Mostly journalism stuff (news, features, etc., some investigative reporting). I also have a poetry book that was published several years ago. More recently, I started a Substack discussing tech/future-oriented ideas. :)
How did you start this? Did you go to school? For journalism or English, something tech related, or something else? Do you have an editor, for your personal stuff? I would guess if you're submitting an article to some tech site freelance, they'll have someone go over it and give you notes. That's pretty cool you make a living writing.

Great questions! I went to school for journalism but had a minor in English. I work with editors at the publications I contribute to, but I don't have an editor for my Substack/personal writing projects. I'm used to collaborating with editors, so I'm a bit out of my comfort zone. But I'm learning. :)

Hello...

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

Over-editing text like some sort of internet-unique anomaly.
A vengeful digital ghost whose hobbies are reading, writing, and resentment (in precisely that order).
My perfect sunday consists of pulling wires, and seeing what falls out.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

At the moment, not very much!
That's actually why I signed up for an account. I'm a collector of internet radio, and I'd love to listen to enough to form an impression.
As far as I can tell, you hide your radio behind invitations, so... Here I am.
You may stare in awe, as long as you like.

What subgenres are you most into?

Gore, romance, gory romance.

How did you find out about this place?

I played Disillusion, enjoyed it immensely, completely randomly ended up picking up Within the Backrooms despite having ZERO interest in the Backrooms and enjoying it immensely...
Noticing some weird coincidences, doing a bit of internet sleuthing, and wouldn't you know it..?
Now I'm here, even though you shouldn't expect too much of me (maybe a hug now and again, and a very quiet murmur of 'you can do it' when you're feeling glum).

What do you do for fun?

Lots, actually; I sometimes feel like most of the people I know in the waking world don't know how to have any.
I garden, I birdwatch, I admire the seasonal insects; I take long walks, I write quite a lot, and I find joy in my work.

My secret hobby, however, is internet archival. I've got a secondary reason for signing up, however.

For ages, I've been searching for a properly archived full version of an obscure Mac game; Star Seed.
The above is a MacRepo link; it's a pretty surreal, beautiful little game.
From that era before people were like 'games must be games,' you know..?
I believe the currently archived copies are all the shareware demo, without the full content even if you dive/have a serial.
Looks like there might be a newer upload since I last checked, though, hmmn...

That's all. I'll see you, somewhere...

Greetings. I am Ex, of The Extramundane. A pleasure to make your acquaintance.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

Since I'm still relatively young, maybe Freaks and Geeks. Still is pretty relatable. As I grow up though, I find myself relating more with The IT Crowd.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

First exposure to vaporwave was the good ole MACINTOSH PLUS album we all know and (still hopefully) love. I love 80's synthpop and I think synth and the MIDI stuff back then is definitely a lost art that is incorporated a lot more into vaporwave and vaporwave-adjacent projects. Old synth samples are a particular favorite, and I think they really go underrated now. In particular, I love a lot of Eyeliner's work; especially the album Drop Shadow. Just have an appreciation for MIDI done right. Might seem sacrilegious to some considering his lack of sampling, but I think the nostalgia factor is still present as a result of using the sounds he does.

What subgenres are you most into?

Utopian Virtual is by far my favorite subgenre, probably followed by Future Funk.

How did you find out about this place?

The Lainchan webring.

What do you do for fun?

I like to explore the less explored parts of the web nowadays; love going through webrings and all that. I'm a part of two myself. I used to play vidya gaems, but not so much now. I watch movies, but I'm not a film buff per se; same goes with TV. Honestly, I've been reading more lately as I find that the quality tends to be better overall with all the books that exist now, although I typically like reading older books as well as some modern releases. The nice part about reading books when you're older is that your imagination gets to place where it can do the heavy lifting necessary in order to better immerse yourself.

I also enjoy tinkering with sysadmin stuff from time to time. I generally like that better than software development and such, but it still allows me to use some of my technical knowledge.

Actual Vaporwave recommendations in a vaporwave forum??? Unbelievable!

I would love an editor for my nonfiction. It just feels easier for me to be concise writing fiction. Maybe only sometimes, and maybe I'll get better. It's been a long time since I wrote. This board is helping me get back into it. Glad to have you here.

I hear you. Conciseness is something I struggle with too. I can imagine that would be easier with fiction writing, though it's been a while since I wrote anything that wasn't nonfiction. It's a tough skill to master for sure. Godspeed on your reentry into the writing world! Glad you're getting back into it.

'sup, I've been lurking this site for well over 3 years by now. If I recall correctly I found it from an ad while browsing /x/ back in 2020 and since then I've been reading threads every now and then. I can't say I'm too interested on the vaporwave side of this forum although I do like it. If I had to explain why, I think I would say that vaporwave is meaningful because it expresses memories of a perfect past that never was and that we wish we could re-experience, something which speaks to a lot of people in the modern age, saturated with post-modernism and cynical consumerism at every corner, vaporwave is a refuge, a refuge of a past that may have never existed, but that we still have a fond memory of, its comforting. I've been attracted to this site for the same reason, it's comfy and reading threads & discussions here is always a treat, it's completely different from the normal internet and that's what I like about it. Nice meeting you.

What subgenres are you most into?

All things synthwave. I want AR technology to eventually be able to
generate real life into a synthwave world. Or real anything.
I want to be alive when they merge the virtual world and the
real world.

How did you find out about this place?

I honesty forget.
I did not find this fourm through the normie internet, a general search engine,
or an Mongolian Basket Weaving Forum. I think I may have found it through the neocities web
and just added it. Either way, I am happy I did and I think it should stay that way. I am hoping
this place attracts a different type of audience then you see on social media.

What do you do for fun?

Web Surfing (Especially neocities), Working on my Website, Coding (Literal Anything),
Play with AI Tools, Playing with illusions, Video Games, Videoography (Video Projects and such),
Recording, Drawing, Mushrooms/Plants/Anything Nature, Script Writing, Reading (Literal Anything),
Exploring Forests, Computer Engineering, Math Problems, and VR Gaming from time to time.

  1. What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
    1. Honestly, I dont know enough about canceled sitcom scripts but when i was much younger I really enjoyed Home Improvement.
  2. What does Vaporwave mean to you?
    1. Vaporwave reminds me of when i was younger playing games like Myst my G3 Mac (I had the teal one) but there is still much more to vaporwave than just throwing retro tech in your face and baiting nostalgia and I find the more subtle parts of the movement very fascinating.
  3. What subgenres are you most into?
    1. Not super sure where my personal interests fit as far as subgernes (im still new-ish to the vaporwave community despite being around it and being recommended a lot of vaporwave music) so ill share some of my favorite music that I feel fits the prompt Corporate Dreams discography, a couple of albums from Kagami Smile, Macroblank, and Haircuts for Men.
  4. How did you find out about this place?
    1. Through the game Disillusion, i found it in my search for a point and click adventure. Still playing through it right now but its quickly becoming a favorite of mine for its atmosphere and overall vibe.
  5. What do you do for fun?
    1. Explore the internet, find interesting music on bandcamp, play mostly retro or indie video games and go on late night drives. Feel free to hit me up sometime and we can talk about whatever :melhpy:
