Not sure if this is the best place to post it but I've been trying to find this flash game I played as a kid, but to no avail.
It involved playing as this brown-coloured ghost on Halloween, and your objective was to go around scaring other people.
My memory is not great on the game details, so I can't give more than that.
Tried posting on >redditcostanzayeahrightsmirk, can't find it either.

I used to make cringey Super Mario 64 DS videos with a webcam when I was 9. I had hundreds but eventually stopped making them when the audio would go up in static in the later videos. For all I know they are good as lost now but I would love to watch them for the bad storylines and non-existent editing again (I would literally record the journey to the next scene as I had no idea how to put clips into a video editor).

There used to exist this youtube channel run by an elderly woman named Pam Aus. She lived (maybe still lives) in Unalaska, and worked (works?) at the fishery in Dutch Harbor one town over. Every so often this bald eagle pair, nicknamed "Mr. Eagle" and "Mrs. Eagle" would stop by and chill on her porch railing. They had claimed her house, the hill next to her house, and the lamppost on the street on the other side of her house, visible from the window as their territory. Bald eagles scavenge more than they hunt in the Aleutians cause of the fishing industry, so they always had plenty to eat and would often watch what she was doing through her window while they sat on her porch railing. Other eagles would also stop by on her porch railing frequently. She also had two cats, Suitcase and Gizmo, the latter of which would frequently interact with the eagles and hold friendly competitions with Mrs. Eagle to see who could get the corner spot on her railing, a favored place to perch/lie by both of them. There was also a stray named (I think) George who she'd feed, but one day he never came out from under her porch where he lived - most likely having died of some unknown cause. There was also Todd the fox, who would always try to steal George's cat food whenever he got fed, and was a playful, mischievous character in general.

Pam would upload these videos usually a couple times a week, but one day she just deleted her whole channel without any warning and all the videos vanished. Only reason I can think of as to why is that maybe someone came by to harass her, since, while she never gave out any personal info other than that she lived in Unalaska (extremely obvious anyway due to the terrain and the prevalence of bald eagles) her address was easily deduced since Unalaska is a very small town. I truly regret not downloading my favorites of her videos - it was such a relaxing series.

I remember a multiplayer game in the official history channel website, it was about the 1930s mobsters vs cops, it was in first person and you were able to choose weapons, it was kinda dull to say at least, but i remember good times in it, even i got memories about how it looked, but i was never able to found that game again.

I remember a specific episode of G4's Hurl game show that is now lost to time. It was the episode where the contestants got on carnival rides after enduring an eating challenge. Pretty funny to 10-year old me. Come to think of it, there's a lot of stuff from G4 that just wasn't archived or rereleased in any way.

There's a lot of G4 stuff that's difficult to find.
Especially since they're trying to relaunch it and cater to the woke crowd and are desperate for everyone to forget that they used to blatantly market the network to horny young men with attractive female hosts.

Everyone remembers Morgan Web and Olivia Munn, but they also had a Playboy model hosting shows as well.
And basically everything she did on the network was extremely sexually charged.

From her doing interviews for the naked bike ride while wearing flesh colored panties and pasties, to wrestling one the other attractive female hosts in a pool of oatmeal, or even her comedic sketches as a super hero with super boob powers.

Anyone who still has videos of these things is likely to get a copyright strike / cease and desist if they get noticed.

I know there's a lot of lost media I've wanted to find.
But ironically now that I've found a thread about them ... I can't actually recall any examples.
This is relatable.

  • The first time I heard "It's My Life" I had heard it sung by a woman [somewhat sounding like Cindy] instead of the lead from Talk Talk. Nobody remembers this.
Is this it?

Edit: nvm, I was scrolled down the thread. This does bring to light not how much media is actually lost, but how we don't know how to find it. Now whenever I find something that I know is going to stick with me I save it. This has lead to massive data hoarding.

I swear I saw something like this but whenever I bring it up no one has heard of it. This had to have been around 2006-2007. I remember seeing this weird ass web comic with bright colors and the art was really impressive and colorful, especially for the medium at the time. The style changed throughout the comic frequently as some parts were more realistic and some were more bizarre, but throughout the whole thing it was loosely based around a colorful and surreal style. I don't remember the story too well, but I remember it being pretty dark with a heavy focus on drugs and kidnapping (I didn't pay much attention to the story, it was mostly about the art for me) I really want to find this again, some of the art on this thing I remember being unbelievable and I want to know more about the story. I've been looking for a long time but I haven't come up with anything remarkable, I believe it might have been a collaborative effort due to the changing styles, but I have no idea where to start looking.

Does any of this ring a bell?
Is this the sandman comic by Neil Gaiman?

I have a different Lost Media experience. Things which I can recollect what they are but which no longer exist.

When I was a middle and higher schooler in the 00s I was a big webcomic reader. As a kid I would read or watch literally anything that was a comic or cartoon uncritically, so alot of what I read was garbage. There were a number of webcomic aggregators where people could discover series, i think the website i went to was called topwebcomics or something like that. Everyone was permitted a daily vote what they considered the best ongoing series and there would be a daily listing of the 100 best comics (by popular consensus). In the era I remember strongest of reading webcomics c. 2002-2005 the coveted top 10 was dominated by a comic called Wendy and one called Elftor. Some webcomics which are still around competed in this environment, Questionable Content was always in the top lol. Both Wendy and Elftor strike me as "important" early webcomics due to them trading that first place slot for so long.

