Vaporwave is the embodiment of meaningless garbage forced on you by others? Or it gives you those vibes? Or the opposite vibes?

Personally, the following is some of my favorite vaporwave/vaporwave offshoot. Its not exactly traditional vaporwave, but it is recognized as an important piece of the vaporwave genre and community.

The following thread is a really good place to start if you haven't experienced vaporwave before and is actually what got me really into vaporwave and helped me find Blank Banshee.

Care to tell us that story?
was mostly making a dry joke about the internet consisting of a packet switching network - I actually found the site when searching about how sterile and sanitized the current net feels / frequency of bots nowadays and enjoyed the smaller amount of people here.

I am digging "Frozen Flame"

It simultaneously reminds me of dropping acid and the underwater levels of Donkey Kong Country. The good part of dropping acid I should say.

Hello friends good evening :)

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

I can't really think of one that describes my life, but I watched a good bit of the show Soap last year and thought it was hilarious. A lot of parodies (Soap is a parody of cookie cutter 70s soap operas) get really one dimensional because they're constrained by what they're parodying, but the writers do a really good job of keeping it fresh and the actors are all top class.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

It seems like a vestige of the old internet. I wasn't really on "the old internet" so take that with a grain of salt.

What subgenres are you most into?

In terms of music I've been really into Outlaw Country lately (I am a victim of the Dolly Parton -> Johnny Cash -> Waylon Jennings pipeline) and was on a Punk tear before that (Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, Gang of Four).

How did you find out about this place?

I do not remember when I first started lurking here, but I got really pulled into a thread about internet radio stations. I joined up because I found a lot of great places to find new music on there.

What do you do for fun?

I enjoy reading and writing. I'm currently reading Dante's The Divine Comedy and have been really enjoying it :)
I would like to read more history, embarrassingly enough because I read The Lord of the Rings earlier last year and was enthralled by the sense of how "lived in" that world felt - made me realize I wasn't properly examining the world I was living in lol.
I need to practice my writing more - I kick out a short story every now and then.

:bluehello: everyone!

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
None. My life is too boring to be a sitcom.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
Good music to chill. Very cool and nostalgic aesthetics, fells like going back to old internet/media (even though I was just a little child back then).

What subgenres are you most into?
Of vaporwave? IDK, I just listen whatever Youtube recommends me.

How did you find out about this place?
In another forum.

What do you do for fun?
Play vidya, watch movies, browse internet finding something interesting or funny, read sometimes.

Welcome! Epic to have another writer here. What sort of short stories do you write about? Lord of the Rings is great, but probably underrated among critics. I think it's one of yhe few pieces I can think of that breaches the gap between pop culture and high art

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
Idk i dont actually really like/watch sitcoms
What does Vaporwave mean to you?
Whilst its both an aesthetic and music genre, to me personally its also like a portal into the past and dead medias. Vaporwave for me at least feels almost otherworldly as a whole, nostalgia i never got to experience at best
What subgenres are you most into?
I like all of them i would say but i mostly really dig Mallsoft, Drift, Classic of course, Slush, and Barber. But i like and listen to all genres frequently. Apologies if i got any names wrong lol
How did you find out about this place?
Not sure actually, i think i either heard it in passing or i found it while web surfing
What do you do for fun?
Does listening to music count? I enjoy image posting/scrolling as well. Maybe editing too, although im not good at it lol.

Introduce yourself: here are some prompts:

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

What subgenres are you most into?

How did you find out about this place?

What do you do for fun?

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

I dunno I don't really watch TV that much.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

At it's most general, I think its nostalgia at the core. But nostalgia is a really fascinating phenomenon, which I think just gets simplified to warm feelings about childhood. I might write more about it, but it's far more connected to every day activity than I think most people give it credit for.

What subgenres are you most into?

The common trend I can track in music I actively listen to (I try to listen to nearly every kind of music, but I only stick through with a few) is that it's slow, and reliant on texture. Ambient is probably my most listened to genre, and it's what I actively make myself. Other than that 90s slowcore, experimental noise stuff, and occasionally more normal indie is what I'm usually listening to.

How did you find out about this place?

I used to lurk lainchan a lot pre-pandemic, and recently found out about heyuri, which I was browsing for a while (not really my thing, personally) and someone mentioned this website. I just like slow internet, and small communities that actually create content, as opposed to the consumption and outrage generation of popular platforms.

What do you do for fun?

Mostly make music! I don't know if I can shill my stuff but here's some deathdream esque ambient I made a while ago that blew up (I made a whole 25 dollars from streaming and sales!!!! :D). I'm currently working on my next album, which I'm being patient with. All craftsmanship will be of the highest quality :^)

Recently I've started getting into film photography, and other than that I just learn computer and math stuff for more rigorous study. I also learned Japanese via the refold method for about 2-3 years before giving up (was able to read twitter/manga and watch yt pretty fluently though at my peak!)

As a project, I'm working on making my introductions unnecessary.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
It's a dying, echoing triumph of the uncannily familiar. The music takes you to places you think you've been to, but you can't recall when.

What subgenres are you most into?
I'm a varied listener, most would be somewhere around jazzy electronica. From vapor subbranch, barber beats are worth a mention. From artists, George Clanton was my daily escape for quite some time.

