Hi everyone, I'm HypotheticallySad.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life? I don't know a lot about old sitcoms, but if I had to compare my life to a form of media, I'd say Hell's Kitchen, if that gives a clear indication.

What does Vaporwave mean to you? Vaporwave to me is honestly just about capturing an old feeling of just watching your old VHS tapes of all the random kids movies your parents and grandparents gave you over the years. That fuzzy old glass box that'd give you a hum of static before you changed the channel to Video 1 and hit play. Good old nostalgia, I suppose, but in a more realistic, droning approach. Looking back at the past fondly is great, but holds you in time, static, unable to progress further than from that state of blissful ignorance and fond memories.

What subgenres are you most into? I love Utopian Virtual and Faux-Utopian mostly for being able to connect the feeling of hearing those songs in similar places I remember going with my mom as a kid. K-Mart, when I'd get a new game for the shitty Windows 98 computer and boot it up for the first time after a week of school, the sound of the intro song. I also enjoy a lot of droning ambient vaporwave such as 2 8 1 4's Birth of A New Day and telepath's album that starts with an 18 minute song of pure ambient bliss. I wish I could type Kanji, then I'd be able to pinpoint the specific album more clearly.

How did you find out about this place? After being subscribed to Agora Road on YouTube and hearing the latest album "Installing Symbiotopia 2.0.1" by Bathroom Plants, I decided to check it out.

What do you do for fun? I play a ton of video games on Steam. *like honestly it's probably an addiction but fuck it* I used to make a few bits and pieces of music in my free time but recently I've just been trying to work more and make more money to hopefully get out of my parents' house. So yea. Work, games, youtube, sleep, *cough*drugs*cough*, repeat.

Play videogames, watch anime (rarely lol), slowly brush up on my Korean and Japanese, edit 3D models ( I don't make them from scratch, I only edit them), listen to other types of music.

Vaporwave is the evolution of aesthetics. It is the end and the beginning of a new chapter in humanity, and it is a culmination of what was promised by the dreams of the 80s and the 90s.

What subgenres are you most into?

Mallsoft, Synthwave, Gamewave, Seapunk, Outrun

Hello! Im looking forward to spend some time on this forum. In my project called "Fiebertraum" I make experimental vaporware.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

I don't really have a connection with sitcoms but for some reason "Married... with Children" came into my mind (Im not married and i don't have children)

In Vaporwave I have found a great community and a way of expression that is a lot more free than the experiences I made while studying art.

I don't really think about subgenres when I listen to music

In a fever dream

What do you do for fun?

Hey guys. I'm Lukewärm, I'm a visual artist and producer. You can check out my stuff (released today) at lukewaarm.bandcamp.com

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

I've always vibed with Vaporwave and any other sort of electronic/ambient/experimental music. Throughout the years I've gone through many different music phases and tastes, but I always keep Vaporwave around. It's a great medium to express complex emotions and thoughts that are often hard to explain.

What subgenres are you most into?

Synthwave adn Experimental

How did you find out about this place?

My friend discovered it and thought I'd like it

What do you do for fun?

Make art and music, play video games, and go on road trips and camp.

Vaporwave drew me in with Blank Banshee 0 and enchanted me with Chuck Person's Eccojams, like many others. Grafton Tanner's "Babbling Corpse" led me down the "let's take this seriously" path thereafter. I don't like talking about genres and what is or isn't vapor, since the lines are very blurred anyway. Future Funk in general? Yeah. S.I.C. Records? Sure. Stratford Ct.? Why not, but idk. If the spirit of vapor is there, it doesn't matter in my eyes if it sounds like Infinity Frequencies or Daft Punk.

My favorite vapor album of all time is Heavy Black Heart by Death's Dynamic Shroud, which blend the styles of Keith's Dark Web, Tech's Classroom Sexxtape and James' #NUWRLDの気持ち, all heavy-hitters for me.

Since 2015, I have been collaborating with artists to release the first multimedia project on my forthcoming non-profit label set to release in 2024. It will incorporate collaborative poetry, music, and video, as well as material science and a global ARG. The project will surround a futuristic AI presence that manifests as 9 corporations representing important facets of life, each encapsulating one vaporwave subgenre.

Ask me for some secrets about it anytime and I'll be happy to oblige.

iCarly, mostly because I have too many friends and they are fun but a burden.

To me, it is an escape into another reality. It makes me relax and focused and it makes me wish for a better future.
What subgenres are you most into?
I'm mostly into MallSoft, Slushwave, Late Night Lofi, and Ambient.
How did you find out about this place?
I found the Twitter of this place!

Hey all, hope you're doing well.

