I think its Dangerous to deify the self. Its more accurate to say that Christ is with us, but we are not the Christ. We can manifest the Will of Christ in the material world, but that only makes us "Christ-like" or "Saintly" it doesnt make us a god.
Luke 23:39-43 (NIV)
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!"
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong."
42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[
d]"
43 Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."
And here is a Catholic Interpretation of the Thieves during the Crucifixion of Christ.
From Catechism
1030 "All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven."
Here is a message from the Pope Benedict XVI (
https://www.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/audiences/2012/documents/hf_ben-xvi_aud_20120215.html):
The Catholic Interpretation of the Crucifixion is one of Hope and Forgiveness. To see that it represents the false deification of the Self, is most likely a projection. Like I was mentioning before, this is a big problem with the protestants who are non-confessional, it allows for disastrous interpretations of the Bible to come afloat with minimal means to refute... because I mean who are you to interpret the Word? At least the confessional Priests have had to prove knowledge of the Bible and of their sect's beliefs. This is why having a person like the Pope is critical in a religion. We have learned through the Protestants that theocracy is not a good form of government, but when it comes to the interpretation of the Word, the hierarchical structure is important to maintain the sanity of the Faith.
But here's an important take away. You cannot avoid the purification process, and it seems to me you are looking for a way to avoid it.
