i think the best thing about punk is they complained about the establishment, but were actually just establishment mouth pieces

kind of like twitter kids who think they all edgy because they think they're rebelling against the status quo, but actually, they just are the status quo
Not all of them. GG Allin certainly doesn't fit this description. There's also No Remorse, Fortress, Skewdriver, and others.

Anti-Flag is a great example of what you're talking about though. I used to really like them even though I didn't agree with them on a lot of stuff. I had a decent amount of respect for them up until they went full NPC during the Trump era.

to be fair, ive never heard of the latter 3. but GG Allin was normie status quo degeneracy

degenerate, animalist amorality and such have been status quo normal since the beginning of time

As a National Socialist I really shouldn't like NOFX, but they are funny and they are pretty open about what they are so I can't really fault them for it. I think that The Decline is probably the magnum opus of punk rock.

This song is a good example of what MarchToTheSea was talking about. A bunch of guys who think they're rebels parroting exactly what the establishment wants them to think. Punk rock has been subversive since it's inception with only a few exceptions, such as the rock against communism bands. This is why I mostly quit listening to punk this year after being in the scene since the 90s. I mostly just listen to jrock and vtubers now.

Here's my last.fm if anyone is curious. I think it's a fun site to compare your tastes with other people. It only tracks what I listen to in my car though. https://www.last.fm/user/Randall_Danger

very cringe that there's nazi losers in here but that's to be expected from a forum like this. Some really great stuff has been posted so far but I feel like a lot of it is straight up classics so I'll give a couple of recommendations. While they are a big band this album doesn't get mentioned nearly enough so I'l put it out there; The Meat Puppets first album. It's like heavy psychedelic punk with abrasive vocals. Apparently they were in the throes of numerous acid trips when this album was cut. Anything from the Japanese punk band GISM is essential (they almost tow the line into metal, but their discography is rich). Massachusetts hardcore band Deep Wound is awesome, a couple of the members would go on to start dinosaur jr. I would also rec Greg Sage's Portland band The Wipers, John Brannon of Negative Approach's later band Easy Action, The Urinals (who are almost a self-referential take on earlier punk, and the coachwhips

A couple others that come to mind, some of these a bit later, are knapsack (which is sorta similar to jawbreaker but they never got nearly as big), Rites of Spring (if you're into older punk you probably know these guys as a result of their association with Fugazi), as well as (more garage punky) thee headcoats. Also notable to mention Thee oh Sees who, while now heavily influenced by krautrock and proggier stuff, have strong elements of surf punk, garage rock, and doomier shit in some of their earlier work. I think it's interesting how a lot of these more simplistic garage rock/garage punk guys from the late 2000's have really expanded their sound and picked up influence from more psychedelic sources

Very cringe that there are NPC losers here who can't help but seethe over someone having different politics than them, but I guess that's to be expected on a forum like this. Anyway here's some wholesome punk.
