Sup guys and ladies, as you all know by this thread I love video game mods. You all know when you play vanilla so many times it'll probably get stale as a loaf of bread left on the table for a couple of hours so you went into the next best thing: Modding. Yes. I'm talking about video game mods, you know when people mod a game it's usually to give the game more life and soul or as you know, turn the model of the protagonist into an anime character or other some dumb shit. There are a lot of mods since the beginning of video game modding back in the day with many variations and types of mods. I'll tell you the types of mods that I know of.

1. Game Improvement mods - When the game has flaws that the devs overlooked, modders will often refine the flaws into an improved version of vanilla. These mods affect the game in a subtle way, such as new quality-of-life additions, bug fixes, graphical improvements, etc. These mods what I call Vanilla+ mods. These mods enhance the overall experience of vanilla without changing the core aspects of the game.

2. Game Additions mods - Players themselves has a playtime limit on how much they'll be able to play vanilla before they get bored and tired of the same shit over and over. Fortunately, to alleviate their boring vanilla playthroughs comes with adding new things that may or may not fit into the game. Such as new characters, new stages, new items, etc. These mods can vary from gameplay, to downright adding in new cutscenes.

3. Total Overhaul Mods - In some cases, the game itself may need a total upgrade from players who have played the game before. These types of mods can be extremely time-consuming to produce, since it requires in-depth knowledge of the game's total mechanical system and reverse-engineering knowledge. On top of all of that, some overhaul mods can be targeted for cuntright troubles, it's thankfully rare to encounter if you keep your overhaul mod secret until it's ready. Overhaul mods enhances the original game in many ways, such as upgrading the graphics and gameplay, a revamped story, new mechanics, new overworld, and so on.

4. Meme mods. They exist for whatever reason. These including replacing the models into their Thomas The Train Engine model or just replacing the music to feature the Soviet Union Anthem and other shit.

Now you obviously know about mods, I want to see your favorite that you made or others have made in their free time. The first mod I made was very recent, but a month old now since I've started.
It's for Risk of Rain 2. It's a dumb music mod that it's totally normal. Believe me.
(It supposed to come out on April Fools day but due to my utter stupidity it's now a month late. -_-)

My favorite modpack is when you make your own, you'll always add in mods you'll like and hate to come up with the perfect modded video game that you'll always return to often. But my other favorite modpack was the one in Minecraft and that is always SkyFactory 4. It's skyblock but with mods to spice it up.

Anyways, again what is your favorite mods or modpack you liked? Anyways, see ya. Gotta play modded Risk of Rain 2 with Jinx mod and other mods that may or may not be very wonky as hell.

X-Piratez:

It's a total conversion for the (original) X-COM where the aliens conquered Earth hundreds of years ago, and now you play as a gang of all-female mutant air-pirates. You fight aliens, cults worshipping aliens, mutants, corrupt corporations, men in black, the demons from Doom, ninjas, and pretty much anything else you can think of.

Never actually played it to the end (there's a lot of content added, to the point where I'd say it's excessive), but I love the setting Dioxine created, plus you can't really go wrong with X-Com.

New Vegas Bounties:

I'd honestly say this is way better than the base campaign for New Vegas. Doesn't really offer a lot of player choice, or agency, but the story's good, the characters are all well written, and the final climax, where you face down the Big Bad Evil Guy is probably one of my favourite moments in gaming. I remember walking back from it, and just wondering to myself if the whole journey was worth it.

I recently started replaying old games, and I noticed System Shock 2 has had a good resurgence of high quality mods lately (as has New Vegas). It's an absolute classic but has always been clunky enough that most people, especially younger people, look back at it with some level of nostalgia or respect but don't actually intend to ever play it.

I can understand that, but at least in the last year or so there has been a lot of big, important developments in the community and while the game may still feel somewhat clunky on the surface, a lot of the more annoying AI and gameplay issues have been ironed out, and I can say with certainty that the game now plays better than it ever has before, with the right mod combination.

Most people who play it, even for the first time, quickly realise that Heavy Weapons and Exotic Weapons are practically useless, Standard is extremely overpowered, half the implants are a waste of time, the enemy AI is somewhat borked sometimes and so it's easy to circlestrafe, the psi powers are wildly inconsistent and half of them are useless while the other half are overpowered, and basically the game feels rushed and unfinished in a lot of ways. Worse, there are a lot of completely broken strategies which basically make the game trivial for veteran players, even on Impossible. Certain psi powers combined with melee, for isntance, just literally obliterates everything easily. So does the Assault Rifle which just blows through everything. I always found that the core gameplay issues held it back from being truly a masterpiece and are all mostly things the community has just accepted and moved on from. Or so I thought.

I have recently been helping out a mod developer fix a lot of these underlying issues and rebalance the game, and even though I have played through and finished it 10 times already in the past, it feels fresh and new and interesting with all the changes, and feels much more tense and interesting because my decisions actually have an impact on the game, I can actually design a build that will be viable with something other than Standard weapons, and I actually need to think about every skill point and use every tool at my disposal to get things done, in what used to be a pretty straightforward game. Old cheese is gone and so now I find myself relying on strategy and thinking about situations rather than mindlessly going through them using the known best solution. In some ways it feels like a major content-patch DLC because all the old useless stuff is now viable, so there's effectively twice as much content, because the old stuff isn't being ignored anymore.

