I feel like most furries and people with these animal identities are just livestock farmers without a herd due to space money or time constraints. As a rancher you merge biologically with the beast. They are born into your arms and die by your hand. You decide who fucks who and when, and then maybe you take the resulting offspring and eat them or sell them. You will push a prolapsed uterus back into a beloved ewe after a difficult birth and warm a naked lamb with your bare flesh to save it on a cold winter morning. Milk the mother, and then split what you get with the baby. Oh, and you get absolutely covered in these animals shit piss and drool. It's not a sexual thing in general, but I hear in New Zealand they prefer ewes to the local lasses. You talk to some ranchers and they got a phone full of cow pictures that would put your neko art collection to shame. Deer hunters too, these guys can be downright religious with how much they love deer. Drawing them, thinking about them, talking about them, and eventually, shooting, killing, gutting and butchering them. The urge to rear livestock is something fundamentally human, and could these otherkin lifestyles be a sort of outlet/perversion of this urge in the context of a sick society that disconnects man from his meat?
