Welcome! What's your favorite citypop album?
oh hello I didn't imagine someone responding hahaha. Well citypop albums as such because there are few that I have heard, I tend to listen to more compilations. Some albums that I listened to a long time ago were: Full Moon by Junko Yagami, a true classic and Magical by Junko Ohashi

What a time to be alive. I never thought I'd see the day where a website like this would one day pop up into existence. But so far, I can safetly say that as a retrowave and a vaporwave nerd, I am hooked.

I am an oddball, because I like a lot of odd hobbies and interests that many people in the modern world wide web would consider obsolete or out of touch. I say nay! These things never go out of touch; only we.

I am also a philosopher because I often like to think about how to deal with life's conflicts and how to solve them using logic and wisdom. As I quote, "Life is a journey of self discovery. The end of adolescence does not signal the end of life, but merely the beginning of it."

And I love old school stuff, any kind of stuff from the 20th century. It's just such a fascinating time in mankind's technological history; a modern renaissance of sorts.

I own a cassette tape collection, a walkman, a portable dvd player, a record player, among other old school.

Old school is the new school!

Hello friends, a new fren is coming your way
feel free to message me if you feel like chatting

What canceled sitcom best describes your life?
I don't really watch TV that much, I saw Mr. Robot and I loved it, I'm convinced it's the best show ever made (even tho I only watched 2 other shows :p)I watch movies sometimes,

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
I think it's neat

What subgenres are you most into?
I'm in love with Cyberpunk, the whole genre, the aesthetics, everything about it.

How did you find out about this place?
Using a cool search engine called Marginalia, it is a "search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed."

What do you do for fun?
I like programming, messing around with computers, anything that uses electricity.

Introduce yourself:
I'm just a working-class schmuck from New York who codes for a living, writes terrible sf, and builds his own website with shell scripts and a makefile. I got my username from an old Judas Priest song from the 1970s.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
I can't think of one, I haven't watched a sitcom since the early 1990s, and I suspect that I at least subconsciously made my wife so that it wouldn't resemble a sitcom. I'm just glad that it doesn't resemble Get A Life.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
Not much. I keep hearing about it, and it seems to involve nostaliga for the mid-1990s on the part of people who didn't live through them, so it doesn't really appeal to me. But every once in a while I try some of the music.

What subgenres are you most into?
traditional heavy metal, NWOBHM, speed metal, thrash metal, doom metal, power metal, progressive metal, symphoninc metal, technical death metal

These are my most recently played albums:
  1. Albert Bouchard: Imaginos III: the Mutant Reformation
  2. Wytch Hazel: IV: Sacrament
  3. Clutch: Sunrise on Slaughter Beach
  4. Paradise Lost: Draconian Times
  5. Black Sabbath: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  6. Tanith: Voyage
  7. Satan: Cruel Magic
  8. The Protomen: Act II: The Father of Death
  9. John Carpenter: Lost Themes
  10. Anubis Gate: Interference
Oh, wait. you're still asking about vaporwave?

How did you find out about this place?
Been lurking a while. I used to have a couple of black cats named Huginn and Muninn, and one of them dragged in the URL.

What do you do for fun?
I read, I play the violin, bass guitar, and piano (all poorly), I write terrible science fantasy that would basically be fanfic if I had used existing characters and settings, I lift weights, and I sometimes chill with a video game if I'm too tired to do anything more intellectually stimulating. I'm basically a college dropout with delusions of erudition, and it shows on my website -- which I built with shell scripts and a makefile because I just had to create my own static site generator instead of figuring out how to use Hugo or figuring out how to make a Ruby and Jekyll setup work consistently on macOS and GNU/Linux.

I am not a sensible person. Consider this fair warning.

I'm bored of how small the internet feels currently, so I've started avoiding the big five. I miss that feeling you used to have of wild discovery and adventure when browsing online.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
Somehow, most sitcoms I've watched haven't been cancelled. I'd say Seinfeld for one that wasn't cancelled, Freaks and Geeks for one that was. I'm still mad about that one.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
Warm summer nights, driving through the city on boundless free time. It reminds me of an alternate present where 80s aesthetics persist into the modern day, technological advancements and all.

