblower movies. Spotlight (about the catholic church abuse scandal), Official Secrets (about the iraq war), etc. are all pretty based and have that little guys vs evil government/organisation conspiracy vibe.

Altered carbon. It's a tv series but has the dystopia stuff. In the altered carbon universe, the UN rules the world(And several other planets)

THX 1138 is pretty good, very dystopian society that makes you dependent on pills and stuff like that. One of Lucas few good movies.
If you don't see the movie you must at least see the chase scene on youtube, very very good.

I have a whole collection of content like this on my media server. I'll list my top hits with a blurb.

Harrison Bergeron (1995)
Only tangentially related to the Vonnegut short story. It's about a future where a second American revolution happens and a new constitution is drafted: "All men are not created equal, it is the government's duty to make them so." Harrison is an exceptionally intelligent man in a world where the exceptional is forbidden. Gets into how they maintain this "equal" society.

The Brotherhood of the Bell (1970)
I'll quote the official blurb. "A successful professor has his life disrupted by a secret from his past — in his college days he became a member of a powerful secret society, and now the society has a job for him."

Network (1976)
Predicts the creation of Fake News. Note the year it was released. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" How revolutions can be co-opted into the machine itself.

They Live (1988)
Already mentioned, but to go into more detail: It's about the elite controlling America through propaganda. Guarantee you've seen references to this.
Yeah it's old. The good shit is old.

The Stuff (1985)
Commentary on the food industry. A new diet frozen yogurt takes the world by storm.

The Truman Show (1995)
Another classic. Man learns he's living in a reality TV show.

Harmony (2015)
Anime movie. "In 2019, following an uprising in the USA and a subsequent global nuclear war, humanity was decimated by a catastrophe called "The Maelström." A half-century after this cataclysmic event—to preserve humankind—the World Health Organization (WHO) has progressively assimilated worldwide political power and completely redefined society: people are now considered public resources and are guaranteed a happier life."

Following this thread, I'm always hungry for more.