I wouldn't call Wendy a "good" comic, as it is neither particularly funny or well drawn. By year 2000 webcomic standards it was incredible though. This seemed PROFESSIONAL QUALITY. In its way it's a fascinating record of early internet culture and wave 2 anime/manga fandom (anime is now on toonami or other kids programming blocks and at rental stores, manga is available at brick and mortar book stores, but it's still pretty early days and it's not mainstream yet). The webcomic debuted in 1999.

There's an old ass TVTropes article about it.

It's mostly anime girls being lol randumb in a very quintessentially Invader Zim holds up spork way, that's usually the set up and the punchline is lesbian sex. In a sense the internet has gone full circle and this concept no longer seems dated one bit, retro anime girls being wacky and silly, even down to there being a goth chick.

It's pretty par for the course stuff for its era, but it's also one of the first webcomics out there. Anyway from what I understand the creator transitioned and disavowed all their old work and took it down, and I don't think anyone saved it. Briefly they brought it back online a few years ago and there's a partial waybackmachine snapshot of it. The fragments we have left paint a picture of what this is, but several of these lol randumb web 1.0 pervert cartoons are lost to time it seems. The sequel comic, Cute Wendy had a release in a physical book at one point so still exists in that form, complete. Girly was the next iteration of this concept and seems to be the earliest work the author acknowledges.

Creator's current website

Maybe an archive of this will go up at some point in the future because the artist still draws porn of the character from time to time but it seems unlikely.

Anyway, a formerly popular piece of early web culture I think has been completely forgotten. Maybe someone found it interesting.

Always sad when a webcomic creator goes nuts like that. Sinfest is probably the most notable example, what a tragedy.

Sinfest was also always in one of the top spots on those sites too lol. I forget what the creator's deal was. He changed his mind on the edgier anti-feminist stuff in early Sinfest?

Anyway you can't really blame the artist for something like this, the internet had 20 years to archive this comic. Plenty of formerly popular webcomics just don't exist anymore.

Here's the other really popular one I remember as well. There are several mirrors on wayback machine, but the way the comic was uploaded, each panel being its own image, means tons of archived pages have missing panels. MS Paint post-South Park edgelord stuff. Seemed very cutting edge and irreverent to a retarded thirteen year old like myself. Elftor and his sidekick Cheesetor have profanity filled adventures that usually end up with Elftor killing people. Often George W. Bush. Archived page.

Also searching around for information is leading me to some fun corners of the web lol.

I wonder if people into lost media ever think about this kind of stuff or if it's all forgotten commercials. One day this stuff will all be lost, a lot of it already is. Most of these comics don't have much inherent artistic or literary value at all, yet there's an amateurish sovlfvlness present in this early phase of naïve internet culture.

One web comic that I believe is on its way to obscurity is Electric Retard - a comic about pure shock value which is also very post-southpark. It contains MS Paint images of giant naked Hitler performing destructive sex acts on children he scoops out of a school, mental patients on murder sprees etc all set in a brightly coloured world.

I feel like it's a culturally important artefact because of the sheer extremes it goes to. The art style is simple enough to not be overly graphic. I believe that it will be lost to time because:

* It was banned in Germany
* laws in the UK mean that cartoon depictions of naked children is classified as child pornography
* the content is highly controversial and "socially dangerous" to archive.

If you want to read it I'm sure the website is still available. It's not pornographic and it doesn't glorify any cardinal sins of morality. It really is just the embodiment of 2000s Newgrounds shock humour.

That I'm hesitant to post about this indicates why I must.

@containercore Have you read Freefall? Interesting little comic about a world in the middle of being terraformed. It started in 1998 and chapter one ended in 2016, damn.

Coming back to it though, one thing I've noticed is how shockingly dystopian the setting is. Ecosystems Unlimited owns basically everything on the planet and a high-ranked personnel says outright that the only reason they don't just enslave the entire population is because it's more profitable to keep them as consumers. One of the main characters was genetically engineered to be subservient to humans and is frequently mind controlled with a remote, and it just gets worse and worse the further you read.

Yet there's this cheery, friendly vibe about the comic, as if this is an optimistic, albeit 'grounded' vision of the future. It's something I've noticed in a couple of sci-fi settings like this and I find it really bizarre, where the setting is horrifically dystopian but the tone suggests otherwise. It's not even like Dorohedoro where it's grim but with an upbeat tone, it's like the author isn't even aware that anything's gone wrong at all.

I know there's a lot of lost media I've wanted to find.
I can tell you tons about movies I want to find and that are lost to the time, the prime example being infamous Metropolis. It is kind of there, but about 6 minutes of it are still lost.
I hold the most highest of hopes that those will be found during my lifetime.

A lot of music as well. For example, absolute tons of music from 80's movies only can be heard as several riffs or a verse during the movie itself, with the whole song never been released to the public for whatever reason. On ocassion they pop up, but those ocassions are quite rare. Said recordings are still collecting dust somewhere in the studios, if we are lucky, or have been lost, if we are unlucky. Here's the channel of a dude which kind of categorizes this stuff: www.youtube.com/@Phaota/videos

Overall... always backup everything you like.

I once fell asleep in front of Metropolis at a projector show in London. From first hand experience I can tell you that the film would not benefit from an additional six minutes.
