I think people on both sides are overestimating just how much say Musk will have in how the company is run. There's a whole staff any decisions have to get greenlit by, including a CEO, and advertisers are skiddish when it comes to controversies. Musk is using his money to secure his ability to shitpost with impunity and manipulate his stock prices as he's always done, as well as using the platform to promote his businesses and transhumanist worldviews. For the rest of us, Twitter will remain the insufferable propaganda machine it always was.

Edited to add he's also likely to be using the platform to mine data, like his old friend Peter Thiel did while on the board of Facebook.

All Elon has to do is unban @realDonaldTrump and I'll be okay with this. We're really missing out on the comedic potential of Trump back seat presidenting Biden while rationing him in the replies.
If Elon allows real free speech Trump won't post there. Trump won't post anywhere where people are allowed to criticize Jews. That's why he never moved to Gab. Andrew Torba, the owner of Gab, was contacted by Trump's team and asked to ban "antisemitism" in order to get Trump posting there. Thankfully Torba told them to fuck off.

I take it Trump won't be on GoyimTV or Bitchute anytime soon? :lainDissatisfied:

Even if Elon gave controversial people more leniency to express themselves on the site I don't think he or the rest of the board would ever let it get to the point of Twitter turning into a light version of /pol/. People are exaggerating him being pro free speech, if anything it at best will just provide a little more breathing room for the likes of Joe Rogan, I think the average person will still get screwed over by moderation. And if that BlackRock stuff posted here earlier is true then this is just another instance of him being a master of spinning PR while making bank.

But further food for thought on the potential of Trump getting unbanned, I'm not too sure if Elon donated to the Trump campaign but they seemed to have been on much better terms than Musk is currently with Biden. Everytime Biden speaks of EV production in the US he almost never brings up Tesla, despite then being considered the premier manufacturers of them. Irc Biden giving them the cold shoulder is because Tesla is not union friendly, and it doesn't help that Musk isn't the type to launder government handouts through some social justice group the DNC like the Ford Foundation does. If Musk wanted to be just as petty as the Biden administration then unbanning Trump would be the way to go imo.

I'm not mad about this at all, it would in the long run be good to have people driven off twitter. I say make the place as horrible and unusable as possible. It has done way too much damage in it's current form, you cannot make a worse web site.

Elon Musk buys twitter, adds edit button, forces its users to buy into random cryptocurrency, Trump reinstated and every tweet is made larger than the others and also placed at the top of your screen. If you pay a tribute to Elon he lets you delete a single post. Every original idea you post on twitter is invested in by Elon, but in return you are executed immediately. If you pay the ultra-premium-deluxe-once-in-a-life-time package for 1000 Eth you get to say the n word

Biden is one of the internet's top punching bags along with Harris. You know this has to be wearing him down.

I doubt he's even aware. His handlers probably keep him insulated from most of that stuff.
If it wasn't already clear he's just trotted out for appearances and isn't making the decisions, when the Whitehouse recently contradicted big statements he made in two different speeches they removed all doubt to that fact.

If he buys Cali they will all have to scurry out like roaches. Question is which state are they going to infest next
The Californians need to figure something out and stay contained in one place. I'm not sure I can handle seeing any more undercut-sporting twinkies in the thrift store.

And this is why alternative platforms such as Gab or Parler won't be able to go big. Makes me glad that Agora Roads does not go on that route.

Shade tossing aside, making Twitter much much tolerable and breathable for people is what I hope to see. Keep the extreme at the fringes but keep conservations open without playing favorites or intervening.

As for the whole Trump shtick. It be funny to see him reinstated just for the lulz but I don't see him being brought back in the near future to be honest.

Also, that's interesting. Biden not liking Musk because his company isn't friendly to unions.

Literally there's tons of Californians here who don't even agree to the mainstream beliefs and doctrines you'd see on the internet or in your personal life and most of them are as average as any other Americans outside of the state. I've interacted with my statesmen when I was in college or just from daily walks in my neighborhood, including family members, and all of them agree they don't like the current overall state California, nor do they agree with more extreme folks like SJWs and Socialists. Hell, some even questioned other Californians when they move out just to vote for the same policies that made them leave in the first place and there was a time not long ago when all of California was unanimously enraged when our state governor was caught red handed going against the mandates and policies, he personally legislated them into law last year during the pandemic.

I've only met two people who actually FIT into the description when you think of Californians and believe me, they have no clue on how economics actually work nor how understandably angry the other states in the union have gotten because of the mass exodus of Californians (and other Americans coming from Democrat-dominant states) leaving to other states. Hell, one of them, who smokes weed on a daily basis, told me how everything I said to him and my cousin how the mandates and stimulus checks here was actually doing more harm than good was a "republican narrative" to him and attempts to bring his shitty brand of politics that I keep hearing from the news here and from bad college professors. Again, he was one of the two Californians I met that fit into that stereotype.

It's frustrating as hell and it makes me feel mentally tired when I see people online and constantly joke about my state being a shithole and while I agree with the sentiment that the current state of California is terrible, it's not doing anyone's favor when everyone could do is point and laugh and treat it as a go to punching bag. Fucking hell man!

Rant over.
Its not an advisable thing to get vexed on behalf of your state if those at the levers of power don't give a toss about you. Perfectly possible to separate the individual, the people of the state and the governing body of the state.

If you're sick of your state being a punching bag, the best defense is a good offense proverb is always good to follow. I encourage you to bullycide other states.

I love to see the reactions of censorship morons wanting to censor more speech when a free speech person takes over lol . These people who worked at twitter are brain dead anyways. I've used twitter the last two years since then I've been on other platforms which have more features. twitter has been useless my whole life

How about all you folks try helping me to teach Californians how basic economics works and understand political issues without belittling them or treating them as literal red necks and maybe suggest them some actual politicians who are of grassroot origin? Is that even hard to do? FFS people.

My post was meant in jest, but I feel like I unintentionally hit a nerve here.
Can't speak on anyone else's behalf, but I don't have any ill will towards Californians or other west coasters. Poking fun at other states is a time-honored tradition. I like to think that there are people on here smart enough to understand that a loud subgroup does not reflect the greater population. Again, it was a joke.
Of course there are many non-SJW people. Actually, most Americans seem to be like that. News propaganda just sensationalizes crazy commies from the Bay. You can't really assign political archetypes to statespeople because there are too many exceptions. California is a great example of this.

The not knowing about economics thing is depressing. Seems like grown adults should be able to operate in the real world, but lots of peoples' skills sets/knowledge/independence have been neutered or overly specialized for a particular lifestyle. Once you flee from your home, you have to re-learn everything. But the thing is, the ones willing to adapt, will, and the rest will have to be dragged along kicking and screaming. Sure, I'll help a neighbor out. If someone wants to assimilate, we can aid them on their way. Some people truly cannot help not knowing. Other things will have to be learned through tough love, though. No one is entitled to my time/effort and if someone from Cali expects me to spoonfeed them information they could research themselves, then they can stick it.

Unironically, if seeing this stuff online drains you, just step away. Apologies if I stepped on your toes here. At the same time, my region has been ridiculed since forever and it amuses me to see other people just now experiencing it. Living in a backwards hillbilly swamp with actual rednecks gives you thick skin.
Sorry to derail, but I felt the need to clarify.

I personally would want to apologize for my sudden outburst and derailment on my own thread which really has to be some sort of accomplishment for myself and this forum in particular. I was going through loss at the time of the rant for personal reasons I will not explain here. I'll be retracting my post and maybe put it on a thread of its own though maybe less emotionally driven, I hope. As for your posts, you and a few others are fine. It's just something I see way too many times in various online communities I've been in for a long time. Probably since 2015 maybe.

PS: I will look into more info on the subject in question as I retract my post.

It's fine man, sometimes you just need to blow off some steam. Hope you're doing okay.
But yeah, I think creating a separate thread for this topic would be interesting. Maybe something involving inter-state relations/California exodus/the memetic nature of certain Internet attitudes regarding politics. Jokes like these are ubiquitous (it's the Internet) but sometimes I wonder what would happen if they died out.
I noticed a particular cultural shift around 2015/2016. Granted, I was younger and a lot more ignorant, but it was still palpable. Feel like it coincides with what you're talking about.

Seems like Elon decided to not join the board. Not sure what kind of influence he could wield over the company outside of it, but this appears to be another case of him overselling expectations and under delivering reality.
