Miyamoto said that the inspiraton for Zelda was drawn from exploring caves near his childhood home, and that the inspiration for pokemon was drawn from catching bugs as a kid.

Post your country, your biome and the secret place you used to go as a kid/teen:

- Australia
- Rainforest
- I used to go into a wild national park, walk for 2 hours through unbashed trail, hop from mosssy rock to rock over crystal clear creeks, and sit under a water fall. The air was desne and sweet, and I used to explore little tree caverns and caves. I went with a mate who would spend hours with me in completely silence, just trudging through serenity. You could only hear the faint rushing of water and the chirping of birds. It was blindly green everywhere you looked, you felt trapped in a tappestry of green vines and pale grey bark of twisting gum trees.

The information gathering scheme in question:

I used to fuck off to this little part of beach- back home, the desert became the beach suddenly and swiftly- where a little hill gave me the perfect place to set up a fire, and watch the sun setting down over the ocean. It wasn't secret, but there was nobody else who knew about it- and that's what made it special to me.

I never really went outside a lot when I was a kid, not because I didn't want to but because my parents insisted on supervising me, and they were at work most of the time so I only really got to go outside on weekends and even then I never really got to explore. That changed when we moved house when I was around 10 years old. We moved from a relatively quiet area on the outskirts of town to a house only a short walk away from the middle of town. Around my 12th birthday I started exploring the area more, since I had gotten a scooter for my birthday. The area was a pretty typical English neighbourhood, full of grey late-40s semi-detached houses, pavements covered in gum and littered with crisp packets, bottle caps and nitrous oxide canisters, and people who you would rarely ever see smiling.

There was a park in the neighbourhood which was pretty shit to say the least. there was a large field with nothing on it except too football goals, which had a small play area next to it. further on from the play area was just another field, but at least that one had some trees and a path. That bit of the park was nice to walk through. The path through the park lead to a little alley which would take you to another part of the neighbourhood. In this part of the neighbourhood, there was a car park for an abandoned shop. No one ever used it, even on days where you would expect to see cars parked there, it was empty. The shop probably got put out of business by a corner shop that was only a short walk away.

I spent a lot of time at that car park. I would go to the corner shop, get myself a fizzy drink with whatever pocket money I could gather and then I would just sit there and mess about with whatever I could find. One time I brought a football to kick at the wall of the abandoned shop, and I somehow managed to get the ball stuck on the roof. I thought it was a good idea to try and throw my shoe at the ball to try and get it unstuck, and it did work, I got the ball unstuck, but then my shoe got stuck on the roof. Another time I had a bit more money than usual and I got the idea to buy several cans of coke and a bat. I put the cans up on a little ledge and started smashing them with the bat.

I eventually stopped going there because some old guy came up to me and started asking me questions about what I was doing there, who I knew in the area and whatever. I didn't tell him anything but it spooked me so I abandoned the car park.
