God bless the zoomers, they are bringing the 90s back even though they never lived in it.
Hey that's fine with me, I still miss those times for sure. It won't be the same, nobody can really go backwards. However, if the culture discovers it is moving in the wrong direction, then progress means backtracking to the correct direction, therefore, as long as we don't fall into reactionary reflexes just for the sake of it, we can finally admit the true glory of the 90s culture and recreate it in our days today.

Like the neoclassical revival , we can have a dot-com revival too!

Maaaaaaaaan, I've been a zoomer hipster romanticizing the old internet and old 4chan since at LEAST 2017! All these fake ass posers completely stole my thing. Now I have to start romanticizing the late 2000s and early 2010s to stand out again!

In all seriousness, I don't really mind. If this encourages more people to move away from modern web slop and into forums or the personal web, I see it as a positive.

Oh and I forgot to mention, this trend has been going on for a lot longer on iFunny.

I am tremendously white pilled on this right now, I see social platforms on life support as the kids don't see them as a place to be anymore. My zoomer cousin showed up with his phone on greyscale and eye comfort shield (blue blocking mode) to dinner the other day. He said he's not on any social media and that is pretty well standard for his age group.

The internet is in the beginning of a new renaissance - blogs, forums, anti-corpo sentiment, cyberpunk tendencies, caring about privacy all coming back bros!

TikTok Zoomers lump that in with Y2K and create this jarring ass shit where Nyan Cat and MLP:FIM coexisted with Geocities and Dial Up Internet

Also, most tiktok zoomers that are interested in oldweb/oldcartoon are part of the barcode armed faggot club so it's only a matter of time until those that venture deeper into the roots of oldweb will hang themselves OR accept it
what barcode armed faggot club? I didn't start a armed club that i know of.

Anti-corpo sentiment? Sure, yeah. There's plenty of sentiment but no praxis. I eagerly wait for the day when what you claim is true, but to this day I have not met anyone else who renounces social media.

same i missed out on the old days and when i was old enough to be aware of shit things already made a turn for the worst. so ive been romanticizing old blogs and boards ever since the mid 2010s but at the time no one gave a shit about those.
i think theres a paradox concerning this current threading of le old web aesthethics though, the tiktok kids think they long for it but they only quench their thirst *by* consuming only modern web slop, feeding the corpos that ruined current webspace in the first place.

when is GOATSE gonna become a thing again i want all of these gyatt zooms and geriatric milennials to be bombarded with goatse 24/7
We have our own equivalent of Goatse with the Nickado Avocado pic. That and the fact that most people just bait and switch with videos (Thug Hunters).

Kinda crazy to me that Lucky Star can get popular again without Haruhi as well, just goes to show that these kids truly are just in it for the aesthetic. Since it's basically impossible to discuss Lucky Star without addressing it's constant referencing of popular shows of the time, with Haruhi being the one most referenced
I hated Lucky Star and the other moe anime with the girls in the band so much I just stopped watching anime for over a decade. Glad to see youngins' enjoying Azumanga Daioh though. May just download the series for a nostalgia trip. I'm on the fence about Haruhi catching on. I'm worried seeing them do the dance for Tiktok (cause you know they would) will give me flashbacks to cringe anime culture of that time.

As for kids having second hand nostalgia for 00's *chan culture, its not like you can't just go on 4chan now and use as many gamer words as you want on designated shitposting or containment boards. The golden era of /b/ was doomed to end as more and more boards were added, cutting down on actual good or amusing threads on /b/. Even the niche of pure shitposting was filled with multiple boards just for that. /b/ is just porn and a lot of obvious troll bait.

I think what they are really liking is the fact internet culture was a lot more upbeat back then. This was the EBINN 4 DA WINZZZ, YOO GET 10000 INTERNEZZZ :3c era, and most of the offensive humor was understood to be ironic. Honestly I sort of appreciate the more down to earth and outright darker attitude of Zoomers to the manic happy-go-lucky overly cute nature of Millenials when they were the forefront of youth culture.

Wonder if kids will think I'm some cool grand elder if I told them about the time I was banned for two weeks for making jokes during a CP raid on /b/.

they dont even watch the series they just look up a synopsis and absorb shit thru memes and such ...
Confession: This is my relationship to Warhammer 40k.

I'm simply not spending the time/money/energy to get invested in the tabletop. But I've appreciated the universe from afar.
Through memes at first. Then fan youtube videos.
Then I started reading wiki pages to better understand the references, got sucked down the rabbit hole reading way more than intended.
But the closest I've ever come to actually "playing" 40K was Mechanicus.
Which I bought because I had already listened to the soundtrack. (which is fucking incredible)

Lame.

They'll never get truly invested in it. It's just a trend to them. They'll keep doing their usual social media bullshit because going to repopulate the old web is too inconvenient and doesn't get enough clout. They only care about looking cool and have absolutely no convictions. In a sense not much different than virtue signaling whatever issue is trendy to get all riled up about. The ones who truly aren't into that social media mess and trends will still be considered weirdos at best and nonexistent at worst. Those fucking retards would never survive five minutes on the actual 4chan. It doesn't provide enough of a dopamine hit. Not enough validation. And the culture there is at odds with their sanitized uwu shit. Hell not even that many newfags make it on Agora Road and it's much, much tamer than 4chan can be.

