• I added an agora current events board to contain discussions of political and current events to that category. This was due to a increase support for a separate board for political talk.

I do have Autism, and ADHD. Diagnosed when I was a kid at some point, but thanks to therapy I'm in control of myself and can pass myself off as "normal" in public. I'm one who thankfully doesn't need to be medicated. At some point I'll have to look into is how disability checks work in my state since here it's more lenient with how to get one. In theory my Autism can let me get one while also having a job. If I can well that's extra income I can use given the cost of living here, and if it gives me extra I can always commission artists or eat out more often.

This site has some of the most normal people I've met online. It's just normal is no longer normal. People honestly call you autistic for not burying your face in shorts and reels for 8h a day. I feel like it's just a mental copout to not have to cope with society's increasingly ridiculous and anal standards for most people.
I know these are three disparate sentences but I'm too tired to link them together so just pretend this shit was coherent ^

Plus the obligatory out of touch idiocracy shoe in

If you have money, you're just eccentric.
I grew up super conservative so in my community, people didn't get the help they needed. It was seen as a failing on the individual (not praying hard enough or bad parenting). I found my own way (a career that encourages diving down rabbit holes usually) but I do feel bad for the parents that beat themselves up for their perceived failings (my own included).

Most of the benefits and uses of the internet are wasted on those who do not appreciate it and use it as their golden opportunity to be stupid for all to see.
the "be so edgy and special" y2k-2010s era
hipsters, scene, emo and all that

being stupid is just autism, overdone roleplay or not knowing better (and goofyness)

as i said
dont get me started
2000s-2010s internet punk ruined whole generations with expectation of future that got lost in the sweep of consumerist conglomerates
well, if that wasnt the plan from the start- the big lie, of "free, shared, lovable, community-driven, inspiring and fuzzy-feelz, full of mutual understanding and new ideals"... basically, the sweet aftertaste of cyberpunk "pirates", what i call "EU-if-not-freaks"(*)...
(*) the times (were they ever?) when EU wasnt control freak, didnt cared about norms and "dont eat this, look it is F food it is bad, cant explain but it is...", EU that only controlled monetary and steel, coal issues, without any ideology of "smelly" type, no woke, no "progress-thru-dehumanization"... - if you get me :/

As an autist, I feel like sensory overload is just cope for being mentally weak.
I think it's a real thing but a lot of autists (especially aspies) confuse "sensory overload," which is apparently literally painful, with anxiety attacks where they go into fight-or-flight mode and everything becomes super loud/bright/whatever. The confusion is especially unfortunate because anxiety responses can be controlled somewhat whereas autistic sensory overload can not.

I wonder how many schizoids are misdiagnosed as autists and vise versa. They have quite a lot of symptoms in common but it seems to me that an autist is weird by nature and a schizoid is weird by choice.

schizoid is weird by choice
no, that is just "edgy alt kids",
schizzophrenia is diagnosis too; too, wired differently, chemical mix wrong, injury (trauma, either physical or other)...