For anyone who is a System Shock 2 veteran, or even if you're just looking to explore it for the first time and want a polished experience, I would recommend playing it now, it's probably in the best state it's been in since release. If you're going to install and play it, I would recommend following this guide. It can also be installed through Linux pretty easily through lutris, you just have to run SS2tool inside the wine prefix or inside proton, which you can do from controls inside Lutris.

I would recommend the following mods:
First, install the standard mod list - These will give you some basic graphics upgrades, and SCP is required for the below mods (it's a good unofficial patch anyway). Skip Rebirth because the models look awful.
Rebalanced Skills and Disciplines - the big balance overhaul I was talking about. Make sure to use the Beta version, since the latest official version is ancient by now.
QBR Breaker - Fix the death spam cheese. I would recommend in addition not using quicksaves and relying exclusively on start-of-deck autosaves, that way death will have meaning.
Scary Monsters - Fix up a lot of the AI issues and enemy jank. Also increases difficulty, but not artificially or intentionally, just a lot of cheese no longer works (like circlestrafing)
Health bar mods - I use the "Vague" version. I find this adds more chaos to fights as there's less predictability. I am less likely to know for certain that my next attack will kill something, so I am less inclined to take cheesy risks and more inclined to play properly. When I do take risks, they are terrifying because I don't know if they are guaranteed to pan out or not.
Alarming Cameras - Make the security aspect of the game actually worthwhile. In vanilla, it's very easy to destroy cameras with no consequences to the point where they really aren't a threat at all and contribute almost nothing to the game.
Repairman - Make the repair skill less useless.
No Keypad Cheese - If you've finished the game before, this will stop you from sequence breaking.
Coloured Laser Rapiers All in One - Nice glows and graphics for the Laser Rapier.
Item Deterioration - Stops the really cheesy tactic of building item piles everywhere for later, which results in resource hoarding and undermines scarcity.
SS2 Randomiser - If you've finished the game before, this should make it more dynamic on repeat playthroughs. This mod isn't finished yet, but is in a pretty good state.

There are also various graphics mods available around the forums. They are optional but some of them I would recommend. Check out this subforum for a list.

New music mod i'm now working on is based around Keygen/Tracker music. I'm calling it The Kickass Keygen/Terrific Tracker Music Mod. This will be a collection of 100 tracker songs from the modarchive with my favorites put in for good measure. This mod will be on Risk of Rain 2, obviously. I am open to all suggestions for you to request any kind of tracker music to be put into the game. Don't worry, this Tracker/Keygen music mod won't come with a free virus obviously lol. This is not in Kazaa or limewire days, those are long gone.

a little different but i like sim racing games and one of the most hevily modded games from that genre is Assetto Corsa, the base game it pretty great, good physics, great engine, but the modding community has turned it into a work of art.

so first is Content Manager, witch is an entirely new launcher, it also comes with CSP (custom shaders patch) that updates the graphics.
SOL is a weather mod that pretty much allows for any scenario. its cool af
there are a near endless amount of car and track mods so i will only highlight my favorites

RSS Formula hybrid 2021
this is undoubtedly one of the greatest mods made for a game ever, built off the regulations of the 2021 F1 season this car isnt based off any one car and is entirely unique.

2005 Ford Transit
why not? despite being kinda a shit post its an extremely high quality mod

in conclusion assetto corsa is one of the best games, you should definitely check it out

Here's a mod I made a while back. It's a mod I'm pretty impressed with myself for making. It's for TTT and it's a traitor or detective item, that means the next item anyone purchases(any role, even expanded roles) gets given to everyone on the server. As a result, you get to see pretty chaotic and wild uses of a wide range of the various TTT traitor and detective items. I thought it was a great item, but I think it probably only really works well among a group of friends. Among a lot of strangers online I imagine it'd lead to RDM and meta-focused players who want to win. Still it was a lot of fun

So, eh... mods. I do them, yes. Quite constanly. Not sure if it can be called your usual mods - my hands are growing out of my butt, apparently, so I usually do not do textures or models. Ocassionaly I find someone who draws a texture for me an I use that, but in general - I'm on the coding side of the things. Being proficient with hex and a knowing a bit of programming and debugging, I'm doing memory edits, save edits and, well, various file edits on ocassion.

Overall, I fall into the first category. I do not do big mods - rather I fix bugs, improve some particular points, access inaccessible content (all your Kickstarter pre-order DLC are belong to us) and squeeze as much as possible out of existing functions of the game.

Here's a good example of bug-fixing:

My magnum opus at this point would be this video:

It might not look particularly impressive, but consider this: with the games above (except Blade Of Darkness) you cannot do much more. To replace textures or models the game has to be disassembled and re-assembled. Popular games usually get this kind of support. The games I mod? Usually memory editing is pretty much the only way. Specifically, on consoles. It's a good thing when we have emulators, but in the videos above I introduce mods directly on XBox 360 and PS3 - and consoles are a medium which is quite resistant to any kind of changes.

So... yea. That's what I do. Out of more classic mods - I do not have many examples. But, well, here's one: https://www.gtainside.com/en/gta4/bikes/90729-quickfix-bikes

Still, that is more of an exception. Usually I'm in the code.
