• I added an agora current events board to contain discussions of political and current events to that category. This was due to a increase support for a separate board for political talk.

If you knew, 100%, that your life was scripted what would that change?

Changes:

  • Nothing

  • Everything

  • A lil something something

  • You're a weird guy, Ace

Really ponder this at depth.

For example, it could be that you are walking along the strip and bump into a stranger you have never met who tells you, in precise detail with no Barnum statements, about your lineage, upbringing and various other bits and pieces along with a couple of tells of what will come next and these things do manifest. You never see this person again. No video proofs or anything else. Just a one on one conversation. You are now gifted with the wisdom of which most are entirely ignorant and that is your life is scripted.

What do you do next? Lets pretend this happened to you all, reading, and we all meet here to discuss the event. Your internal realms and reaction says...

Jokes on Mr. Barnum, I already knew it was scripted from the start!

...But really, what glimpses of the future do I get? Do they suck? Do I at least get winning lottery numbers? If I don't learn anything substantial and it's all just one random dude coming in telling me my life story and then screwing off, I'd probably just forget the whole thing unless somebody else ran into him. If he told me I was gonna get cancer and I did... well... great. That was a jerk move. But more likely I just wouldn't bother thinking much of it beyond "wow, that dude's a weirdo." There's just not much point.

...That said though, if he's telling me bits of the future to prove he knows my entire state of being, does me knowing potentially change the future to its intended value? Does the future depend on this guy telling me my life is scripted, and will go off-kilter if I'm not told? I feel like if this happened in real life he wouldn't tell me much of anything because I'd be too busy asking him stupid questions.

How does this even work when we have free will? Right now I have billions of things/choices I could do. I could continue typing this, or I could stand up, rip my shirt off and run away screaming something in a tribal, long forgotten language from the 1600's. The amount of things I could do that differ from normal to strangely specific at this moment is astronomical. I could not even post this if I chose not to.
If my life was scripted then free will wouldn't exist.

But, giving u the benefit of the doubt and assuming my life was scripted and that the scripter of my life has thought of every result to a possible outcome- I would change nothing. Most of the bad stuff that has happened in my life, happened for a reason and it taught me something that was extremely valuable for my wellbeing.

If I eliminated all the bad stuff, what next? I would never be able to enjoy happiness without understanding the feeling of being sad.

Ill sue the scriptwriter.

In all seriousness not much, since this is what I already believe.

Or do I?

Heres the thing. Free will might be an illusion. You might think that you are taking decisions out of your free will, but in reality they are scripted from the start, just like the feeling that you are making those decisions.

In a more superficial note, I think there have been experiments in which one could predict what decisions people would make by studying their neural patterns, but I lack the data to support this.

Nothing, just go on with my life. After all, what can you really do in this hypothetical scenario?
If you lean for a fact that your life is scripted you can either, ignore it and continue with living as you did or fall down a rabbit hole of a thought process. In the end both choices would be just part of the script, therefore your choice to act on this knowledge would be pretty much meaningless.

This somewhat reminds me of "The Stanley Parable".

I would strive to be more familiar with the role I'm playing and embrace it. But that's just what I think now, just this would give me 100% confirmation.
