What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
Well, I don't watch many sitcoms, to be honest. I'm a 00's kid and grew up watching cartoons on Nickelodean and Cartoon Network. I'm pretty sure I was part of the last generation that actually watched cable TV. I guess if I had to pick, it would be... You know what? I'll say Clarence. I hope that counts. It's a cartoon about an American kid named Clarence doing American kid things with his friends. It perfectly encapsulates what childhood was to me. Going outside, getting dirty, playing with friends until the sunset. As Pan Pizza (perfectly) put it, "The show reeks of summer vacation." It started airing in 2014 and I'd mostly stopped watching TV by then, but I'd say it was a fitting sayonara to TV and that part of my life.
What does Vaporwave mean to you?
Nostalgia. I grew up with a lot of 90s and even 80s stuff, (maybe most 00's kids did though, idk.) By 2008, my family was still using Windows XP on a fat old CRT monitor. We used VHS up until 2011, I believe. I have distinct memories of my Dad recording Godzilla movies on VHS tapes for me whenever they'd air on cable, I suppose that's where my fascination with Japan came from. I was obsessed with Godzilla! For the longest time, we had a broken down 1990/1991 Plymouth Laser Turbo sitting in our driveway. It was red, complete with pop up headlights, a cassette player, and wirey rims. I only got to ride in it a handful of times at most and I only barely remember that. My Dads a guitar player, so 80s and early 90s hair metal were the soundtrack for a good portion of my early days.
What subgenres are you most into?
Future Funk. (I listen to that more than I listen to vaporwave but shhhhh)
How did you find out about this place?
Ads on 4chin's /x/ board. The only thing I knew about Agora Road was the name, and after seeing the ads a few times, I decided to give in and check it out. Given it's /x/, I figured it would just be some schizo site, but I was glad to see that wasn't the case. Comfy place.
What do you do for fun?
I play video games and laze around mostly. I'm kind of at a neet stage in my life. Carrying on the tradition from my Grandpa and my Dad, I also play guitar. Classical and electric; a Godin Multiac Slim, and a modded Squire Stratocaster respectively. I'm a general military buff, especially when it comes to the Cold War. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in my family who actually enjoys listening to my grandpa talk about his time in Vietnam. Just like him, I will talk your ears off about this subject if you let me. Hell, I'd join the military if I could, but I'm pretty sure I'm no longer eligible. Im not a war monger, though. I think it would best be avoided if at all possible. I like anime, Lain being my favorite, followed closely by Non Non Biyori, for similar reasons to Clarence.
That's about it. One more thing to note that you may have already noticed: I tend to over explain things, usually because I feel like I'm not making any sense otherwise. Im pretty sure it's ADHD or OCD or something. So just uh... set the bar high for me and expect at least a small novel every time I post. I apologize in advance for this.
