Thread to discuss Daria and the Daria fandom. I'm gonna kick it off with a couple of things.
First I want to show that Daria has a very interesting old-school fanbase. Or rather, had an interesting old-school fanbase, because the heyday of activity was happening on Usenet, IRC, and dedicated forums. In this way, Daria is very deeply linked to the old web which I think adds some interest to it.
To this day there are some relics of the past which still stand. Here are a few places where these are gathered:
One interesting observation is that unlike in new fandoms, writing and reading essays seems seem to be a common practice, before fandom became a monoculture that made everything under it's umbrella highly conformist. I wish I'd dived deeper into this history before I made this thread but eh.

I would like to briefly showcase my favourite fanartist, who was active until around the 2010's, named S-C. I think with Daria people tend to be more writers (duh, cause Daria is le writer) so most Daria art isn't really great, but this is like an exception.
I'm only showing a couple things, not everything he does looks exactly like the show. Check him out: S-C on DeviantArt

Of course this isn't just for talking about the fandom, there's also a show!
Who are your favourite characters? Least favourite characters? Favourite moments, least favourite moments, things you liked and didn't like in the show, idk just talk about Daria.
One of my favourite characters is Stacey. She is the most genuine feeling member of the Fashion Club, even more so than Quinn. It's sad to see her anxiety get the better of her and let her get pushed around all the time, especially when you can see Sandy knows it and does it on purpose. It's awesome when you see her start to push the boundaries and break out of it. She didn't end up with magical fuck-you confidence either like a lot of media do, she just got a little better, it's a start, and that's just perfect I think.

Haha, interesting. I just clicked on this thread 'cause I was wondering why there is so much Daria art on the media tab all of a sudden. I've really only seen her in those few Beavis and Butthead episodes, but I'll be sure to watch soon enough.

I found a 1080p AI upscale of Daria recently and can't believe I had never heard of it until it popped up randomly on a torrent tracker and I gave it a watch. Wow.
I love how Daria isn't just the self-insert edgy teen, she's sarcastic but also vulnerable and complex. The show is just so...real. The interactions are real, the personalities are real, the situations are ridiculous but real. It's a breath of fresh air in comparison to other sitcoms that contrive situations to Make Funny Drama Happen. I'm only two seasons in and have been taking my time with it. I'm excited to go through the fandom docs once I'm done, but I want to enjoy the ride and not spoil myself.

Daria's the obvious favorite to the point where it feels contrite to say it. My surprising favorite is the dad. He's clearly struggling to be a good father and expresses unusual anxiety for a man. The show is using the tried-and-true "smart woman dumb man" in a new and interesting way, showing that he feels insecure about being the "dumb" one.

12/10 great show