It's the same horseshit all over again. Just like these Twittards who made Neocities website that they abandoned fairly soon or don't ever update. At the end of the day most of these muppets will go back to their one true love: social media. Just like those cottagecore girls who are fantasizing about le simple life and I bet my ass that they would not last a week doing so.

Fuck this shit, sincerely.
Yeah this is the right take IMO. It's a fad that will fade. They are too far engrossed into TikTok & Instagram, and until there is a MAJOR culture shift, that's just how it's going to be. Normies doing normie shit.

Also, /b/ was never good. That shit gave me a pornography addiction and fucked me up beyond belief. While I miss the old internet and to some extent Anonymous (pre-scientology), it would be best for /b/ itself to remain where it is: the washed up ruins of the clearweb.

This kind of thing tends to happen a lot with other things too. The car market tends to see 3 big spikes in the valuation of older cars. The first when the generation that wants them and they're designed for are around and can buy them new. The 2nd when those of that generation that couldn't buy them new buy them used like 10-20 years later. The 3rd when the kids of that generation remember a bit of the culture of the previous generation, and think they're cool, and that's your 3rd spike. You also see it with game collecting, bands and music etc(Gorillaz Humanz album was probably timed around what I think would be that 3rd spike of interest)... Very loosely, the generation after tends to romanticise the best parts of the generation before- like this forum romanticizing early web aesthetics.

Imo, this is fine. The world needs more romanticism and hope, since things financially feel pretty bleak for a lot of people nowadays, especially the younger people

Have you seen what "their culture" consists of? It's edited wojacks, quirky corpo accounts, stealing for tiktok clout, mediocre white women getting popular and skibidi toilet. I'd rather them steal old shit and revive it.

Like others had say before, on one hand if it takes zoomers away from social media and makes them invested in old web, then good!
But on the other hand they struggle a lot to integrate, they newfaggotry it's excessively long and can change a site culture. I'm living this in a imageboard where I'm since 2015. Covid era we had an influx of newfags that refused to integrate, and they are still running wild with their four year old newfaggotry, and they kinda changed the site culture. We oldfags have to brush off stupidity like: s*uicide/m*rder instead of the normal spelling because these fags are used to SM censorship; politically correct mini modding in threads because omg anon that's so "ist" don't say that; zoomer lingo; silly infights and baits/taking baits because they don't understand the culture of this particular IB; and so on.
I go to neocities and kinda watch that zoomer mentality in action too. Not in everyone of course, but some people can't shake it off that fear of having a wrong opinion, and some carry on they particular flavour of zoomer or normalfag lolcowish behaviour wherever they nest. What's the use of them having 5000000 graphics of Lucky Star and Shugo Chara if they are going to shit on netiquette or even create blacklists of websites of TERFS/Right-wingers/CielxSebastian shippers/whatever group they don't like?
Kek I ended ranting. TLDR: if they are not going to integrate, they better stay on tiktok.

it's easy to lose the fact that "aesthetic" is just internet speak for "mood". these are two related, but very different things and they sometimes get mixed up when discussing topics like this. the reason aesthetics have become everything in the last 10 years is because you can only fantasize about moods rather than experience them now because nothing meaningful actually happens online. what the fuck else are these kids gonna tie their identities to when the internet is the only place anyone ever is and it's also coincidentally made up of 99% corpo stealth advertising expertly designed to drill itself into their sloppy brains.

not to mention how the volunteer internet thought police task force spent years meticulously sanitizing the only 5 sites that exist - ostracizing, labeling, banishing and forbidding every bit of edge that these kids naturally yearn for as they try to find a sense of belonging online, something the internet used to provide to kids like them from previous generations. corpo ad requirements govern what language is and is not acceptable and kids are not even aware at how their sense of morals was played to get to this point. all they had to do was convince them that any word they don't like can become the n word and by continuing to use it you are actively causing genocide and zoomers were happy to take over the actual moderating. ironically the internet is only more toxic and divided than ever, but as long as the words they use don't impact the bottom line and they got something to distract them from the bigger picture ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

let's not pretend we're not all into this roleplaying shit anyway. i never liked or visited 4chan much but i consumed a ridiculous amount of animations that look like that and i definitely feel a nostalgia for the aesthetic. the one thing that unites us all as a "community" is that we live in a orwellian dystopia so yeah i give the kids a break.

As a zoomer, I've been noticing the prevalence of this pattern of behavior from other zoomers since the late 2010s and then it forcefully intensified by the time COVID came. It got so terrible that I had to get off social media completely asap and for a while, I had a very bad month-long episode of depression because I had no zoomer friends on the internet or irl to contact and let out my zoomer shit to.

Then I found out about this forum as well as the personal and indie web, and I felt so relieved to find a community that actually recognizes these issues that my generation faces with little to no awareness. It felt like I broke off and freed myself from the shackles of blacklists, DNIs and cancel culture.
