I used to imagine what a world without 9/11 would've been like.
Then I realized that, after all the psyops and laws and social and economic changes of the 20th century, America was truly fucked in the 21st century, with or without 9/11. If 9/11 didn't destroy the "end of history" era of optimism, the Recession and Occupy Wall Street would've. there was absolutely NO POSSIBLE WAY for the 90s economy and culture to survive all the way until 2024. A LOT of the issues we face today were issues that already existed in the 90s with their seeds already planted and only weren't noticeable until very recently, such as stagnant wages since the 70s or the sexual revolution.

The 9/11 timeline, like Weimar Germany, might indirectly actually be the better timeline in the long term. It's better to have a society that decays and collapses faster, so you have more people with nothing to lose who have had enough of being fucked and would actually start questioning things, take action and revolt. It's the 9/11 timeline that made way for the massive surge in dissident movements and people questioning things and noticing what's going on in the world around them that we wouldn't have had if things were still "good". Without 9'11 we would've still continued to live in a bubble, things would've decayed at a much slower pace, nobody would've cared, and there would've been much less pushback. The US hegemony policing of the west and the disease of liberal democracy would've continued, thus Europe and the western world would've continued being US vassal states.

Now, with things collapsing very quickly, there is a chance for US hegemony to end, for liberal democracy to finally die and get replaced with something better, for the western nations to have a better chance of being free of US control, etc. and there might be a lot more things that could happen with 9/11 as a butterfly effect. A fast collapse is always better than a slow collapse, so embrace it.

I think a 9/11-esque thing was guaranteed to happen, like the shooting of Franz Ferdinand.

Anyway, I still don't think any of those would be causes, but rather symptoms of the rat utopia in its ebbing stages.
