If you sent into y2k era than this post isn't for you hahah .

Y2k is officially back. well at least in my head it is lol.

What is spacehey you ask? SpaceHey is a retro social network focused on privacy and customizability. It's a friendly place to have fun, meet friends, and be creative.

In 2020 it was created by a student developer that felt a feeling of nostalgia was missing. It still has that same look of early 2000s era. It's developing and growing as we speak. :)

Let's go back to 2005 & Add me on there spacehey.com/keneticwav :)

This is really cool. Social media of any kind isn't my thing, but something this has got me wondering about is if we will soon see a trend of the "old internet" making a comeback in the mainstream. At least on the aesthetic level, since we all know Google and Facebook will never give up their power. In fact if anything new and cool does become big they'll probably be the first to buy it up.

Nonetheless, I think one of the reasons so many people feel so nostalgic for the old web (at the very least the early to mid 00s web) is that it emphasized individuality in a way that modern social media stifles. I think a lot of people who can remember those times miss that. Even simple things like being able to add a damn background imagine on your profile.

There is also the factor that most social media is old at this point, and by default has lost any "cool" status it might have had at one point. Facebook is Boomerbook, Twitter is for sheep, Instagram is softcore porn, and idk what else people might be using. But none of this those are "cool" in the way that only something underground can be. Spacehey seems to fall into that category for now, but paradoxically the moment it gets popular it'll lose that.

Is this site legit? I've been on plenty of "off-brand" social media sites like ZippCast back in the day, and many of them weren't always safe security-wise.

Hey man, am I the only one who still doesn't have an account there when apparently all the other cool guys around here already have one? Should I give it up to the trend?

I would join but generally social media leaves a sour taste in my mouth, is this any different?
Different community. Since the experience on social media is around 70% culture and 30% platform, this should make a big difference.

Is it me or I'm I the only one to consider forums as social media
I dont consider forums to be social media, they are both very different in the way you consume information and how social media sites like Facebook and twitter function.

I honestly blame largely on the fact that much of the people here in the states decided to think Central planning is a good thing and California isn't certainly a rare case either.

New York, Oregon, Washington (state), Maryland, I think New Jersey, and possibly a few other states out there are the same case; big/heavy regulations, hostile to local businesses, and rent control are one of the few things that made these states a shithole as well.

Don't be fooled. It's better to live in a comfy city in Brazil than detroit

my goal is to move to europe. not for lack of trying, btw. currently applying but with the pandemmy everyone's being cautious. SF's the best place for my salary rn.

Incidentally, a lot of the states where's that the case here are usually ran by mostly democrats. Not that Democrats are to blame but it seems to be the case

Man it makes sad that the only people are doing these days is the equivalent running away and then paradoxically make the same screw ups previous people done in the new place but much worse somehow.
  • Hadrian Hardrada Cicero:
Not assuming that you're going to do that, but it's a trend I'm seeing a lot.
  • xandra:
definitely not true. i'm from the south and it's shithole USA down there lmao
