One of the most consistent forms of internet media in the last fifteen or so years is the so-called "YouTube Poop," videos comprising of heavily (often crudely) edited sequences from movies, television, or videogames that make frequent use of sentence mixing, repetition, and crude video effects in order to create a hyperderivative piece of content that delivers a new, typically humorous take on another piece of media.

The first ever YTP is generally considered to be "I'D SAY HE'S HOT ON OUR TAIL," created by SuperYoshi with Windows Movie Maker and posted to SheezyArt in December of 2004, originally titled "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 REMIXED!!!". It would be reposted to YouTube about two years later, in November of 2006.

I can't find a solid source for when the term "YouTube Poop" was originally coined, but the earliest entry for it in Urban Dictionary is February 1st, 2007, just a few months after "I'D SAY HE'S HOT ON OUR TAIL" first appeared on YouTube.

Anyway, here are just a few of my favorites from over the years.

This is one of the earliest videos I remember seeing on YouTube, and YTPs were the first YouTube videos I saw in general. I have a major nostalgia soft spot for them.

Towards the later lifespan of YTP some video makers ventured into legitimate artistic territory with the genre, linkondrugs especially. linkondrugs and awfulfawful were making videos unlike anything I had ever seen before, their methods of masking in and seamlessly blending other sources into their videos always impressed me. I really wish they were still active, linkondrugs especially was such a creative inspiration for me.

I used to be involved with the YTP community before it disbanded, I remember when awfulfawful subscribed to my account and being pretty stoked when that happened (then I got copyright struck and deleted, rip) Had an account on the YouChew forums too if anyone is familiar with that shit hole (their jannies and collective circle jerk can suck my cock.) I was surprised to see a few other former YouChew members on Agora, although they don't appear to be really active.

Unfortunately it seems like YTP is kind of dead these days. We're far removed from the days where you'd randomly get recommended YTPs in the sidebar too. Are people too afraid to touch and remix copyrighted material on YouTube or something? Or am I just not looking hard enough?

Anyhow, here's a few of my favorites

I just found out there's a YTP thread, so this is great for me. Anyways, I want to say that YTP is still currently going, but not as great as it used to be. While there are a handful of current YTPers worth watching such as the ones in my favorites playlist and my underrated YTPers playlist, there are also a lot of YTPers that aren't. Currently, the new style for a lot of these YTPers is quoting reference for humor, which has been a while since a few years ago both influenced from Schaffrillas and CamHead. Once you've seen one of those YTPs, or those recent YTP collabs, you've seen them all. However, the kind of humor isn't automatically bad though, because there are a few YTPers who do these well by being unique or thinking outside the box. My current thoughts on YTP today is that there hasn't been that much creativity than it used to be as if it's becoming a circle jerk. I'd love to see YTP to be like experimental/indie film and animation by uploading videos outside of YouTube, getting influence outside of YTP, stuff like that. Plus, there would be less reasons for YTPers to retire and delete or private their videos. But I feel like it's too ambitious or nearly impossible. Maybe it could work long-term, but I do not know if it'll result in the idea coming into fruition or being dead on arrival.
