Nobody likes a nanny state. Let those who are weak light up a fag and smoke till their lungs turns black. A nanny state is just an excuse for the state to intrude in people's lives and to make their lives worse overall. A good compromise is to let those who smoke pay their own medical bills American style. No nanny state needed. Bankruptcy from healthcare will correct any smoker. Here in America, while smoking does have a somewhat cool appeal, in reality only those of the lower economic strata engage in tobacco products. The rich, are more likely to engage in fancy and expensive cuban cigars. I am not going to debate the health benefits of smoking tobbaco, as the negative effects are well understood and do not need repeating.
The problem is that nanny states encourage intrusion of the state into the lives of people. It implies that the state knows more than the people it will force this bad law upon. As if that weren't enough, it also greases the slippery slope of further nanny actions. The facists behind the ban will take the implementation of the tobbaco ban, and use it to help pass further nanny state laws. If banning x was successful, lets ban Y as well. No. As if that weren't trouble enough, it also encourages the formation of a black market for these products. Laws do not halt illegal activity, they only increase the costs of transacting in that business. Literally, laws prohibiting an item help to make it more lucrative to engage in that behavior.
Just like with the war on drugs and the fabulous profits raked in by cartels worldwide. Someone is always willing to engage in that activity to make that profit. The war on drugs has been a miserable abject failure of the highest order, but those who benefit will do anything to retain the status quo. I will spare the deets on the war on drugs, because everyone already knows.
