• I added an agora current events board to contain discussions of political and current events to that category. This was due to a increase support for a separate board for political talk.

Due to many incidents of thread topics being posted multiple times I would like to make a post about a beautiful feature that allows you to circumvent crawling around the web that is the thread system of the road.

The search bar!

The search bar is located at the top of your screen right below your browsers display it.

Look before you post! If you think of an idea, we would gladly welcome discussion of it on the forum. But if we continually create new threads about the same topics the old ones become abandoned or worse the conversations becomes split and divided. In order to keep a more active and abundant forum full of discussion keeping the thread count down is a great way to keep users engaging with one another.

By clicking the filters button we can open a new screen that allows you to launch a better filter and search.

Included is a search by member function which allows you to search posts by user:

At the bottom right of the extended search bar you will see a G button. (DO NOT PRESS THIS WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT WILL DO)

Thank ya'll and have a blessed day!

Alternately, ask Some_porcupine to help look with you. If it exists, doesn't matter if it's easily visible in search or is hidden away on the 3rd plane of Saturn, he will find it.

Note: probably only do that if Some_porcupine doesn't mind and you genuinely can't find it

I tried that once. The more effective method is to make the thread and wait for him to post what it's a dupe of. Very classic internet usage, post the thing you think is wrong and wait to be corrected, instead of asking directly if it's wrong!

You can filter by thread/forum. You can also filter out profile posts and search in initial posts only.
You could instead append "site:agoraroad.com" to your search engine search for utilisation of the search engine. (More information).

This is a good thread and more people should be using the forum search before they post, but the search itself leaves a lot to be desired. Any word shorter than three letters in the query is ignored ("cat thread" becomes "thread," for instance), and instead of defaulting to the actual contents of forum posts it also includes profile posts, media items, thread tags, thread titles, etc. all mixed together. It's not very intuitive and the Google-based alternative search doesn't really improve on it. I don't know enough about Xenforo to say whether there are better search plugins out there, but I remember @IlluminatiPirate saying there weren't the last time the topic was brought up.
One thing that does help is checking the "search titles only" box, but that then forces you to remember the title of a thread you're looking for. The last time I had to find a thread I resorted to flipping through the catalog until I found it because the OP named it something that wasn't obvious.

Search is very hard to implement effectively. I don't know the ins and outs of this site but I wonder if they even have backend control. If so I would love to implement my own search ALGO. Hell we could even make it a competition.
