• I added an agora current events board to contain discussions of political and current events to that category. This was due to a increase support for a separate board for political talk.

I was (and am) this person, and it's really hard to break out of. You get all these strong feelings and emotions which seem justifiable as if you came up with the idea, but really it's just some big group think that has leeched into your brain. Once you sit and rifle through your actual values and opinions and realise that they don't align with how you actually feel you can slowly and gradually remove the thorns.

I still fall prey to this.
I think being influenced by the people around you is normal and healthy. Maybe it's when "influence" starts to shift into "control" that a problem arises. "Thinking for yourself" and "sharing an opinion with the consensus" can be compatible. The odds of sharing every opinion with the internet naturally is incredibly low though. If you can have a conversation with someone about something you've never seen online, then I think you're doing fine.

I'm also probably not much better. Don't want to give off the impression that I'm not affected by "internet consensus" at all.

I agree with this point of view. It all comes down to what you agree with or not.

Exactly - and frankly it's not even uncommon. I've met too many people in life who think they're right because they're different than the consensus. Sometimes that just means you're dumb, sorry.

Arty wankers have always been like this, the only thing that's changed was the "this" - case in point, art people were still insufferable motherfuckers when I was at uni like a decade ago
egoism, but leftist - "why is world like this", "why we HURT ourselves this way", "we should change society somehow", you heard those

I think art school students have always been intolerable.
There was only a single man who could've been a cool art student, he was a German

I think this was an interesting read but falls into a bias of personal experience. There have always been competitive players - see Bartle's player types as a very rough outline. Unfortunately competitive players will often drive out the """weaker""" players if not properly balanced.

Boomers and other toxic masculinity culture comes from a long history, and if anything being able to deal with emotions properly is an under culture which has only been able to come to light in recent years and people crave it. However, they bring their own toxicity to whatever they touch in their effort to absorb it.

There are places for these balanced and non-aggressive men. The real problem your hobbies are suffering from is popularity.

The only adjustment I'd make to the above graphic is that it's usually the beta males who orbit the women who join the hobby and treat it like a dating service.

also, have you seen the one (comics) about Glowies planting-in schizo ideas to groups? (similar to yours, in sense)?

I thought this Twitter thread by @_burntlime_ was really interesting. I'll transcribe it here so you don't need to go through to Twitter.

TL;DR sjw internet has escaped containment within a school.

seems like the place known for egotistical manchildren has only further declined quite funny to hear that a place which you would think of as a place of harmony and expression is under the total rule of algorithmically curated chaos and preprogramed opinions these people will go on to make media and art that is critisized in the exact same manner because they can only react by seeing what theyve been told is wrong with the thing infront of them and so their art will reflect it but you can take the chance to mock them within your own art see how they react to show them who the real artist is the stronger the emotion you can extract from the crowd the better

to be frank, a lot of the students here (especially the younger ones) are TERMINALLY online.
>Art School

This should be no surprise considering 99% of the populace grew up with the exact worst influences you would want your child to have. It's not a surprise they would grow up to be this way and either go broke or end up in the highest echelons of the industry (that's if they bang/cheat their way to the top)

Good for you for realizing this and breaking out of that cult. This happened to me to a while back with >redditcostanzayeahrightsmirk but I realized just how hypocritical and stupid everyone was and to stay away from most modern fandoms/"nerd" culture.

Man, I know this is off topic, but I never really got fandoms. It seems like they spend more time talking about the community than they do actually talking about the source material. I have a lot of traditionally "nerdy" hobbies, but I've never really gotten into the community aspect or "nerd culture". You need to be able to enjoy things without making it your entire personality.

Honestly, I have a lot of thoughts on the topic of fandom culture. Maybe that should be it's own thread though, because it's definitely off-topic here.

You literally wrote this on a vaporwave forum where we do nothing but in-fight and talk about capitalism.

Eventually you run out of things you can say about the Simpsons or My Little Fursex. You've got to find something to make it entertaining: like simpsons shitposting remix memes or which of the Brony community were arrested for molestation in the past hour.

Ping me in the topic when you make it.

I always think about this MGS2 quote when I hear someone say something thinking its such an original thought:
Raiden : I'll decide for myself what to believe and what to pass on!
Colonel : But is that even your own idea?
Rose : Or something Snake told you?

You know, sometimes I forget this place is about vaporwave. I thought it was the "Dead Internet Theory forums"
