I mentioned this in the Naglo thread, but I'll mention it here as well. I played around with a similar idea a couple months ago and made a proof of concept (download link here).
That teaser was really fucking good. I liked the little loop when denying the patch, flavorfull illusion of choice.

@Kolph

This looks like a decent program http://tyranobuilder.com/

We could use the video game assets for this instead.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofgblrof4wE

We need a way to organize the ideas and pictures... or we just start at page 1 and build from their one page at a time.

Here are some character ideas / stories.. https://bocachulastudios.com/team/

Could also use the premise from https://nagolbud.com/arcade from "Escape from Paradise Valley".

Essentially 3 bro's escape a small city and it ends with them going in a trap door to a secret underground thing that runs outside the cities lines. Could pick up THIS story from there and the 3 bro's encounter all these weird characters and make friends along the way. Then end it with them leaving the tunnel... and perhaps coming out at L@ins city for the 2nd book of the visual novel.

Kind of like those old goosebumps books where there are several paths you can take but the ending is the same no matter what. In "Escape from Paradise Valley" there are a hundred ways to die as you try and navigate the "novel" without dying and having to restart. Every play through is a little different sorta say and maybe some hidden characters along the way.

I'm literally using Tyrano haha

You already buy it? What is the easiest way to give you content to add it in? We need to setup the story I guess first. Did you ever play my "Escape from Paradise Valley"? Have you ever read a Goosebumps book? (Might be too old for you)
Had it for few months lol. Uh just jpegs and pngs really. Backgrounds, character sprite sheets, etc. I want to create something that doesn't take itself too seriously btw, if you've ever seen The Amazing World of Gumball, I want a cast like that (essentially different art styles and unique character designs), but an endearing storyline at the same time.

I imagine him like towly from south park. Except he smokes weed and talks about conspiracy theories that may or may not related to the in game commentary at the time.
I want him to be like Tweek from South Park. The cast bullies him but he can hold his own well and everyone secretly thinks he is a cool guy.

You should do a quick play through of Escape from Paradise Valley if you've never heard of Goosebumps books. Essentially they're several stories within one story and your decisions chance the story itself. See if you'd wanna use it as a place to pick up the story. We could finalize the first chapter, put it on my website, and then direct people to the steam page once its finished. From there we would have our proof of concept and people would be able to contribute more easily once they understand the style and story line to a degree. Organization is the key to a project like this and just getting something on paper to build off of.
That sounds cool but tbh I'm going for something for along the comedy route with this, still a storyline but like I said something that doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm considering each chapter being a parody of different genres of the VN genre and how the characters interact with it, to be as corny as possible it's set in a college too (not highschool as though a lot of VNs take place in high school, complications come in if certain characters are under 18, especially if I parody the Dating Sim genre in it).

I think we have enough creativity to just create our own shit. Really wouldn't even need to parody things when we could create our own road and our own style of humor. IMO
I just really want to create something with as much creative freedom and silliness as possible, I feel it would be fun and I'll be able to incorporate a lot of talents into it.

I agree. That's why parodies kind of limit you.. it puts your creativity in a box to match the parody.. instead I think we could just create our entire story on its own and include the creativity and humor along the way. There needs to be a goal or objective for the characters, a place they need to get, a thing they need to stop or start.

There also has to be a foundation of a story for people to at least follow somewhat... or it will just be a mess of random stories and plots with no real objective. Confusion isn't fun IMO.

We have to tell a story of creativity and humor.. something relatable and playable.
Hmm yeah that is a good point. What if it is like Drawn Together and it's a reality show but features characters from different genres and how they interact with each other, as the host of the show tries hard to make shit interesting.

PROOF OF CONCEPT
Alright, I've been doing some serious brainstorming (well had this idea in the last two hours but hear me out) and this is an idea I really like, and I want to share it.
37796.jpg

So, I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the show Drawn Together but essentially it was a really edgy comedy cartoon that ran in the 2000s about different genres of cartoon characters living together in a reality show. It was gross, crude, and downright insulting at times, but also worked as a commentary of the state of current adult cartoons and the reality show genre in general (though to a smaller extent). As a concept it was great as it allowed a lot of creative freedom and unique interactions among the characters, and I was thinking, "Why not do something similar, though be it way less edgy, with the visual novel genre?" Not only can it be a fun way to parody the genre but also criticize the current state of reality shows and how they really do not care about the contestants, for an example over here in the UK we have a show called Love Island and three people have commit suicide after they have been on it, yet it still airs. I feel I could create something that's funny, insightful, and very different with this concept, and I'd like to know go over the character ideas for it too.

Characters

Ok, so I really have not fleshed out any characters at all yet but essentially I'm thinking 10 characters from different genres, split gender ratio of boys and girls, a gender neutral protagonist (hopefully can make a feature where characters refer to you by name), and the producer.

You, the protagonist - As they represent you there will be little character behind your player, though you will interact with the other characters of course. Essentially, you're a nobody who has won a competition to be on the show and be with the contestants. You will struggle to fit in but they eventualy accept you and I'd like it so maybe there is freetime events like Danganronpa which though do not affect the story do help you learn about certain characters even more deeply if you choose so, especially good for getting to know the characters that get voted off early on like on reality shows. I'll make a list of what I have in mind and explain the characters that I feel need some extra clarification

Trianglehead (Joke VNs) - Trianglehead represents a joke character which appear in many VNs. He is odd looking, small, a bit stupid, but somewhat charming. He will contrast greatly from most of the other characters in design but that's what will make him so unique and interesting.

Bartender (Yaoi VNs) - Yes, I think I should include a character like this. These sort of visual novels are very popular so fuck it, might help sales.

Elf Girl (Fantasy VNs)

Cyberpunk Dude or woman (Sci-fi VNs)

Retro College Girl (90s PC Dating Sim VNs) -
I want to present her as being 16 bit, I think that would really cool

Ghost Woman (Horror VNs)

Erotic Girl (Ecchi VNs)

Detective (Mystery/Crime VNs) -
Imagine a character like the one from Snatcher.

( Can't decide on the last male and female character so help me here)

Producer - I want him to look exactly like the producer from Drawn Together as a reference. He pulls the strings pretty much.

Tell me what you guys think so far, would like your opinions and ideas.

More if I can get the game onto Steam man lmao. That platform is more receptive to pornography than the slightest bit of politically incorrect humour.

True , you'll have some of the most degenerate incest, gore, loli shit on steam ,so you should use itch.io or another file sharing website.

I'll keep it all at reasonable level and try to push boundaries where I can, doubt I'll bump into many problems.

I've got years of experience skirting the boundaries and could easily help you out in that department. I was thinking more about game development and ideas like this and I think with my experience I would be better helping from a publisher stand point under Boca Chula Studios rather than a development standpoint. Looking at other peoples games like @Rik-Disillusioned I could do a lot to help a game reach its full potential through advice, organization, marketing, and generating community gossip about the game to bring in more sales. Using all the techniques I've acquired over the years trolling the system its second nature to me at this point and although I spent most of my time on the wrong side of the line it'd be easy to walk back over to help generate some profits through Steam.
Yeah I'd appreciate that, got a shitty exam I gotta do by next week but after all of them are done I should have time to give this my full focus.