How did you find out about this place?
I was googling around for info about bizonacci, stumbled upon a post here and got sucked in

New here. Lurked for a while and figured it was about time I chimed in. It's refreshing to see a place where open discussion is still very alive.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
I don't watch many movies or shows. I have an especially hard time with sitcoms. It's difficult to tune out the fact that these are actors reading from a script on a set. That door doesn't go anywhere. That car isn't moving. The laughs are canned and prompted. Characters, one dimensional. Storylines, contrived and predictable.

That said, there's a level of relatability written into scripts that put the situation in situational comedy. For that reason, Seinfeld stands out as a winner due to it's hyperfocus on benign situations turned into something greater.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

Hard to say. With more "traditional" Vaporwave, there's a definite sense of familiarity and hazy nostalgia. Not a genuine nostalgia, rather one of a past that never actually existed.

I discovered Vaporwave through Smash TV, then the Artzie Music and ElfamosoDemon YouTube channel back around 2012/2013. This seems to be the tail end of when the YouTube algorithm based suggestions on what it thought you might like instead of what it wanted you to like (this is a while topic in and of itself).

What subgenres are you most into?

Future Funk and whatever you'd classify Flamingosis as. The Vaporwave umbrella seems to transcend so many different styles and sounds but generally, I just like fun and uplifting, high energy music.

I think it's perfectly normal for people to turn to music that fits their mood when the going gets rough and they're angry, upset, heartbroken, depressed, etc. But personally, I prefer throw in something funky to pull myself out of a funk.

What do you do for fun?

Cars. Wrenching, restoring, driving. I own a fleet of shitboxes that require constant tending to. It not for everyone, but I enjoy it... Usually.

Hello everyone! You can call me Sam.

1) What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
I never watched that much TV, so I don't know a lot of sitcoms, but the closest guess for me would probably be the big bang theory, because I'm a huge nerd when it comes to topics I am interested in

2) What does Vaporwave mean to you?
when I discovered Vaporwave, it was mostly just an aesthetic and music direction for me, but I see it as a form of art nowadays

3) What subgenres are you most into?
Source Games, mostly Half Life and Team Fortress, but also Boomer Shooters in general

4) How did you find out about this place?
I heard about it in a discussion, checked it out and wanted to stay

5) What do you do for fun?
I play a bunch of videogames, sometimes I program, sometimes I animate, sometimes I make music in FL Studio. Really depends on my mood that day.

Hi.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
Fawlty Towers, because It's one I have actually watched.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
It's that descriptor that I have recently realised many of the bands I was into in the 2010s fit into. We live in a time where it seems like movements are commoditized so quickly, that they are over before they even began. It seems Vaporwave broke that cycle by being irrelevant from the get-go. Also, to me, perfectly incapsulating that familiar sense of dread I get from walking through supermarkets and shopping malls or listening to mass-produced pop music. At the same time fuelling my fascination with the final years of the analogue age. Western culture is stuck, and vaporwave has made the most of it. In constant decline, anything before the present will look favourable.

What subgenres are you most into?
Used to be really into Future Funk and synth-based stuff like Windows 96 or George Clanton (Esprit). Now I'm rediscovering the more sample oriented classics.
Outside of Vaporwave, although directly adjacent, I thoroughly enjoy old anime (the good stuff, Ideon, Harlock & the like). The stuff that doesn't appeal to the normal anime demographic and fails to get any attention from those who would really enjoy it, for being associated with the weeb sphere.

How did you find out about this place?
I saw an Ad on /lit/ sometime in 2021 calling it "the internet's best kept secret" and thought, "Why am I clicking on this? It's probably just some Scam site." - luckily not.
What do you do for fun?
Mostly reading classic literature, going for long walks. Drawing outside and writing (allthough the latter tends toward the schizo). Love exploring nature and historical places, hearing people's stories.

Nice to meetcha!

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

Probably the Oblongs, as it's as as wacky and insane as my family life is.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

A fun, pretentious culture that stinks of anti-corporate sentiment. Bundle that with lots of nostalgia and atmospheric, dream-like music.
It completely encapsulates that feeling you get riding the elevator, standing for hours in line in a bleak office building, and more.
It's fun.

What subgenres are you most into?

I dip my fingers into lots of Digital Ethnography, so I'm always drifting to new communities to see what they're about.
I just love learning about the places and the people that surround them.
I was big into Vaporwave as it kicked off and well into it's death, and continue to enjoy the offshoots of it that managed to stick around and permeate.
Stuff like Neo-grunge and Y2K are interesting to me I guess, but only interesting enough that I view from an outsiders perspective.

How did you find out about this place?

Saw the name mentioned in one of those keyword collection websites. Y'know the ones; You copy and paste something you're looking for into Google and you find a sketchy website with malware warnings that is just pages upon pages of random strings of words (You can find a lot of interesting things on those pages.). "Agora Road" stuck out to me and I decided to give it a quick search, and found this place. Seems interesting, hoping to stick around, at least for a little bit.
Seems like a place I'd natural stumble upon, though. Many overlapping interests.

What do you do for fun?

Hiking is a pretty fun past-time for me, that and exploring nature in general.
Lots of reading, random shit. Anything from science articles to long philosophical manifestos.
Video Games, love abstract and surreal shit. Bought Disillusion because it seems right up my alley.
I draw sometimes to, and fuck around with AI sometimes.