What subgenres are you most into?
I'm not very knowledgeable about different subgenres within Vaporwave, but I saw someone else in the thread mention Citypop which is a genre I adore.

How did you find out about this place?
Dead Internet Theory, like most people. I'd felt something was off about the current state of the internet, so I searched for others who had the same experience and found this place. Lurked for a while and decided to finally bite the bullet since I like the cozy feeling of forums, and this one is among the coziest in my opinion.

What do you do for fun?
Beyond the usual of watching movies or anime? I try to find weird websites online, or I sew. I also like walking around aimlessly and researching the history of places I find. Discovering a new outdoor reading spot is always nice. I've been wanting to get into techwiz stuff but I'm dumb so it'll take a while.

The sitcom question is a weird question. I think a good chunk of people around here don't care about sitcoms, and for those who do we probably haven't watched cancelled sitcoms. Are sitcoms known for being cancelled? The only sitcom I've ever cared about is The Middle, and that one had a looong run, aren't most sitcoms like that?

Also, welcome!

"I'm a business major, that means I know major amounts of business." - Axel. The Middle was the best sitcom ever.
Lmao, I stopped watching around Axel's college arc, but I remember how comfy it was. And surprisingly free of globohomo stuff, despite being made by abc

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

I actually have no idea, sitcoms are not really popular in my country and I've never been much of a fan

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

I used to really like Vaporwave a couple of years ago but I grew kinda tired of it, however, it kinda influenced my taste in music today, so I'm grateful for it

What subgenres are you most into?

It kinda depends on the moment I'm going through, but I'm really into 70s disco, 70s and 80s funk, acid jazz, post-punk, prog rock, dream pop and alt/indie rock

How did you find out about this place?

I can't remember it now, I usually have many open tabs with things I find around the internet and save it to see later, but I probably heard about here in a imageboard os something

What do you do for fun?

I mostly play bass when I'm home, but when i have some free time from college I play some single player games, watch movies and anime, and read books and manga.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
This isn't a sitcom and I know it's corny but I have to say Evangelion. I've been going thru a lot for the past few months and Evangelion was able to express my feelings in a way I was unable to.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
It's my entire life, along with art in general. I'm in the process of researching for a scholarly project I'm working on in the meantime; I want to completely document - to the best of my ability - the Vaporwave scene for posterity and I want to do a huge media analysis of the genre and the artists [please send me anything you think may help if you're interested :)]

What subgenres are you most into?
Right now I've been listening to a lot of Late Nite Lo-fi and Classical Vapor. I'm a big fan of Barber Beats as well (even though it's pretty reactionary, unfortunately) and I want to do a deep dive into Signalwave in the near future.

How did you find out about this place?
On R*ddit :/

What do you do for fun?
I like to watch movies and listen to albums, I like to read and consider myself a lifelong student since I have an autistic obsession with learning, I'm a vocalist and perform in my University's choir but I've also done some compositions and have begun producing my own music, I like to hang out with my lovely fiancé and I also like to do lots and lots and lots of drugs.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
is sitcom still a word, is it in dictionaries? when I was a kid at public events like graduations or tours or somethings, I used to fantasize that a swarm of supernatural bad guys would like, burst through the ceiling or a window and my secret powers would spontaneously awaken, and I'd beat em and save everyone, and everyone would see how great I was in times of need, and be amazed by my excellence and appreciate me. Peep Show never cancelled, it concluded, but the cringecore intimacy would cut awfully deep at times.

What does How did you find out about Vaporwave mean to you?
in my early 20s, 2014ish, I overheard a teenage girl on a public bus recommend her friend "macintosh plus" and "supersex 420". looked them up on youtube cuz the names sounded funny and never looked back. been addicted to Telan Devik - Mods for years.

