My Pick is E2-E4 By Manuel Gotstsching. It's more of a berlin school album but i find it strongly resembling some of the 90s idm asthetics despite it being relased in the 80s

It's neither intelligent nor you can dance to it. But it's certainly music.

Anyway, I was very into it when I was younger, but you grow out of it pretty quick when you realize most of it is wank. But I still appreciate some stuff:

I like Boards of Canada quite a lot too, but I'm only naming them because they tend to be slapped with the IDM tag (due to association with the Bleep/Warp record labels) even though their output is nothing alike the usual IDM sound. Ultimately it's a very poorly defined genre where very different sounding artists get thrown into it.

What makes it "intelligent" exactly?
There was a compilation of music put out called "Artificial Intelligence" (can't remember who by) that included some of the early artists that would be put under IDM. There's some other stuff that happened after, but that's basically it. The DM part of it is questionable too, but that mostly comes from its roots.

Edit: Here's the album, if anyone is interested:

Boards of Canada is good, I like Aphex Twin too. IDK if Brian Eno counts more as ambient but I think some of his songs verge on IDM. Liquid DnB artists like Peshay also come to mind for me.
I wanted to start listening to Brian Eno. Could you recommend anything from him?

Isn't 'the dice man' also the first track on Surfing on Sine Waves?
