really interested in the positive and negative aspects of leisure
I'm sure you're probably already heard of it but Josef Pieper's "Leisure: The Basis of Culture ; The Philosophical Act" is a pretty good book on the subject. Thought I'd recommend it just in case it hasn't come across your radar before.

Hi! Thanks for having me.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

I'm not sure I can answer this one, the only sitcom I could name offhand would be Seinfeld, but I'm not Seinfeld really. Not much of a TV person.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

It's like if myself and the last 3 or 4 decades of pop culture fell into a simultaneously cozy but also vaguely incoherent K-hole. A re-digesting of almost-forgotten sounds. A syncretic blend of analog and digital. A fractal expansion of our collection unconscious.

What subgenres are you most into?

I don't know any subgenres, and the artists I enjoyed listening to in the past have Japanese names, so, not knowing Japanese or any of the language's few character sets, I can't really search for them or listen when I please. Every once in a while I stumble onto something I like, but may not be fortunate enough to ever listen to it again. In a way I think it's a very vaporwavey way to listen to music. Oh, subgenre, right... a

How did you find out about this place?

An article from The Atlantic about the Dead Internet Theory referenced this forum and I knew I'd fit in here, or at least could squeeze myself through an Agora Road sized hole.

What do you do for fun?

Mainly gold prospecting. Some creative coding projects. Occasionally I open Ableton up and fiddle with some synths and samples. a

Hello everybody, hope everything is well <3.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
Garfield and friends.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
It was the first modern form of media that matched with my childhood vision of the future.

What subgenres are you most into?
Utopian Virtual, sound collage/plunderphonics, anything that sounds like acid soaked kid pix.

How did you find out about this place?
Browsing the internet for vaporwave related content.

What do you do for fun?
Plant based cooking, getting lost in internet deep dives on whatever pops up in my head, studying sociology (really interested in the positive and negative aspects of leisure), video games (currently playing jrpgs I missed out on as a kid, currently playing chrono cross), visual novels, anime. There's a couple of hobbies I'm planning on starting soon once I get my schedule in order; Language (Italian, Japanese, Russian, probably not all three at once), independent game design and everything that comes with it (music, programming, design, etc etc), gardening, and boxing. I also really want to learn how to make homemade udon.
Thank you for the reminder about Kid Pix. I just watched a video demoing the whole program and a door opened releasing many, many kiloliters of memory fluid into my brain.

Hey hey, I'm W1NTER and I'm relatively new here, I found this website off of twitter and I really liked the vibe and aesthetics so I joined, hope I meet some nice people here
Mhmm, great.

Hey, I'm Punp.

I've been bouncing around the internet for a while. Saw agora mentioned in a thread on crystal.cafe. I lurked the forums for a few months before pulling the trigger and making an account and I really like the mix of people here and their spicy takes. I've been here about a week hanging out in chat and I've really enjoyed it. Spent that time trying to make a proper forum avatar before I posted here.

I'm trying to find a new start on the internet after being exhausted by the like-chasing and the algo. I fucking hate the algorithm. I hate the commercialisation of the internet and the walling of the garden.

So anyway, I'm the first day of your eternal summer. Thanks for having me.

I made this gif specifically.

Hello beautiful folks. My name is Woodsy Alyn.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?
That 70s Show through high school, Mission Hill now.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?
Well back in the peak tumblr days it was a e s t h e t i c s
a nice detuned elevator musak with some marble busts and neon mountains.
but its also a subtle critique of capitalism if your lens is just right, intended or not
It was also one of the early starts for me in my online branding. i used to create vaporwave-esque digital art under the name ay/oh/el back in the 2010-2014 era.

What subgenres are you most into?
breaks of all kind, core, beat, jungle.
hyper pop for its audacity
bassy bass music
i like producing weird hip hop and off genre electronic music though
i also enjoy classic rock, jazz, disco, all sorts of everything.

How did you find out about this place?
i googled ""janxfrez" blank banshee" and this was among the search results.

What do you do for fun?
I like to consume as much culture as possible through mostly tv/music/video games and also contribute to culture as much as I can. I enjoy making digital art and i started producing music at the tail end of 2019.

Thanks for reading, this place seems dope.

What cancelled sitcom best describes your life?

Can't say I've ever related to sitcoms before but I guess I've felt like that Costanza fellow from time to time.

What does Vaporwave mean to you?

Sometimes it bops. Sometimes it don't. The visual vibe is good.

I am old by internet standards, born in 1981. I always had a computer (thank you, dad) and my first one was a Commodore 64. I was around before the worldwide implementation of TCP/IP as THE protocol. I remember the precursor to the modern internet - BBSs in the 80s/90s. I can still identify a few dialup noises in regards to modulation type and baud rate. I remember the wild west days of the very early internet in the 90s, rocking my Mosaic browser and my usenet client. I watched the early internet turn in to a parody of itself. I watched the dearly held and widely lauded virtue of privacy ripped to shreds. There is much more to learn here on the internet now, truly a blessing, but the sense of community has been all but lost.

I haven't really gotten in to vaporwave. Maybe I will explore it a bit though. I do, however, remember the prevalence of an underground feeling in some areas of the internet. I remember when rave culture and techno-geek culture were very interconnected. I remember the 2600 zine, in hard copy. I remember the anarchist's cookbook. I remember wardialing and wardriving.

I'm here because this place reminds me of those times, already largely faded from collective internet memory.

I'm a big gamer, and I like to make orchestral remixes and covers of obscure video/computer game music. The more obscure the better, but it has to speak to me in some way emotionally.

In regards to shows, I really liked Halt and Catch Fire. Gordon very much reminded me of my dad, RIP.

I am 'one of the normies that found out about this place through the dead internet theory article', though in this case, I do intend to participate.

I also like to cook and read, and I play the electric violin and a bit of keyboard. I generally prefer staying indoors, where the temperature is controlled.
