I'm making this thread so I can discuss the Original Xbox. With a criminally underrated library (inb4 "what did it have besides Halo"), and an excellent modding scene, the Microsoft Xbox is my favorite console of all time. Here we can discuss the games, history, emulation, online play, modding, homebrew, and hardware preservation.

I'll start by talking about a mostly forgotten game, Quantum Redshift. This game is like F-Zero combined with Mario Cart. You race around very complicated obstacle courses of tracks at mind blowing speeds, all while picking up weapons and shields to combat anyone who tries to pass you. The physics in this game are incredibly smooth even by today's standards. The motion blur effect was far ahead of its time for 2002. The difficulty setting mostly just adjusted the speed, and at the highest difficulty (Redshift), these races were short and brutal. This game even supports Xbox's custom soundtrack feature, allowing you to rip CDs and listen to them in game. The only real problem I have with this game is that when you try to play split screen, you can't have any AI, leading to boring races with only 2-4 contestants.

I like his video on how 343 destroyed the Forerunners. MCC's port of Halo 2 is abysmal btw. Bugs keep piling up every update and they never fix them. I wonder if they even noticed the rectangular outlines around some of the blood splatters in the original graphics. I am hoping that this doesn't turn into a Halo thread though (Fat chance lmao). Anyway, I actually didn't have an xbox-hueg growing up and my experience with it was limited to playing halo 1/2 a few times at other peoples houses. I had a magazine that for whatever reason had a full unlock guide for this game and was basically the only thing I ever knew about the console.

My neighbour gave it to me cuz he got too "old" for it. he gave me a couple games with it, one being GTA: San Andreas, some James Bond game, and some pirates of the carribean game? I mainly played GTA: San Andreas, for which I had a book with cheatcodes and watched scary x-files theme gta san andreas scary myth videos.

I once had a fight with my mom about this thing (unsure why, I believe I got too violent?) and my mom threw it in the bin and destroyed it. I will never forget that moment and I still think about it to this day, why did u have to do that mom....

The James Bond game was most likely either Agent Under Fire, or Nightfire.

They were multi platform games that came out on other systems at the time. I have the Xbox versions of the GTA games. They're just as good as the PS2 versions.

The original Xbox's aesthetic was evocative of an edge-core future that never came to be. Oh, to live in that box...

I played the absolute SHIT out of Fusion Frenzy as a kid, no idea why no one talks about this game.



It was certainly a capable piece of hardware, and definitely the most aesthetic thing Microsoft has put out, even though the controllers are a bit clunky. The menu screens of all the 6th gen consoles were killer and Xbox is certainly no exception, as VOX_ pointed out. It was also great for getting into console modding as a novice with XBMC (Now Kodi). Right up there with the Wii for versatility.

I don't think it quite matches up to PS2 in terms of that consoles absolutely gargantuan library, and the Gamecube will always hold a special place in my heart, but Xbox is certainly overlooked.

Also forgot to mention Mechassault, damn OG Xbox had a sick library

I did not know about this. I bought an OG Xbox at a second hand store like a year ago that's sitting in my room. Haven't tested it yet. I should probably try to do this.

If you wanna know the backstory to this, the company that Microsoft had make this actually stole the design from another company, but that company was super paranoid and had given the dude who stole it faulty plans that produced capacitors that were designed to fail after a length of time.

your collection has to be one of the most impressive things i've seen someone posting on agora road, saints row 2 for the xbox always hitted different to me, and i was a playstation kid lmao.

Also fable was the only reason why i got interested in xbox, people says that halo is microsoft best ip, and kinda true in an objective way, but for me, it was and always be fable, i remember the amount of hours i spent playing the first one it's just so fucking great

I actually haven't played Fable yet! It's a relatively new grab for me, I found it at Goodwill a few months ago. Definitely gotta give it a try one of these days.

Alright, I actually own one of these things, now all I need to do is figure out if it's a model that needs its capacitor removed and if there is a mod for it to replace the disk drive with an SD card reader since the og disk drive is rather unreliable.

I got an original Xbox but did not played it that much. I never played Halo so idk about that either. I think we only had Sims 1 and 2 plus some Star Waras game that was fun, although those memories have almost completely dissapeared.
