the first American pope, from the lands of Illinois of the great metropolis of Chicago. Deep dish pizza and the Chicago hotdog shall become the main dish of Catholics around the world. Chicago finally has more influence over world affairs than stinky New York. All hail the new American Midwest age.

It is wild to watch people scramble to pigeonhole the new pope into some ideological box in real time. "Oh he is American so he will just be a capitalist shill", "Oh his stance on immigration and the environment seem to be similar to Pope Francis he is a l i b e r a l", "Oh his stance on homosexuality is anti-LGBTQ".

Yeah it's getting exhausting listening to all these midwits shrieking about the Left-Right Dichotomy when in fact (if you have a brain and soul) you realize things are infinitely more complex than a 2 sided axis.

this because everything has to revolve around the world you know. King Charlemagne lifted peasants into positions of power, so he's a marxist leftist, rightist populist demogog, anarcho-monarchist, communist nationalist. I know this because this is my world view is the only one that has ever existed.

Huh... an American Pope, I guess it really is a "new" direction for the Church. Let's hope it's at least an interesting Papalcy. :OhISippyn:
Well, ""American"" as some are saying. Guy spent most of his life outside of the US and is a citizen of Peru. Not sure if he's also an Italian citizen, but a big chunk of his life has been spent in Italy.

But his American accent is a bit obvious, so I doubt people will take the word "American" as loosely as some others.

I think a lot of it has to do with how the internet is overly political, ideological and tribalistic- but also probably the dead internet theory means bots are yapping the same one-sided shit. I think the people who are doing this, have been swallowed and are being digested by their ideology.

If you have two brain cells that you can rub together, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that the Catholic church and the pope are upholding catholic doctrine. They're not quite as beholden to the whims of the world as all the protestant denominations are

I notice no mention of confession in this. Was he stuck in a bad situation due to the seal of confession? Once you consider this, it's pretty much career suicide to break the seal of confession. Also would be interested to read your source on this, I don't know much about this new pope

his diocese denied the accusation that he didn't handle the situation properly, but "in May 2025 allegations emerged that the diocese paid $150,000 to the three girls to silence them. Described as "longtime public critics of Prevost", the girls reportedly blame Prevost for covering up their sexual abuse by the priest." this is from the source that i have linked.

This is interesting thanks for sharing the source. Their source points to a source that then points to infovaticana(original source getting swept up...) which had this to say about being paid $150k(Fed through google translate because no hablo espanol).
In addition, days before the Pope's death, this media received information that the diocese of Chiclayo allegedly paid $ 150,000 to victims of abuse who denounced Cardinal Prevost for cover-up. Today's response from the bishopric is silence.
Infovaticana doesn't substantiate these claims, so it's an "I said, they said" situation. First you'd have to prove they got that money, second you'd have to prove the intent of it is to silence them. That said, I think it's interesting seeing this in the college of cardinals post.
Some accusers have claimed Prevost failed to properly investigate the allegations and covered up for the accused priest, but the diocese has firmly denied this, stating that Prevost followed proper procedures. They stated that Prevost personally received and attended to the victims, and reportedly opened an initial canonical investigation. He also encouraged the victims to take the case to the civil authorities. In July 2022, Prevost sent the results of the investigation to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) for review. His supporters stress that he has documents from the DDF and the Papal Nunciature in Peru which also indicate that he was not only attentive to the presumed victims, but that he did all required in Church law in following procedures set out for these cases.4
I personally think their statement disagrees with reality as it goes against another infovaticana article on how they've decided to go against the lawyer priest who's helping the victims. If they're in the right, it should be plain and evident in court, and the people prosecuting you will have to pay your fees for wasting your time, but considering they're prosecuting the lawyer that's helping the victims... makes it seem like their defense wouldn't hold up, and that their encouragement to go to civil authorities was fake. After looking into it, I agree with you and I think this is very suspicious...

The two other things I have to question. Why now to sound the bells about this? It seems a little bit politically convenient in timing. And how effective is Peru's justice system? Because it's Latin America I just have my doubts on it being effective, but perhaps that's unfair of me.
I mean, duh, he was a Catholic bishop.
Clergymen as a profession tend more often to have Cluster B mental disorders. In particular psychopathy. So yeah, not really that out of character