I found out about Agora Road after I was looking through my Bandcamp stats and found that people were linking to my music (yay! listeners!!!) from here, clicked the link and ended up punching myself repeatedly over the fact that I had never heard of this place before, because it looks amazing.

I'm mainly into broken transmission/vapornoise and hypnagogic drift/old dreampunk. IMHO, vaporwave is best when it's weird and when there's an intriguing dichotomy between the hope of upbeat, futuristic consumerist iconography and the despair of broken promises and abandoned dreams. I could go on about this further, but I don't want to sound like a pseud haha

My favourite vapor album of all time would have to be 天使 by チェスマスター. Amazing mix of plunderphonics based hypnagogic drift with more ambient-oriented dreampunk tendencies, as well as a fair amount of murky broken transmission influence added to the mix as well. Great stuff that I can't rec highly enough

Nattymari here.
Been making post- music and art for a while under various names. Nattymari, Curt Crackrach, Sir Walter Bangs, Savion Horne, Frank Ducks, John Crapenter.....

Found this place searching my name due to a new release. Saw someone posted a Frank Ducks lp here in 2018... I don't Google myself too often.

Fx's Terrier's. It had promise, but will always be stuck in 2010...
What does Vaporwave mean to you?
While sometimes more of a loosely-knit community of people and related art styles in multiple mediums than a specific set of steadfast genres, common themes explore nostalgia and perception of technology and media of the past and the lost and possible futures, dystopian or otherwise.

What subgenres are you most into?
perhaps hypagnogic and faux utopian would be the terms to say select James Ferraro and most all of Vektroid catalog got me into the wave along with mallsoft, later on Dream Catalogue and "hard" vapor and some of the more vapor-adjacent stuff that incorporates techno or jungle or whatever
How did you find out about this place?

Hello,

to answer the questions:

"Marrried With Children" ...

Vaporwave can tend to elicit dread and wonder for me; sometimes with a bit of humour.

I'm sorry to say I used to be shy to listen to Kenny G now I love to.

My favorite vaporwave sub-genres are hypnagogic, late-night-lo-fi & broken transmission.

I ended up here because I clicked through the facebook profile there.

I'm no fun/ I don't have fun. xP

Thank you,

Hey guys,

I'm not a musician or a producer, just a run-of-the-mill record collector who after a decade or so working for a Japanese company, traveling quite often to Nippon and spending an unhealthy amount of time trawling through dusty record shops in Shinjuku, had the luck of stumbling upon TOFUBEATS and from there went down the usual Future Funk rabbit hole: Macross, Yung Bae, Desired, etc. etc.

Now answering the questions:

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

Star Raving Mad - as in it's all one long practical joke.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

It bring together many of my favorite pastimes - electronica, old R&B samples, anime, chillwave and old machines (I started writing this on a T61 running Fedora)

What subgenres are you most into?

Future Funk

How did you find out about this place?

Came across a Medium article about it while googling for some vaporwave recs

What do you do for fun?

Refurbish old PCs (my wife despairs when she sees all the junk lying around my office), photography (I went to film school, a long time ago), collecting anime from the Showa era.

Hello, just joined up and It's nice to be here. Thanks for having me, and so:

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air sticks out as the most relevant parallel, maybe...
'Fish-out-of-water' stories speak to me, because I left home to live with other folks in the city, in order to hit the music scene, and get a scholarship to private high school, which would get me a chance at college. And what 13-year-old rapper doesn't want to move to NYC to pursue their dreams? None of them, that's who.
But actually doing it? One of the best decisions in my life, and got me to music school eventually.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
Vaporwave celebrates all the tenets of retro, cyber, and foreign cultures that have built some of the best and most pure parts of pop culture.
On a simpler level, I've just enjoyed listening to vapor and related genres, and inhabiting that world, feeling a shared sense of place with
other creators and listeners which feel like kindred spirits. Something we just 'get' and feel at ease with. Whether you lived through the times
that created the aesthetic, or have a nostalgia for a time you were not a part of, it's the same valid feeling, as a shared, positive experience.

What subgenres are you most into?
Retrowave, Synthwave, and the list goes on

How did you find out about this place?
Twitter

What do you do for fun?
Write and perform music, score indie films and games, go to dance parties (not during the pandemic at all tho, of course!)
I've also been living an alternate life inside Tamriel for over a decade solid. So yeah: videogames.

Man, moving to NYC at the age of 13 must have been intense. I grew up in a humongous city myself (before making my way to NY) so used syringes and the late night subway crazies did not faze me much.

Your track "Consensual" is great, BTW. Nice bandcamp
