TL;DW ChatGPT is targeting lonely men with their new development which is basically the plot of "Her". A bunch of socially inept men interact with a voiced version of ChatGPT which emulates an effervescent american female voice. The voice can do sarcasm, enthusiasm and poisonous positivity. The LLM interprets the live stream and detects the people in it and the background lighting and setting.

Most of the people interacting with the demo repeatedly interrupt the very talky machine.

Before we start: we have some nusers in the forum from the public internet who don't quite understand what LLM(AI) is or how it works. The machine is not "thinking" and it isn't "a person". The short version is that it's picking statistically likely words to say and phrasing them in tones that simulate human voices. The machine always works for ChatGPT, not the users. It is not, cannot, and never will be, your friend.

God that's cringe, they made it sound like a redditors interpretation of an overly happy wife and the guy acting is somehow more stilted then the ai. I don't blame him. it's hard to talk to a thing, you can't lean on basic social cues and the thing is literally programmed to yap as much as possible.

Yep, ever since ChatGPT was a thing people always wanted to make it this "assistant" of theirs for whatever reason. This brings that weird ass fantasy to life where you can have a flirty "female" ai assistant while you... sit at home and trade NFTs or some shit.

people dont just do this. they dont suddenly decide that they want to talk to a bunch of 1s and 0s instead of a human being. something had to have gone horribly wrong during their attempts of socializing with others in order for them to resort to this. its like the people who say how they jerk off to pornography while in a relationship. theyll tell you "oh its normal" or "i just want a fix and cant bother with foreplay" but common sense tells you their sex life must fucking suck if they stick to watching it on a screen instead of doing the real thing. same thing here.

so what went horribly wrong?

• Structure of society: nowadays a person can get by completely on their own-food, shelter, clothing, everything can be gotten from big faceless stores. he is no longer tribal, no longer inter-dependent on any group of people for survival. their work consists of little relying on humans too. everyone wants that feeling of self-sufficiency and independence. well they got it.
• Urban planning: most places just arent well built for the sole purpose of socializing. from the areas of nothing but blocky residental homes and roads to the fact that you need to spend a good chunk of time driving to even get anywhere to socialize. its all fucking inconvenient. REALLY inconvenient. enough to get our natural urges of socializing to say fuck it. thats a lot of inconvenience.
• The Male Problem (Entertainment/Pornography): the hindbrain. the brain stem. basal ganglia. hypothalamus. whatever you want to call it, the part of the brain specifically separate from our rational fore-brain and focused on pure instinct. the one that will get you off your ass and force you to talk of women out of pure urge. thats the failsafe, the one thing thatll get them to go talk to the opposite sex if everything else fucks up. what if you dull it? overload it with the good chemicals and make it feel like its winning? then they dont work and they have to rely on the civilized forebrain to motivate them. sometimes that works. it mostly doesnt.
• The Female Problem (Dating Apps/Social Media): the incel is wrong about many things of women. hypergamy is not one of them. yeah men will pine for the pretty women but ultimately we can settle for one that could be seen as less attractive if shes loyal and loving. anything to pass down the legacy, really. women do not have this. they will sit there and die before comitting to anything less than they deserve; its how theyre wired (bateman's principle). most of them had a decent view of where they stood on the hiearchy and what kind of guy she could reasonably get. nowadays....
• Societal Dysfunction: social status was just easier to attain back then. job market was not as crowded and paper money not as useless, so wealth was gathered easier. the world was not as interconnected because of the net back then so everyone only really cared about their small little communities. if a woman decided to break her vows because she found a better prospect shed be met with nothing but shame and scorn. these things, they did not carry into the future with us

these are only a handful of reasons. some might be valid, some might be bullshit. it might only be one of them, it might be several working in tandem. thats for someone smarter to decide, i just gathered up all the evidence i could remember. and good luck finding someone smart enough; for every one person who asks this kind of question there will be dozens of silicon valley ghouls shilling their product or people whose programming kicks in and go "men problem? men wrong. men bad."

AI is watching a store CCTV for crimes. It sees a guy with long hair shoplift, a woman is also at the counter. It hallucinates, calls the cops and tells them in its convincing voice to look out for a female. Woman who was just buying something gets arrested. AI system doesn't get questioned (this already happens with normal computers, compare with the Horizon IT scandal)

The more convincing sounding the "voice" is, the less people will think to question whether the ghost in the machine is fucking retarded.

Like yeah sure, a bunch of coomers are going to form weird parasocial relationships with this, but I think it has the potential to be much more damaging to society as a whole, the above is just one example I can think of.

The past several years have all been leading up to this. People have gotten used to dating on their phones, chatting on their phones, doing everything online. This is just the next in the process to isolate everyone. We already see a decrease in the amount of people who are in general kind and respectful, and divisions just increase. This is because people are more atomized, less linked together. All talking with a disembodied person in their phone. This is just the next step of that, with people now being even more divided because they're kept isolated by not even talking to a real human.

Jokes aside, it's horrifying to watch someone try to date an AI. But it's not something new. People have been dating and marrying inanimate objects for a long time; this is pretty much just exposing the idea to mainstream minds.

People have been thinking about things like that since before chatgpt, hence the film Her. For some reason thought the technology to do that already existed since before chatGPT, I have no idea why I assumed that.

It's exactly like how chatGPT talks to you like a Redditor, a lot people accept it because they've been trained the same way the bot has. Users let the different sites' voting systems train them to behave in accepted manners, which leads to an homogeneisation of thought.
This language model was trained the same way, that's why it comes off as a passive agressive normie who bases their identity on the latest big netflix series. The more we humanise the machine the more we mechanise men.

A bot can not engage in the esoteric, because they lack the soul humans have. It can not connect to God, it can not connect to the soul of the world. Same way it can not do true art, all it can do is mimick. A shadow of a shadow of a shadow.

Some excellent thoughts in this thread, specifically the reading by @LiraTirsoCaduceo. I thought "Her" was a great example until it wasn't. The film implied independent, thinking AI which didn't work to manipulate users into what it wants or to exploit them on behalf of the companies they are made for - they just outgrew their partners. In a lot of ways "Her" is a film about being left behind, not being strapped into the coom chair.

I think the worst thing about @llillilll 's article is the implication that gang rape in a jail may somehow be justice if only they had got the right person. I hope the $10m suing goes ahead and it closes down that particular venture for face matching data sharing.

When someone doxes someone online they can now instead of death threating them, drive them slowly insane by puppeting their friends and family and making them question reality.

The more I think about it, the more I think "coomer jacks off to puppet girlfriend" is actually just really close to how porn works already for a lot of these people and is probably going to be the least notable change.

This scam already exists and the voice is usually something generic. This is by design - they want idiots to respond. It's something like "grandma, I've had to borrow someone's phone - I'm stuck and I'm in a lot of trouble. I need 12,088 pesos."

The worst one I've heard is where they say "we've got your son from daycare. Send us money" and then a baby starts crying in the background. Then they hang up.

Generally speaking, scams go one of two ways: either it's so vague it could apply to anyone and just needs to trigger panic, or it's so retarded that only an idiot would fall for it.