What subgenres are you most into?
I don't really attend to that much, don't differentiate much. just zoom in on specific artists or songs, but I used to live with a girl who would blast future funk while professionally drawing pictures. happy memories.

How did you find out about What does this place mean to you?
disillusioned genx-millenials (firsthand consumer internet pioneers at special psychological developmental stage - "remembering blockbuster" has become a meme at the rare parties I attend, but touches on something vaporwavey to me) anonymous meetings soothe my schizoid-withdrawal periods. like the chan beforetimes there's a sense of solace here.

What do you do for fun?
oh man that new zelda game was so rad. working on a book to self publish. should draw more.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
I don't watch television... but if you were to press me any further I'd answer Malcolm in the Middle and Married... with Children as those I feel a connection with.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
I think of it as a callback to an era of free expression, when the nascent internet felt so vast and untamed, yet quaint. When things were, quite frankly, a lot cooler, though don't mistake me for one waxed in nostalgia, the internet's a library with plenty to offer. Back to my point, when the internet was smaller and personalised, when everyone tried to be cutting-edge until homogenising before the masses. When you felt you had achieved something worth your time after a series of clicks. And most importantly, one in which all powers that be weren't conspiring to make you miserable.

As for the music... it's relaxing.

What subgenres are you most into?
For 'conventional' vaporwave, I enjoy haircuts for men. I don't really think in genres, at least not that's outright obvious or broad in scope. I enjoy electronic music in general, especially synthwave.

How did you find out about this place?
Not quite sure, I remember coming across this place in my various wanderings through the internet. I was enamoured by the civil discussion across various fields expressed here that aren't debased by the idiocy frequent in other popular centres of discussion. The atmosphere is pleasant, I'm not sickened by the smothering of my senses in larger, more sterile forums, nor beleaguered by the misery and bile that which is expressed on ostensibly "free" centres such as 4chan. I decided to stop by as a fellow traveller to express my gratitude to such a project.

What do you do for fun?
What does a young man do for fun? I like to read, write, play games, watch movies, drive my car, appreciate the beauty of the arts and crafts, the finer things in life. There's plenty more to list, but for the sake of brevity I'll leave it at that. I inherit much of my interests from my father. Did I mention I love cats, especially big ones?

i too found out about this place from dead internet theory. but I also live in an apartment building where many of the tenants smoke weed and as such everyone I bring over complains about it. so to me, you are now the spokesperson of weed. why is it beneficial?

i wouldn't necessarily say it's beneficial. it's a drug at the end of the day and you're probably better off without it, but also life is short and you might as well have some fun lol

Like as far as vices go, I think it's a one of the better options. I'm able to function as a regular person throughout the day and get a little baked at night and it all works out so. Fk those weed smoking tenants tho they should vape it or something

Introduce yourself: here are some prompts:

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

What subgenres are you most into?

How did you find out about this place?

What do you do for fun?
Hey I'm a middle aged guy, was a hacker in the 90s, been dicking around with code since the 80s.

I think I mostly like vaporwave at face value. It may subconsciously tickle a nostalgic nerve somewhere. I love pixel art for reasons I don't understand. I think Motif and System 9 are peak user interface and am seriously disappointed in some of the directions technology has gone so maybe more?

I heard about here through YOSPOS I think. Not sure, these days when I hear about a forum I always sign up as I love shitposting but don't like >redditcostanzayeahrightsmirk/Facebook/Twitter/4chan and about half of other forums are dead or similarly rotten, stupid, or depressing so I can't afford to leave any stone unturned in my quest for good internet.

For fun I do a variety of cardio and resistance exercises, smoke a little weed, eat out at fancy restaurants with my waifu, and play with technology.

Right now I'm reevaluating my relationship with technology. I noticed a lot of forums hurt my mood these days. A lot of technologies don't do it for me like they used to Java and Python seem to be a frustrating mix of frameworks and really unsatisfying work. I'm currently getting into Rust and Go and only going to forums well off the beaten path.

Which brings me here.
