Are we getting that AAA by halloween? :EZY:
we did not get that AAA :binTot: I must perform ritual suicide to restore my honor tomorrow
Though I got a 815k on this chart today which was pretty gnarly. My new goal is to get a clear on this before the end of the year, and assuming it doesn't change in the meantime, get the Australian high score for it sometime in March, cos the current score seems like something I could get higher than if I really put myself to it. I feel like that after that I could finally call myself a 'good DDR player'

Get them Cycle, those charts look insane and the end is quite deceitful with the "thank you very much for your best dance!" before hitting you with a final quick barrage of steps!
Looking forward to you claiming the kingdom of Australia

Most i can do is B on 5 feet songs and the few times i ventured to the 6 and above realms i have gotten me ass, lungs and feet kicked. So i consider meself a really average to below-average dancer despite loving the classic DDR games. I think its a mixture of lack of practice and dancemat set up. Case in point, since there are some insane dancers on this thread. What are your tips and pointers to improve alongside practice?

Fantastic - this is how it is/was supposed to be done. Smooth...stylish...minimal barholding. Puts in a tear in my eye bros :peepoCryDrink:

I go to a barcade here in New Orleans that has damn near EVERYTHING but DDR. All the capcom stuff, Neo Geo, all the 80's cabs, Dreamcasts and Playstations plugged up to CRTs, Steam setups for the more modern stuff...but no DDR. Might have to convince/bribe/threaten/cajole them to get a DDR machine...they already have tournaments for everything else weekly so I feel like it would definitely be a perfect fit. I'm in the same boat as you - trying to figure out a way to play at home that doesn't involve spending a ton of $$$

How much does it cost to get in? An arcade close by me is 1 hour. Then I have to pay 15 euro entry fee. The other one I have to pay with credits. I wonder how much u pay. Sad it doesn't have DDR though, thats sad. My arcade uses the machine but with stepmania 5 and a really glitchy DDR theme.

It's like five bucks to get in, or 8 for the entire weekend. You can also get a yearly membership for like 125 bucks and go whenever you want. None of the games require quarters at all so you can just post up and play until you are blue in the face. I can ride my bike there in about 20 min if it's not 105 degrees out and I'm motivated. Never had it this good, ever. I spent endless amounts of money in the 90's/2000's at the arcade dumping quarters in the machine. Now i just spend it on beer/food instead. I don't know of anywhere else like this in the USA. I'm sure there are places out there but I've sure as hell never seen it.

I referenced that exactly in the thread earlier but basically:
All gear i have now a days are two of those original shitty dance mats and a PS2 to PC adapter, with Konamix and 5th mix on the Duckstation emulator, it is not the best set up because Windows recognizes them as generic controllers and their Xbox controller driver is unable to recognize opposite direction presses at once. So <- -> and ^ v are impossible without basically cheating.
It is the most economic way to get set up however, i havent tested with direct USB dancemats. But it gets the job done at the casual level. Where i live there are no DDR machines nearby, there is 1 arcade but its always stepmania, i want to play DDR god damn it!

Play more and have fun:ffzYou3: the two most important thing
But for real..
  • If stamina is your bottleneck, all you can do is play more.
  • If its reading, you can try watching Yuisin's youtube vids and mimicking the patterns with feet or even your two index fingers. What I do is I have Stepmania with all DDR tracks up to A20+ and controls mapped out on my numpad. It's like a tiny dancepad. I use it for studying particularly difficult charts that I want to do, because I only have so much money and don't want to waste that on instant-failing a chart to be honest.. especially gimmicky charts.
  • As for accuracy, I tried many different things but really the only thing that worked well is actively thinking about your accuracy while playing. Playing comfortable charts as well, some techniques you come across like ghost-stepping (keep stepping to stay in time during sparse sections) but those are just accuracy aids, they won't do so much for you as you expect.
  • Gravitate between playing songs that you are very comfortable playing, to songs that you are barely able to do. Playing for accuracy versus playing to clear, are often two different approaches.

Hey, I didn't reply but after looking furthur I found someone selling a USB only mat for quite a nice price. 30 euro, the reason I got that instead of the ps2 one is because the ones I've been looking for looked really bad, this looks pretty decent.

Next to that; what is everyone's favorite DDR song? Mine is 20, November; someone made a medley:

I also really like Stay With Me:

Edit: I also really like this song:

Let's just put 3 of your favorite songs, not the ones you like to dance on the most, but the one u like to listen to the most.

So I've been playing this nonstop for 3 days now, and I just wanna know how people really progress? I am defintely better than the first day, but my max is a 6 footer (On stepmania 5). Never got an AAA though, my highest is an AA in All I want for Christmas LOL.

My mat has been doing me solid lately, it's a DDR pad with foam insertion, it works like a charm but occasionely doesn't do what I want. For now, it's perfect
