Teenpunk (early-mid 2000s)

original_ca9721203e9c779c0a23a2d1db5cf6d5.jpg

Teen Punk was an aesthetic geared towards older kids and teens during the first half of the 2000s. It's characterized by fabricated punk inspired clothing, neon colors, cartoonish accessories, and suburban kid attitude. Hot Topic was the most important influence to this aesthetic.

Teen punk WAS my life from the ages of like 7-10. I loved cartoons that looked like this, artists who looked like this, I wanted to dress just like this. Even though it is pretty cringe, it's extremely nostalgic for me.

Is Teenpunk this aesthetics' official name? What about Scene, does that fall into Teenpunk? Almost seems too broad to me, but it makes sense since it was a corporate manufacturing of a 'punk' aesthetic.

Scene is definitely pretty similar but it drew more from emo culture than pop punk stuff. By 2009-2012, it was pretty much it's own thing.

ここ日本には確かにこの美学のいくつかがありました。髪に筋のある人をたくさん見たのを覚えています。それらのほとんどは、カウンターカルチャーに真の関心を持たないポーザーでした

A core aspect of this: Shitty lyric videos on youtube made by other teenagers/preteens. Often, the video/description mentions something about not meaning to violate copywrite.

Thanks for crappy teen music from decade ago. When I always see stuff like this I look at the old comments and videos and wonder where these people are now. Sometimes they have videos uploaded too. Somewhere on my pc drive I have a video saved from last high school day from 1998 I believe that I found online. Also have videos of one of the last days at the office of looking glass, but that can be found easily online.

No problem. I basically just went to an old playlist I made on youtube when I was a young teen.
You wouldn't know what story I trailed off. I checked one of the girls in the comment youtube page which got me to this video

Just some teenage girls simping for your standard handsome band kid. Their channel went dark 8 years ago. The dude they are simping for replied in the comments though, going into his channel I found he passed away at the age of 21

From there I stumbled on someone who commented on his video. Turns out she's making cooking videos like 8 years later

I got inspired to do the same thing, click some random profiles see if I could find anything interesting. Here's the highlights:

A challenge to eat an entire can of whipped cream at once:

Middle school should last forever:

Some anti bullying school project video:

I might start doing this more. I quite enjoyed it.

God. I absolutely adore these threads! Keep up the good work OP! I kinda think there should be a geo/neocities that is a grand encyclopedia listing all of the Aesthetics from the 90s to the Y2K era, kinda like the aesthetics you are talking about right now. It would be super useful for research.
