Hey y'all! Sorry for my absence lately, been busy with real life stuff. Hopefully I can get back to these weekly threads. Anyways:

Googie and Lounge Revival (c. early to late 1990s)

The Googie and Lounge Revival was a niche aesthetic from the '90s that was heavily inspired by 1950s and '60s cocktail culture. It was popular in family entertainment venues, movies, and the Third Wave Ska scene. Lots of tiki imagery, neon signs, and pastel colors.

This aesthetic reminds me a lot of watching Boomerang as a kid in the early 2000s, and my parents had a friend who was SUPER into this look so he constantly dressed in bowling shirts and drank martinis hahaha

I was thinking to myself not too long ago about how Tikis had a resurgence in the 90s. Couldn't remember if it actually happened but this thread has reassured me it did. Always appreciate these threads.

edit: and damn that album by Lit was terrible. Totally forgot about that shit.

Lounge as a music genre also pretty much fits this aesthetic. Think St. Germain, Thievery Corporation, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Jazzanova, Gare du Nord, dZihan & Kamiel, Candi Dulfer and ofc. the one and only Kenny G.
